An American Idol wildcard. Is being compared to Clay Aiken a bad thing?

- Clay started as a geeky looking kid that made you think "where's that voice coming from?"Every once in a while, a contestant would get compared to him. Every once in a while, there's someone who doesn't finish first who gets compared to Clay Aiken. Some haven't watched Idol from the beginning, so here's an Introduction to Clay Aiken. With each show, Clay proved the American public was right in choosing him as the viewer's choice for a wildcard. (In season 1, the judges did the wild card choosing, then starting in season 2, they each chose a wild card and let the public choose one). In season 3, Jennifer Hudson was a wildcard. Will season 8 keep the luck flowing to the wildcard slot? I hope so! Good luck to this year's wildcard contestants!

His voice is clear, beautiful and pristine. Never ever had a pitch problem. Clay is one of a kind.

As many others have already said, Clay Aiken was definitely the best thing that ever happened on AI. And to top it off, he gives so much back to the community! And his voice...perfection. That's the only word I can think of to describe it. AI will NEVER find another voice like Clay's. I can't wait for his new CD to come out and for him to tour again!

try as they may, they just have not been able to have a better season of AI than this one, it was, is and seemingly will always be the best season of American Idol, hands down. I so enjoyed watching the transformation of Clay & through it all, he handled it all with grace & maturity, never failing to give an outstanding performance

I miss him. He is spectacular.
I know this is an 'old' video; but....Clay really did win AI2. Most, by now, know what happened with the measly one phone line that was afforded Clay (and Ruben). Even Ruben HAS to realize what happened that night. 2 producers even admitted Clay received 80 percent of the vote 'every single week he was on." No one really did have a chance against Clay. Ruben won by default and Clay has proven he was the true winner 'A Thousand Different Ways'!!!
I just love Clay Aiken, you know Simon can put people's voice down or whatever but when you put a person's looks down and actually say they are ugly that's just going way to far.
He put him down through except at close to the end when Simon said that they kind of made him handsome. Well they didn't make him look better it was there the whole time. The jokes on you Simon he made it bigger than anyone else ever thats what I think anyway. Just had to rant

What an awesome Montage. Clay was so darn good from the very beginning of American Idol. That Solitaire part was done to perfection. When he sang Everything I Don't Need...well, that is just all kinds of HAWT...just like the man.

OMG.. thank you so much. I have been so busy with REAL LIFE... I NEEDED THIS.. I miss him so much, BEAUTIFUL job! Such wonderful memories of waiting each week to hear him sing... how he BLEW IT OUT OF THE BALLPARK each time! How simpler those days were! I miss them!

To be compared to Clay, is a true compliment, because he is as good as it gets. He has set the standard for the pinacle of perfection on Idol, and it hasn't been breached yet.

True, Clay doesn't/didn't need the AI title!! A lot in store for Clay this year, too! A PBS Special!!!! A tour!!!! A new cd!!!! Of course Ruben know what happened that night. I bet he was in shock when his name was called!! I don't think the phone line fiasco was 'shady'. I don't think the producers knew that there was going to be a problem. But..that's why starting the very next year, and every year since, more phone lines and time to vote was added to each show!!!

He is my drug of choice. I get so high on his voice, and that smile, and his whole magical persona. "Perfection takes time Honey". A Clay quote that fits him to a tee.

Clay Aiken, simply the best.
AI judges need to return to refresh their memory -- they evidently have forgotten how good he really was! No one else has ever had the quality, tone, pitch, sound, nuance, glory notes, and the way with a song as does Clay. He had wonderful stage presence even in 2003 and has matured and only gotten better -- check out Everything I Don't Need at the end of this montage. I love the way you did the Solitaire sequence -- my favorite. We are "Right Here Waiting", Clay! Great montage! Thank you.
AI has still not had a performer with a voice as good as Clay's. He's even better in concert!
Clays talent is remarkable beyond belive
and he is one of the best to come out of american idol... He will be remember as the best runner up on the show...
After finishing Spamalot on Broadway, Clay is taking time off to be with his new son. Hopefully, he will tour this year.

Clay was on season 2 in 2003
The WildCard show was cooked up just to get Clay BACK on the show. Methinks the producers had to choke on their coffees when the 3 judges sent Clay packing instead of Ruben and/or Kim!! They had to come up with a way to get him back on and they knew the public loved Clay..and they were right; Clay received 80 percent of the vote EVERY WEEK HE WAS ON. There never was a 'competition' during AI2.

Did you miss the "damn good singer though" part? Therefor i did have something good to say & I said it. The flaming part is simply an observation, he is gay after all, as lame as u think it may be. I love Clay regardless & I think you urself must not like being called flaming which is why you got so defensive.
japitt1019 well I guess I'm not as observant as you are because frankly, I would have never known. Either way, it made no difference to me. American Idol wasn't about your sexuality it was about your talent and he was without a doubt the most talented of that season. The only person to me that ever came close that I personally saw the season where he competed was Adam Lambert. We all have a right to our own opinion. I think it's sad that you would condemn someone else and go so far as to insinuate something about them personally simply because they were protecting someone they care very much about. Your comment was insulting not only to Clay Aiken but to the person your second comment was meant for. That's what's wrong with our country .... if someone is a different people like you still have s need to bring it up in an insulting way. If you had a negative comment to make about his voice you would have had a right to do that. But you're bringing up something that was meant as a negative comment about him personally and that was just not necessary. I have no idea how old you are but I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt because your comment sounds as though you're well into adulthood, however its contents promotes bullying. If for no other reason we have no idea who reads these comments and to those who are younger that may be reading them it only makes the bullying situation validated in their minds. For that reason, it's uncalled for.
