Danke für Dich, gefällt mir, das Du langsamm, ruhig erzählst alles, obwohl ich verstehe nicht . . . aber nach Dein Handbewegung weis was Du vorhast, was Du machen wills---guuuut :)))
Hey burner.....your vids are helping me a lot on my 01 base box. I appreciate the time and effort u took to make the vids....I am currently replacing the starter and the AOS.........So far throttle body removed...will attack starter tomorrow......burn one for me!
I changed my AOS recently and it was the first time I have seen a Boxster engine. I have noticed that on your engine the driver side sleeve on the resonance tube has a vacuum line attached. I believe this runs to the fuel pressure regulator? I believe whoever was in the engine bay last took these off and replaced them in the wrong order as the sleeve with the hole" for the vacuum tube was on the passenger side of the pleneum ! I plugged it off as I had had the CEL light coming on and guessed this was causing a leak. I must go back in and see if i can find a stray vacuum line on that side of the engine bay. possibly this explains why I still get the CEL on and can only manage 27 mpg (British)! Great vids,,, keep posting!
Ah, excellent observation! I bet you're right. The two sleeves are basically identical and the vacuum line is a small black tube, so it would be easy to switch them and lose the vacuum line. Cheers!
Hey great I'm constantly learning from your videos. Replaced the alternator and belt reccentliy. Great to have the oppourtunity,NOT to go to the off. dealer ship and spend the big money hahah:-) Thanks.
Hi There Great videos, really enjoying what you have done so far to your 986... In this video you mention the durametric lead your wife bought, can you please do a video on the diagnostic package and how to use it please... kind regards james glasgow scotland
Thanks! I didn't consider replacing both sensors because it seems they don't usually go bad. In fact, I suspect the old one might just need a good cleaning on its contact surface. I think I'll throw it in my spare parts bin and try it if I ever have this problem again. I'll update you on how the engine runs after I've driven it a bit. I recorded some data with the Durametric before replacing the sensor. I hope to be able to compare before/ after to get some good data about how it affects the engine and ignition timing!
Burner's Cars great video. I had the same fault on my 911, tried a reset but came straight back on. Ended up in a local specialist who found a rats nest in the engine bay, he had to drop out engine and rewire the main loom , £1600 later and alls good except my wallet
Thank you, sir! I don't know if you saw my other video on this, but it turns out we had the same problem. Those wires are a pain to get to on my Boxster, and it sounds even worse on the 911!
Great video. Were there any actual symptoms with the error? I am always perplexed as to which fuel is best for the 986 boxster (I have a 2.7). As it will take both with no apparent problem or loss of power, is it purely an economic decision?? Cheers from the UK.
perfect thanks burner !!!! been following your videos. burner where will i find the axle position sensor front and rear coz i saw it in my durametric. please help so i can replace it .
How comfortable are you with working on your car? I would definitely budget and plan for some big repairs. That said, if you're comfortable doing the work and have the budget, you could replace the motor when it dies with a good used low-mileage engine and still come out ahead.
Burner's Cars I've been looking for a boxster for a couple months and I've been very picky on the ones I've looked at. I planned to buy the car and go straight to my dads shop for him to look at it and see if there's anything to fix, so I would I'm pretty comfortable. how long do boxster engines usually last?
That's good. I don't really know how long these engines last, but I don't see many over 200k. I feel like you might want to be prepared to swap out the engine sooner rather than later.
Another very informative video! I've got a question, kind of off centre...... you always work on your Boxster with your watch on, which surprises me. It's kind of a given OH&S procedure to remove all jewellery from your hands working on mechanical stuff. People have actually had fingers ripped off by a ring getting caught in machinery. I know, there's no risk of that happening with you working on your Boxster because everything's off when you do. But what really surprises me (and I obsessively look every video, LoL) is that your wonderful, shiny digital watch face doesn't seem to have one scratch on it! If it was me, I would have totally scratched it badly by now...... I guess you're careful and I'm not. Anyway, it's trivial but it fascinates me. Appreciate all the time and trouble you go to producing your 'how to' vids.
Haha! Yeah, I'm definitely more careful around moving machinery, but I really should remember to remove everything from my hands before starting. Cheers!
Haha, yeah, I know. I do try to pronounce Porsha for the purists, but it's so commonly shortened to Porsh in the US that I fall into that easily! I'll have to redouble my efforts.
It's cool, so many people do it. I do enjoy your videos though. I do all my Boxster S maintenance myself also. Getting ready to put on a new Borla muffler and was wondering which nuts are welded to the flange. Got my Boxster back in Feb 2013 and have loved this car every day, just a joy to drive. Working on it is a different story though lol. Put in the Larger 987 Air Box, Larger 911 Throttle Body and T Plenum and really pepped her up. Getting some headers also, so that should help her breath better along with the Borla muffler, plus Secondary Cat Delete pipes.
Thanks! Yeah, it's an easy habit to fall into. You're doing some awesome work on your Boxster S! All mods I've been considering myself. I'd love to see some pics of your exhaust / intake system (I created a fb page for this sort of thing: facebook.com/Burnerscars) As for the exhaust, there are 3 nuts and bolts on each flange. Only the top nut is welded on. cheers!
Just checked your FB page, yeah I'll post up some picks of my stuff. I also put in some GTP Turismo Series Headlights that are the bomb, really freshens up the look. Also did the 4 stalk steering column mod and turned on the extra features for the gauge cluster. Bought the 911 gauge cluster, but have not gotten that installed yet, have to change out the oil sending unit and run a wire from it to the gauge cluster.
You maintain your car in style man, wearing a nice jacket, ring and a watch!. I put on my worst fit when wrenching around,

