Bret is a class act. The guy loves the music. He is constantly on the road playing shows and recording. Nobody goes to a Poison show to see makeup (which they no longer wear much of). They go for the songs and the performance.
You're all supposed to be the best band in history but now one of the main things I see sometimes and you all better find it way to control it or alot of people including you guys may get hurt or possibly killed
He's one of the nicest celebrities I've ever met. I was working an event he showed up at and did him a small favor, before he left he made sure to find me to thank me again and shake my hand.
They need to bring back Circus and Hit Parade magazines...they use to have all the gossip on the feuds between bands and band mates...lol...Those truly were the days...
Bret nailed it! Always have respect for him for being a stand-up guy and ALWAYS giving 110% when they're playing. Saw them last year and his voice is still phenom while Joe's sounds like he's been gargling with coffee grounds. I was always a fan of Leppard but as of late Joe seems WAY too fucking full of himself. Rock on, Bret!
Joe may feel like their reign has been lost to history, at least where it properly belongs. They were the best of the best of that late 80s era. I think Hysteria was hands down the best album of that scene. And they were left twisting in the wind for induction into the Hall of Fame far too long. Joe gave the speech for the entire band, and I think he's always felt like he was the sole main defender of that group. The can't think of a group that has been through more and kept going. On top of that, their genre of music becoming "out dated" by mainstream just as they hit their prime. I imagine they have all felt defensive about their music since the grunge wave tried to make them look like dinosaurs. But, it stands the test of time with the BEST!
I love Def Leppard, but,.. Joe, he was out of line! Remember the era! The 80s were about go big or go home, excess, big and bold, MTV,(when they actually played videos) was about the visual! Brett, you handled that really well! Thank you for the music and the best memories!!
Def Leppard never claimed to be a metal band, they are a diverse rock band. I think people take Joe's comments way too personal. All he said was that some bands image came first , and with Def Leppard it was always the music. Since this incident Def Leppard and Poison have Tour like 3 times together, of course Poison is the opening band, and rightfully so. Yea Poisons first album did pretty good, and had some good songs on it, but no rock band ever came close to outsell Hysteria. Not even GNR . And by the way Joe Elliott is a really nice guy , I've met him, along with the other guys.
Appetite has sold 5 million more copies than Hysteria, Back in Black sold 25 million more copies, Hysteria's a great album but other Rock bands have topped it.
I grew up liking both bands. Steve Clark made Def Leppard. They were done after he passed. Poison always sound great live. Still disappointed Joe would say something like this, especially lumping Motley in there as well.
I saw Bret perform solo in Nashville with the flu. His guard told us (the line of fans at the bus) this, and said that Bret still wants to see everyone before he leaves. He sang wonderfully, (without lip-synching), rocked our asses off, and stayed to see each one of us, with the flu, on... let's see... November 30th/December 1st, 3 or 4 years ago. Very cold outside, and his talking was rough, but not his singing! Awesome person--my musical idol!!!
i saw def leppard 2 months ago, ad trust me joe sang better than ever, and the backig vocals of the band members were so real that any other band can do too well, def leppard is getting better everyday.
I'm a huge Def Leppard fan! Hysteria was my first AND second album, because I literally played the tape to DEATH! I saw them perform on tv a couple years ago. And Joe really struggled with the high parts of Love Bites. I'm glad to hear they are still shredding! Maybe the sound guy messed up his mic, or maybe his voice was strained from their tour. It was never the same for me after Steve tragically passed. I watched Phil post about playing Steve's parts when they recorded Adrenalize. And it was so touching. He said it was a very moving, spiritual experience to be playing what Steve wrote. Like a part of him was there with him. It gives me chills to think about it. I may have to go watch it again. Def Leppard will NEVER have to defend against someone questioning their legitness! They are a rock n roll machine!
I agree with Bret that nobody should be shit-talkin' other bands. It's just bad form and it makes the mouthpiece look bad. I saw Guns 'n Roses in '87 at the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix and all I remember about the show was Axl talkin' smack about KISS' Paul Stanley and pitching his microphone at the sound guy. Maybe it's my old guy memory, but I think the antics often destroy the experience and however good the rest of the show is it doesn't erase the bad. Thirty years later, I think Axl has learned his lesson (judging purely on performances with AC/DC and such). As much as I admire and listen to Def Leppard, I think Joe Elliot should take a page from Axl's storybook and stop knockin' other bands. There's room for everybody. Poison has an audience, which to me means they're doing something good and right. Ditto Motley Crue (saw them open for KISS in 1983 and headline with Whitesnake like 5 years later--great shows, both). If DL is seeing a decline in performance attendance, they might think about putting some distance between shows. If I have a chance to see them every single year, I might just skip 'em for another option--especially given ticket prices. Just sayin'.
