Why would a theme park that is specifically designed for children have their characters wear costumes that make it hard to see the very people (children) that they are supposed to be interacting with? The videos seem to show that the problem is at the very least, intermittent. My sister was greeted by a character at a theme park when she was 12, made her day. My heart goes out the these little children who got overlooked. They will remember the disappointment they felt that day.
Because the way mascot costumes are designed they all pretty much have low visibility. Making the visibility higher would requiere you cutting out eye holes which defeats the purpose of looking like the character.
Because they see thousands of kids and they don’t have the time or the paycheck to meet with everyone. Also people assume the race of the people in the costume. It is just wild. If you really want to meet with a character then you need to pay or be incredibly lucky. That is how it goes and as a kid who went to Disney no less than 4 times a year as a kid. Same with the countless parades I went to. They will ignore you no matter what you look like and you have to almost expect it. Kids need to learn that the world does not revolve around them and some people never outgrow that.
@Shiloha Ben Judah It's reasonable to suggest you don't have to support these businesses, but unless they are taken on in court they will continue to do this and harm the emotional well-being of other children and adults.

There's no proof of a racial motive. The person was wearing a suit, with limited visibility with a parade behind that would run this person over if he didn't pick it up.
Now THAT is revealing. The perspective video- across that lane- captures the Rosita character bypassing those 2 black girls to embrace the white girls on the other side of them. And who was the person the character waved off BEHIND those black girls- as so many have claimed? NO ONE. So if it wasn't those 2 black girls who recieved the "no, not you two" rejection, then who was it? There is nobody behind them. Of course those who will continue to make excuses for the person's actions inside that suit will continue to come up with some sorry weak excuse.

When I first happened to come across Sesame Street as a teenager in the early 1970s in the UK, for its educational value, I considered it by far the best educational programme for pre-school and infant school children. It blew British early-learning programmes out of the water! Not only that, the ugly concept that is the artificially constructed racial divide was not only non-existent, it was the exact opposite - ie, inclusivity of all peoples was enthusiastically encouraged. Because of Sesame Street’s values, as I grew older, I loved it all the more, which may explain why my avatar on TH-cam and other media is my favourite Sesame Street character, Count, the muppet who loved to er, count. The fact that I am fortunate enough to hold a BSc in mathematics, may have something to do with it. I’m in my sixties now, and my four sisters and I still have fond memories of this magical programme. But to witness the footage I have just witnessed…..Those disgraceful incidents could not have been more far removed from what Sesame Street meant, than if those muppet costumes were replaced by the regalia adorned by the racist filth known as the Ku Klux Klan. Those poor kids were robbed of a moment of happiness and warmth from their tv heroes by a repugnant social pervert. And no, these were no innocent accidents; the looking down and consequent hand-waving away, spoke volumes. For crying out loud! Why do you think that the Sesame Street muppets were all different colours? What was the underlying meaning in Kermit’s song “It’s Not Easy Being Green?” Whoever runs this company should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves; not only for the cruelty they inflicted onto these kids, but because of the naked capitalist exploitation and blatant betrayal of all what Sesame Street stood for.
There are park rules dummy, look it up, you can't grab at the mascots, both tried to grab her. Dispicable of the mom to think this is worthy of prime time news and $25 million lawsuit. American blacks are ruining the American culture systematically.
Thanks for putting it so well. Their attempt at spin is tone deaf and disgraceful. They showed no empathy and took no responsibility whatsoever. It seems to be a deeper problem within the organization which starts with the tone at the top. Management needs to take a serious look at themselves. Perhaps they need more diversity at the top.
Just because an employer has certain inclusion views does not mean those values transfer to the employee upon hiring. As the employer cannot force these values they will be forced to impose more rules and regulate equality towards guests. Here's what we should expect to see: No more impromptu interactions with guests such as during parades or while maneuvering to a location as we've seen. This eliminates any perceived snub by refusing all. Character interactions will be limited to scheduled Meet & Greet locations where guests wait in line for their hugs, conversations, and pictures with the characters, equal opportunity for all. I'm honestly surprised this was already the policy...to not have it was a negligent business direction and was begging for this.
So, giving the no gesture to the white woman, who was clearly the person the character INITIALLY gave the no gesture to, is not vile but the continuation, probably of the character still telling the white woman no, is vile because they probably continued to tell the white woman no while turning back to their original walking direction and there just happened to be black kids after the white woman? This type of behavior has been going on at these parks FOREVER! I'm 65 and we used to joke as teens that the characters at these parks were racist! Even as a young kid our parents preferred KBF over DL due to the behavior of the employees in costume and out.
I have worked as a professional costume character performer for 20+ years for Disney & Lucasfilm, - somethings that people don't realize is that ( depending on the character) visibility inside the costume is very poor, which is why there is a handler nearby to keep you from running into things - and usually you can't hear anything either - I can't tell you how many times I almost stepped on a young child because I could not see them - Parades are especially tough, as you have to keep the forward motion of the parade, so if you are taking too long in one spot you get a reminder on your radio ( we usually all have earpieces & 2 -way radios ) My interpretation of this video is the character was taking too long in one spot and was being told to move on - The character was trying to say "no more, I have to go !" I feel we should wait until we hear both sides of the story before rushing to judgement.
I’m black and I see this being a more realistic situation than it being racism….I heard that the character was saying “no” to someone who kept asking them to hold their baby and she ended not even seeing the two young girls. The word “racism” is being very overused at this point…..