Very cool vid. Will be looking forward to the Durametric vids!
Thanks! The Durametric software is really fun and powerful! I'll be putting something together soon!

Awesome! Love hearing that others are saving money with these vids, too!
Hi There
Great videos, really enjoying what you have done so far to your 986... In this video you mention the durametric lead your wife bought, can you please do a video on the diagnostic package and how to use it please... kind regards
james glasgow scotland
Thanks, James! I've been thinking that should be the next video. I'll have the video live... let's say within a week. (Got to give myself deadlines!)
What size is the ranch socket did you use for the removable of the knock sensor
Hi Ben,Great videos. What codes were you getting that pointed you to the knock sensor? Thanks,Mike
Great video...did you consider replacing both sensors and did you experience a smoother running engine afterwards....?
Thanks! I didn't consider replacing both sensors because it seems they don't usually go bad. In fact, I suspect the old one might just need a good cleaning on its contact surface. Awesome video! It's also a good time to clean the throttle body since it's off :)
Thanks! Excellent point!

burner where will i find the axle position sensor front and rear coz i saw it in my durametric.
please help so i can replace it .
Awesome! Yeah, I believe the axle position sensors are for the self-leveling litrontic headlights. They're located on the lower suspension arm.
what's your thought on an 01 boxster with over 200k mileage going for $3.9k?
How comfortable are you with working on your car? I would definitely budget and plan for some big repairs. That said, if you're comfortable doing the work and have the budget, you could replace the motor when it dies with a good used low-mileage engine and still come out ahead.

I've wondered why he doesn't remove the watch too. Seems like a pretty nice watch to be wearing while wrenching on a car.
Durametric please!
Coming soon! It's great software. I'm impressed with my initial impressions. It's already diagnosed one problem not picked up by other cables!
Bank one is passenger side bank two is driver side…
Dig your vids, but one thing keeps nagging at me. Porsche is pronounced like Porsha, not Porsh.
Haha, yeah, I know. I do try to pronounce Porsha for the purists, but it's so commonly shortened to Porsh in the US that I fall into that easily! I'll have to redouble my efforts.
