@@Rat_Bagel that's not bigotry, he used his options, killing a race that'll kill your race or do nothing about it. A race which can be manipulated so easily and have the ability to use powers from within themselves would be considered as weapons as well. He had to destroy the weaponry which could be manipulating in destroying his race if not some other innocent one. Colonization didn't start by people caring all the time ad well, for now they don't care, they're primitive, every living being will get to the stage where they would like to expand their land and empire in search of land and resources and what better place to find this by colonizing different universes. Well first, they weren't even kind to him as Philip lol next its not about being kind, its looking into 100 years from now to the future where you won't be alive and new generation is created you can't stop them from being manipulated, especially since in a magical world there is a massive hierarchical system of whose the most powerful who becomes the leader. Yes, that's the issue, when he was below people worshiped him blindly, similar situation would happen with future leader, these witches are very gullible anyways I'm sure bells was laughing his ass off looking at them.
This is so cool! I adore this. The way you matched so many lyrics to the perfect scenes is just amazing. I could go on forever about that, but I *love* 0:32 - especially how he closes his fist as it finishes. Even better is "I am the devil that you forgot," whilst showing his confrontation with Luz. That is unbelievably clever and I cannot help but think of this song as being perfect for Wittebane. One of my favourite TOH edits for my favourite character. Thank you! Thank you for the kind words! And yes those two lyrics, "I am the righteous hand of God/ And I am the Devil you forgot" is what prompted me to sit down and immediately make the AMV cause it was so unbelievably perfect for Belos.
God this song fits so well with Bellos. He's very obviously from Puritan culture, what with his very blatant hatred of witches and the boiling isles in general. Couple that with the fact that is very much implied that his brother fell in love with a witch, his hatred just grew from there. He probably, somewhere, deep down in his heart, genuinely believes that he is the hand of god, bringing down, what he believes, is righteous punishment upon the inhabitants of the isles. This song really just encapsulates that sort of maniacal feeling that Bellos radiates in all those scenes when he's addressing the citizens of bonesburrow. They really do think that he's doing his best to bring peace and prosperity to their home and when it turns out that he betrayed them all, you can see in the coven heads eyes, the citizens and guards who run screaming when the eclipse reaches it's peak and the people who fight so hard to stop him. What I'm saying is that this deserves way more likes than it has gotten and you deserve a round of applause for the lovely choice of song and clips for bringing this masterpiece together.
This kind of hypocrisy that Belos displays is precisely why I chose the song since it encapsulates it perfectly. To himself he is the righteous bringing the "savages" of the isles to their well-deserved doom but all he really is, is just a devil. A man who has committed so many crimes and sins, yet he acknowledges none of them and feels no guilt. Not even for killing his own brother.
This is near perfect. Wow, it all fits so well. Also, can i admit the fact that i love everything about Belos, such an awesome villian. And whats truly scary about him, is that, he is only human.
I love this edit sm! As a huge history nerd/buff, the lyric 'I am the righteous hand of god' is so 1600/1700s. Europeans thoughts it was their destiny by God to take over the Americas. They thought God was telling them to 'cleanse' the Americas of their lands by any means necessary. Which included killing many Native Americans, wiping them from their lands, and hanging women who they thought were witches.
The Owl House is such a great show because if Luz never found the book that was written by Belos (I.E. Philip) she never would have gone searching for him which means she never would have revealed she was from the future and he would never have become Belos.
