Glad you got to see some of the Bodrum peninsular as it is truly beautiful. The first time we went in 2009 we fell in love with the area and it's lovely people and have been going back twice a year ever since!! Our Turkish friends sent us videos of the forest fires and they were just awful/scary to watch and to see the devastation caused. The season is from April to October so that is why it is so quiet at this time of the year but nice for you to have the places to yourselves. Keep safe guys and thanks for the video. Deana x
I can see why Deana! The landscapes here are so beautiful - all the forests and mountains. Then the beaches 😍 Wish we could experience it in some warmer weather, but like you say, being here off-season means we have the place to ourselves 💕 xx
Really needed to see this today,, the tree has reminded me that no matter how broken, torn apart and burnt out you may feel now you can still grow into something beautiful and to never give up without a fight and i certainly am going to channel my inner tree and try my best to not give up......

More years ago than I care to remember, I once saw a doco on the Bodrum peninsula in Classical antiquity and how magnificent it was. It's lovely to see that this hasnt changed! Thanks for sharing yet another wonderful vlog with us, you do a superb job!! x

Seeing the burnt up hills and trees brought back memories of the fire we had by us a few years ago, it was devastating to watch. Luckily things here have turned green again and and some of the residents have rebuilt their homes. Hopefully those areas in Turkey will see a wonderful rebirth of life like that tree with the one living branch. I so enjoyed viewing your hikes and swims today, nothing like getting out in nature and taking in the fun times our surroundings can offer us. Okay... bye River, bye Scout, bye Ben and bye Chesca. We were watching this with great interest as we know Bodrum well. Then you stopped at the very water point we used to use when we had a house in Yalikavak! We lived less than 100 m from there! Really interesting, you're giving me lots of idea for a Turkey trip. I do a lot of running including marathons, but I'm always amazed when I meet trail runners, they must have really strong ankles as running on uneven surfaces just seems like rolled ankle city!

I think it's super interesting how when you're on the beach it looks like summer, but also like fall/winter. I've never been to a "summer vacation place" off season, so it's quite difficult for me to comprehend this concept honestly. 😂 I really appreciate funny moments like the wet suit one in the weekly vlogs, you can really see how great your dynamic is! The sea is such a deceptive colour! You'd think it was the Caribbean or something, but it's snowing in the hills and you can see your breath in the air 😆 Bonus of travelling in winter is that when the sun does come out, you have the place to yourself. Sending you lots of love xx 🐾

It's one of the downsides to travelling through winter 😢 Gives us an idea of places we want to re-visit in warmer weather though! I think Gümüşlük would be so beautiful in the spring or summer 🌞🌸

Thank you for bringing back some happy memories of this place.Pity you didn't get to walk across the causeway to Rabbit island.Some nice views from there, especially "the King's road" the remains of the city wall. You can still see the mosaics in the water. And the island of Kos can also be seen from there.

We went to Bodrum 30 years ago and it was so busy that we escaped to a tiny fishing village next door called Gulluk. It's probably another busy resort by now😟. I used to use Salomon Speedcross trail shoes, very comfortable. Have fun this week 🙂

I laughed out loud at the struggle to get the wetsuit off! And then straight into the wildfire section - roller-coaster of emotions. Took hope in that totally messed-up tree you passed on the earlier run which was already sprouting new branches - it'll take a while, but things will recover.
Yeah... it was a bit of a rollercoaster! The tree was really powerful to see, especially not expecting to see it just sitting there behind a wall. A beautiful symbol 🌱

Never been to Turkey but love to go. I'm off to Romania by motorbike in June and looking forward to the freedom. My Campervan is in the workshop with a busted water pump and oil cooler at the moment. I thought it was the head gasket which would have been worse so its a positive. Love your videos and very jealous of your travels. It has inspired me to give it a go though. The Hamam looked great fun!

@@OverlandingSophia we did Finland in 2019 by motorbike. Awesome trip. Best food ever on the Ferry from Stockholm to Turku, really good vegan food too. I love my meat but wanted to try the vegan stuff as a friend we were traveling with is vegan. Scandinavia is sooo friendly. Safe travels, been having a lazy Sunday morning watching your videos in bed! Ben needs to man up in cold water! 🤣

It was such a powerful thing to see, we couldn't stop thinking about it for ages 🌱 It would make a great sculpture/statue I think. Of course being in the States you'll have more than your fair share of wildfires. We'd never seen destruction like it xx

Do you mean the first or the last beach we stayed at? Both were beautiful! The last one has a cafe that we saw but it's all closed up right now. We've fallen in love with the west coast! 💕

well for trails GB is the paradise on earth...my granduncle was in GB with the ducato motorhome in the 90ties and there is always a trail roujd the corner..there is also the " wandering where" YT channel who shows many trails and the app for GB;) happy days! very nice film!!