Kiss would've been nothing without their gimmick. They're all terrible musicians who made it work. Hell, I even went to see them when I was a kid, but I'd take talented musicians over them any day.
Dont really care. I love both bands. Flesh & Blood was a good album. Pyromania killer album. Hysteria massive!!! It's all about the music. It's all Rock & Roll!!!
Isser Dayan .. if you know you're good, why bother taking stabs at others in your profession. These bands are good enough that they don't have to carry on like babies.
Yes they stil around and they are one of the few bands that never has stopped, since 1980 to this days they are making albums and touring sold out venues all over the world, there are too many videos here on youtube for many DL concerts all over the world, DEF REALLY ROCKS
That's wild. I was born in 79. I didn't know I was about the same age as the group. I definitely grew up with them in a big way. They opened my ears and soul up to music that nothing else could have managed so perfectly. Pyromania and Hysteria will stand the test of time long after we're all gone.
joe elliot has some strong words for a guy from a band who hasnt produced anything even close to AVERAGE since 92 (im a DL fan up to+including adrenalize) - Poison are a rockin band who never protested to be technically the best band going, but what poison are is honest and all about havin a good time. Joe elliot could learn to keep his arrogant mouth shut. He was bashing winger too once, have anyone here actually LISTENED to the music in winger? the musicians could outplay def lepp with ease.
Who would have thought that 11 years after this “feud” happened that they’d all be touring together? Motley Crue (Nikki Sixx) had made remarks -and later apologized -too about Poison. Let’s face it- it should all be about the music. I love all the artists on The Stadium Tour... I won’t choose sides. I may not like everything hey do or say but I love the music.
Poison were never great musicians, but that never stopped them from writing good tunes. Their songs have stood the test of time, and that is more important than musicianship...
Hey i was there at dodge arena, the show was amazing, you can see how profesional this band is, exelent sound quality that many bands cand do this days, please if you know that the concert was recorded plese let me know i want a copy, DEF ROCKS
Majority of rock bands from the 80's had long hair, layered, straight, wavy, or permy styles, and wore those vest tops, leather jackets and torn jeans...It doesn't at all make it hair/glam. Sure Leppard's music became poppy-metal with hysteria, but it was among the best of that genre. The substance was clearly there in the album - not even close to lacking it. Again its not glam, as that is only an image label, which they didn't quite support, i.e. the biggest hair + make-up+ tight-ass spandex.
Bret's right about that D w/the Stars bit(watched clip after this one)that was beyond brutal to watch for anyone, and even worse if you were ever a fan of DL. Fact of the matter with DL is that, apart from all the drama over the years (everyone knows the stories), they were able to make good music for decades now...no band that's been around for as long as DL is putting out music that rivals what they put out in their peak, including Poison and most bands from the era.
It's very telling how many Def Leppard fans took the time to chime in on this. I think Bret responded very classy, without really criticizing in return. But, Def Leppard is in a category by themselves! I think the worst thing they probably went through professionally was continuing to make great music, but suddenly everyone is wearing flannel and looking at them like has-beens. They were certainly a hand that did not rely on LOOK. The relied on performing truly EXCELLENT music and blasting a hole out of the Earth's ass for the next 30+ years!
TBH I like all the music and the costumes. When you think of the 80's rock music, you automatically think of the big hair and costumes. ... I like all of it.
I said the same several thing several pages ago. It's evident we all enjoy this type of music. Instead of arguing about who is better than who, we should just respect the music for what it is.
Powerslave is a great one as well. I forgot about it until you mentioned it. I was just checking on Maiden's current tour and it looks like I missed seeing them in Los Angeles in May. Oh well I'll try and catch them next time.
ok seriously. im a HUGE def leppard fan they are my favorite band and i love posions music too. but they just need to set it aside and forget they are just making it worse.
Def Leppard blows Poison off the face of this earth. There is no comparison. Poison to me like a parady. Joe is COMPLETELY RIGHT in his observation and he knows good Music. Poison defintely a parady. Rock of Love III PLEASE.............