There were videos of Sesame Place characters doing even worse to children. One knocked a kid down and Bert slapped a little girl in the face. It was egregiously obvious & disrespectful! 😡
The other videos shows that this was intentional. Rosita walked around that black little girl and the park employee with Rosita should have corrected Rosita and said hey you missed a child. It was business as usual. Sesame street needs to pull their license. Now that would be justice. I haven't heard Disney or Six flags having this issue.
What did the white woman, or someone behind them, ask/say that made the character initially give the no gesture to the white woman, not the black kids?
Stop using the character's name, get the employees name because they are hiding behind the character Rosita to be racist and show unfair treatment to kids which is despicable. They are that suit laughing because their face has not been revealed. Sesame Place is covering this up and they need to stop perpetuating this foolishness. Reveal and hold them all accountable. Understandable. It made me sick to my stomach to see several videos to see if it was true, but if you have ever suffered racism it sticks with you and does damage to you emotionally. Well.... it doesn't seems that their parents are helping the situation. You see, the parents are expressing their hate in front of the little kids. So the hate, racism, discrimination or whichever way anybody wants to call it, will continue year after year after year. If I was a black parent, I'll NEVER discuss what happened in front of my little kids. I'll explain to them, that the character maybe was in a hurry, or maybe he needed to go to the restroom or that probably had an emergency. That way their kids forget what have happened. Whenever their kids are NOT PRESENT, discuss the case with the news station, radio station, your lawyer or whomever you want. The reason behind my opinion is that if you are upset with the character and your child is "hurt", you the parents don't ADD anymore "pain" to your kids. And to me, that bothers me even more thinking that your children have to hear it day after day after day. So in reality this bad experience won't go away in your children mind because of the parents. So the parents are as BAD OR WORSE THAN THE CHARACTER. TWO WRONG ONES DOESN'T MAKE IT BETTER.

Now in 2022 we have a spin off which is Sesame Place doing the same thing that racist people all over the world are doing to black people 🤔? Jesus Christ!
I’ve been in costumes that I couldn’t see out of but I instead used my ears and voice to greet each child. I felt little arms grabbing my legs. I still said hi 👋🏾 I threw my voice out to greet the children I could and could not see. The children have a special personal connection to the actual sesame street characters they are growing up watching on television. It’s real as it gets for them. This person blatantly looked at these children and motioned no after acknowledging other children and adults. If you’re bigoted don’t work at diverse places. That simple.
I really hope we not talking about the same video clip....or else you probably would see some yellow lines, and just about everyone on the other side staying behind it, and the supposed victims walking up to the character, clearly past the safety lines.... Guess not everyone can be perfect and live up to other people's "high standards".
@@stevechi9359 Regardless, you still treat children with kindness and respect. It's a way that this individual in costume could have still acknowledged those children, while guiding them back behind the yellow safety lines. They are kids, give them a break. They see their favorite character in person, they're not thinking about the yellow safety lines. You sound absolutely ridiculous even inferring they are "so called victims" and if you think courtesy and kindness is a "high standard" then you need to rethink your logic.
@@BROOKLYNPOETZ lmao, so a one hour parade should be scheduled for 2/3 hours instead? They are kids, they aren't being targeted or malicious, the workers can only do so much to keep up with the parade, they have parents for a reason, who are adults and should be acting and thinking like a adult. what you are saying is basically the same as they should hug every kid...which is just impossible and still have parades. By your logic, every kid in a school should be getting the same amount of attention, I don't even think we have enough teachers and staffs in any town to fill this kind of staff requirements, besides the fact it's unrealistic.
@@BROOKLYNPOETZ I also really wanna point out, the proportion of black kids in the park vs every other race, whites, Asians,Latinos, Hispanics, middle easterns who also didn't get the attention they wanted from their favorite characters and might feel sad by it. But all that's being talked about and seen is the black one, cause it's somehow racism, but what about every other person who's not black there?. I would think it's unlikely that every kid got their hugs and what not, or even half. And as you even agreed, the yellow lines are there for a reason, and you feel they should do more than just try to wave kids off and telling them don't cross,no no
@@BROOKLYNPOETZ and just something to about, for you, personally. Holding others to high standards means you, yourself live by and act by high standards. How are doing in your job, life, finances, are you at fitting in the high standards in every aspect? Are you anywhere near as perfect as you expect other people's to be?

The white lady walking with Rosita should have made Rosita aware, because they both work for the same company and should greeted the little girl, but, she walked around the little girl. This is not acceptable. You don't see the Rosita character ignoring white children or shaking her big head no and turning her back at the White children. White children are acknowledged because Sesame don't want white parents threatening to sue for not making Sesame fun, exciting and entertaining to their children.
But I'm also not a black person and I have had several characters pass me over in parades when I was a child didn't see my parents get all uppity about it
These characters (all of them) acted the same way toward every black child as if it was an acceptable thing to do at this park. These videos were taken on different days and different times with different families.