I should say correct itinerary is Antalya, Mersin or Adana (Mediterranean) for winter this cities arround 20 c for Spring Bodrum, Marmaris, İzmir, Ayvalık, Canakkale (Aegean ), On the summer Rize, Trabzon, Artvin, Amasra (Black Sea)

Heading into my neck of the woods now... Altinkum /Didim. Datca peninsula is amazing, so sad to see the damage from recent wild fires. Datca is a quant, pretty town but very different in the summer. Gumusluk is one of my favourite places, this is where everybody goes for fish... again summer time is buzzing and eating fish at the waters edge is amazing. Those pretty houses won't be abandoned, they are owned by Turks who will soon be back once season opens again. Actually, that white house has beautiful antique furniture when owners are there... Keep enjoying 😍🇹🇷 The little island just offshore is Rabbit Island which can be walked to at low waters 🐰🐰
It must feel like a different place entirely when the weather warms up. One of the downsides of travelling during winter is seeing all these places empty and closed up. We were saying over lunch, how beautiful it must be to sit there on a summers evening. The atmosphere must be magical! ✨ 🌅

Thanks Richie! A few weeks ago we extended our visa to a tourist residency visa which allows us to stay for longer than 3 months. We did this so we could get Scout's rabies jabs etc, but it's a bit of a faff to do if you're just visiting. The Turkish food has been a highlight of our trip! 😍

Try to make a stop at the "Bafa Lake" its also on the way from Bodrum to Izmir and Natural Reserve place and great fro Camping ;) Wooow the drone shoots look like you are in the Caribbean ;))))
@@OverlandingSophia When you drive to Lake Bafa you can make a Stop 5-10 Minutes after MILAS at the Ancient City of "EUROMOS" its directly on the Highway ...there is a a great ZEUS TEMPLE and behind the Hill is the ancient Theater...you will love it ;)

In part of your show, it looked like Chesca was skinning a seal lol. In Alaska real natives are allowed to hunt them and it is needed for the fat that they spread on other food (game) like salt is but in this case is for the low-fat content of wild game. Fun Show again. :)

It's been a dream of mine to walk the Lycian way for a long time! Unfortunately, our time in the south was interrupted by huge storms. But one day we will definitely come back to walk some of it 😊

Last year was such a disaster for the Mediterranean region I hope we never see fires like that again

Really interesting, you're giving me lots of idea for a Turkey trip. I do a lot of running including marathons, but I'm always amazed when I meet trail runners, they must have really strong ankles as running on uneven surfaces just seems like rolled ankle city!

I think it's super interesting how when you're on the beach it looks like summer, but also like fall/winter. I've never been to a "summer vacation place" off season, so it's quite difficult for me to comprehend this concept honestly. 😂

The sea is such a deceptive colour! You'd think it was the Caribbean or something, but it's snowing in the hills and you can see your breath in the air 😆 Bonus of travelling in winter is that when the sun does come out, you have the place to yourself. Sending you lots of love xx 🐾

It's one of the downsides to travelling through winter 😢 Gives us an idea of places we want to re-visit in warmer weather though! I think Gümüşlük would be so beautiful in the spring or summer 🌞🌸

Thanks for sharing some new treasurered places near Bodrum. Magnificent photography! We went to Bodrum 30 years ago and it was so busy that we escaped to a tiny fishing village next door called Gulluk. It's probably another busy resort by now😟.

I laughed out loud at the struggle to get the wetsuit off! And then straight into the wildfire section - roller-coaster of emotions. Took hope in that totally messed-up tree you passed on the earlier run which was already sprouting new branches - it'll take a while, but things will recover.
Yeah... it was a bit of a rollercoaster! The tree was really powerful to see, especially not expecting to see it just sitting there behind a wall. A beautiful symbol 🌱

Never been to Turkey but love to go. I'm off to Romania by motorbike in June and looking forward to the freedom. My Campervan is in the workshop with a busted water pump and oil cooler at the moment. I thought it was the head gasket which would have been worse so its a positive. Love your videos and very jealous of your travels. It has inspired me to give it a go though. The Hamam looked great fun!

@@OverlandingSophia we did Finland in 2019 by motorbike. Awesome trip. Best food ever on the Ferry from Stockholm to Turku, really good vegan food too. I love my meat but wanted to try the vegan stuff as a friend we were traveling with is vegan. Scandinavia is sooo friendly. Safe travels, been having a lazy Sunday morning watching your videos in bed! Ben needs to man up in cold water! 🤣

It was such a powerful thing to see, we couldn't stop thinking about it for ages 🌱 It would make a great sculpture/statue I think. Of course being in the States you'll have more than your fair share of wildfires. We'd never seen destruction like it xx

There were plans to build a hotel overlooking the beach but there was a lot of resistance, so fingers crossed it won't be allowed x

well for trails GB is the paradise on earth...my granduncle was in GB with the ducato motorhome in the 90ties and there is always a trail roujd the corner..there is also the " wandering where" YT channel who shows many trails and the app for GB;) happy days! very nice film!!

Heading into my neck of the woods now... Altinkum /Didim. Datca peninsula is amazing, so sad to see the damage from recent wild fires. Datca is a quant, pretty town but very different in the summer. Gumusluk is one of my favourite places, this is where everybody goes for fish... again summer time is buzzing and eating fish at the waters edge is amazing. Those pretty houses won't be abandoned, they are owned by Turks who will soon be back once season opens again. Actually, that white house has beautiful antique furniture when owners are there... Keep enjoying 😍🇹🇷 The little island just offshore is Rabbit Island which can be walked to at low waters 🐰🐰
It must feel like a different place entirely when the weather warms up. One of the downsides of travelling during winter is seeing all these places empty and closed up. We were saying over lunch, how beautiful it must be to sit there on a summers evening. The atmosphere must be magical! ✨ 🌅

Thanks Richie! A few weeks ago we extended our visa to a tourist residency visa which allows us to stay for longer than 3 months. We did this so we could get Scout's rabies jabs etc, but it's a bit of a faff to do if you're just visiting. The Turkish food has been a highlight of our trip! 😍

In part of your show, it looked like Chesca was skinning a seal lol. In Alaska real natives are allowed to hunt them and it is needed for the fat that they spread on other food (game) like salt is but in this case is for the low-fat content of wild game. Fun Show again. :)