Why would a theme park that is specifically designed for children have their characters wear costumes that make it hard to see the very people (children) that they are supposed to be interacting with?
Yes! I said the same thing. You can slice it any way you’d like that second video is clear evidence of how disgusting the person in the costume was to those little girls
Not the first time… who is under this character??🤨🤨
So, you don't know who, or what race, is under the costumer and yet you are sure it was racism?
Donald Trump
What was the underlying meaning in Kermit’s song “It’s Not Easy Being Green?”
Whoever runs this company should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves; not only for the cruelty they inflicted onto these kids, but because of the naked capitalist exploitation and blatant betrayal of all what Sesame Street stood for.
There are park rules dummy, look it up, you can't grab at the mascots, both tried to grab her. Dispicable of the mom to think this is worthy of prime time news and $25 million lawsuit. American blacks are ruining the American culture systematically.
Thank you for this comment.
Thanks for putting it so well. Their attempt at spin is tone deaf and disgraceful. They showed no empathy and took no responsibility whatsoever. It seems to be a deeper problem within the organization which starts with the tone at the top. Management needs to take a serious look at themselves. Perhaps they need more diversity at the top.
ironically, seasame street was designed for urban (mostly black) underprivileged kids as an educational program.
Just because an employer has certain inclusion views does not mean those values transfer to the employee upon hiring. As the employer cannot force these values they will be forced to impose more rules and regulate equality towards guests. Here's what we should expect to see:
No more impromptu interactions with guests such as during parades or while maneuvering to a location as we've seen.
Well said 👏🏾👏🏾
If you don't believe what you saw happen In Texas I don't understand any of you What you see is real
Omg the character signed no with the hand gestures. This is vile. Sesame Street is about equality and inclusive community.
This world has gone a bit mad.
Is it? I can’t tell.
@@grumpygrump2639 can you see? She said no to the white person asking for their child to be picked up, then looked directly down at the black children and hand gestured no to them, then passed them by without high fiving them or anything else. You’re telling on yourself. You must be a “Rosita” too.
The original one WAS.
@@cb4664 So you admit the hand gesture saying no was to the white woman. Then further is it possibly, even more so LIKELY, that the continued no gesture was still directed at the WHITE WOMAN rather than the black kids as the character continued to walk away? This type of behavior has been going on at these parks FOREVER! I'm 65 and we used to joke as teens that the characters at these parks were racist! Even as a young kid our parents preferred KBF over DL due to the behavior of the employees in costume and out.
This is definitely true this is mot nothing new, this been going on since the 90s
You think its racist when it rains on your birthday though.
Even the handlers ignored the non white children in the vid. Their actions here are deliberate.
I’m black and I see this being a more realistic situation than it being racism….I heard that the character was saying “no” to someone who kept asking them to hold their baby and she ended not even seeing the two young girls. The word “racism” is being very overused at this point…..
@@i-annablack5271 Those hand signs were waved in the direction of the two rainbow little girls. And I didn't see any babies in their hands.😅

There were videos of Sesame Place characters doing even worse to children. One knocked a kid down and Bert slapped a little girl in the face. It was egregiously obvious & disrespectful! 😡
Seems like misplaced aggression. A cartoon character ignoring my black kid would be low on my list of problems. I just wouldn't go back.

We shouldn’t always be seeing or thinking of kids with cancer! There’s a time and place for everything! Right now, we’re talking about discrimination at a theme park, a place of joy for little kids.
Should all kids, and all of us go visit a cancer ward, to develop some perspective? Is that what you’re saying? Will that make these emotional scars irrelevant to these kids, and their families?
If it happened to a bunch of white kids, over and over, would you have the same response?🙄
@@oliviaturner7388 You think every white kid in that park with their hand out got a high five or a hug from one of the Sesame Place characters? Don't be ridiculous. Understandable. It made me sick to my stomach to see several videos to see if it was true, but if you have ever suffered racism it sticks with you and does damage to you emotionally. People often don't believe in this kind of stuff going on in society until they see or experience it, but it doesn't we occur and is not harmless.

This is why.
Well.... it doesn't seems that their parents are helping the situation.
This is just bad. 😔 I have seen some very sweet white college aged kids be so kind to sick and underprivileged children. I cannot believe that this happened to children 😢. As an adult black woman, I feel racism at work a lot from customers at times, while other people truly are good people. The racist bad people are starting to outweigh the good. I love children, I don't care what color they are. And I love Sesame Street. 😢 I grew up watching that show! I was a latch key kid! And I didn't always have food to eat, but I had joy because of Sesame Street! Now in 2022 we have a spin off which is Sesame Place doing the same thing that racist people all over the world are doing to black people 🤔? Jesus Christ!
Not everything’s about race

@@stevechi9359 Regardless, you still treat children with kindness and respect. @@BROOKLYNPOETZ lmao, so a one hour parade should be scheduled for 2/3 hours instead?