It seems every live video these days of Joe you see fans saying he has cold that's why he sounds bad, then you see him on Dancing with the stars the whole band was faking it. I personally loved Pyromania & Hysteria was cool but the more pop they become the more I don't like them ,Motley is a great Rock/Metal band, Nikki has 2 hit song this year with SOLA & his side project's song Life is beautiful
He made a great point about still being around. If the songs weren't enjoyable or they couldn't play, they wouldn't have people coming out to see them after all these years. I love Def Leppard but I have to hand it to Bret Michaels. That was a classy, well thought out response.
A couple of things from an admitted Def Leppard fan. Joe messed up here, he’s normally very thoughtful, but he is not reacting to Poison. His frustration was with being put into a box with all of the hair metal 80s bands, that Def Leppard never fit. Joe Elliot is truly beloved by most people in rock, and fans, because of how thoughtful, kind, and generous with his time and attention he is, and genuine his love and knowledge of music history is. Just watch his recent interview with Dave Grohl for example. And for the kind of commenters, who only loved Metallica (love them too) and denigrate Def Leppard at every opportunity, and say things like “well if it weren’t for this video nobody ever would’ve heard of Def Leppard in the last 20 years” keep this in mind.,.. They were second to Drake, with one of the top five highest grossing tours in the last season before Covid. It out grossed the 1988 Hysteria tour. You may hate them, but people care.
110% agreed. I grew up listening to Lepps, they were my fave band right up to Adrenalize/Retroactive (before they completely sold out). But now they (or Joe at least) are more focussed on badmouthing every other band (including grunge bands from 20 years ago, who no longer exist) instead of producing quality music.
JohnoEAL really dude use the word "sold out" times change man they to expierment alittle after the adrenalize and retro active rock did get of the main stream during the 90s
Def Leppard was in makeup during the Rocket video for a reason. If you would pay attention a bit you would know this. The reason they did the song and the makeup thing was a tribute to some of the 70's glam bands. Bands like T-Rex and David Bowie. They didn't dress up just to dress up. There was a reason behind it.
Strange that Joe would make that comment. I love both bands. Just saw Def Leppard, Poison and Cheap Trick in concert in Atlanta on 8/15/09 and they all still have it, and unlike the American Idol concert that I went to in July (where everyone sat the whole dang show except for during Adam Lambert) these fans still know how to ROCK!
I used to love CC's playing. Pure rock n roll. But, I'd have taken the Steve Clark challenge with just about ANYONE, this side of Eric Clapton! RIP to a true legend, taken far too soon.
van halen, def leppard, ac/dc, pink floyd, the eagles, I don´t know if i miss other one, they are the only bands that have sold 10 millions records just in USA, Def leppard have two albums in that list, Hysteria and pyromania, I think van halen is 1984 album? is other one?, just asking
Rick Sav - look! I'm a big Hugh fan of Def Leppard. Been to see them, had all their albums and even called the record store once a week to see if their release was in yet. I spent hundreds on def leppard through the years. But, what Joe said was kinda shitty and I'm American and he's knocking my home bands. So un-cool dude! Don't knock my American rock n roll brothers.
BUT... I will say this about Brett's comment about lip syncing at Dancing with the Stars. They were told to because the dancers were dancing to it. When it's live, they can't choreograph to precision dances with music that loud. They aren't the only ones who had to lip sync that show.
Just talking with a friend & Deflepard wore make up for there video Rocket It's in one of the TV screens & even if it was for show he still said we never did it. Another thing Phil Collen was in a "GLAM BAND" just before he joined Deflepard.
Yesss, i totally agree with you lesabre123, the problem here is that there are many people that dosen´t really know the dates, when BJ stared Def leppard were touring their all over the world with their 3th album
Of poison to def leppard there is not much difference, in the 80s all the young girls enjoyed both bands, everything was in the same buckets, until metallica, in the 80s everything was worth, Dee snider said it in an interview, that he had fans who listened twisted sister and duran duran, wooow !! Said dee snider
If that is the case you better scroll back a few pages. There are tons of Leppard supporters who have commented as well. Hysteria alone had 7 hit singles. How many did Shout At The Devil have?
I was just at the concert 4 hours ago in Columbus, Ohio... Poison kicked everyones ass!!!! No lip-syncing!!! Just Real, Raw, Pure Glam Metal!!!!!! Poison Fucking Rules!!!!!
I love both bands also but i think def leppard still cant get over the fact grunge knocked them out and they didnt think they were a 80s hairband and they were.I love all music except most rap
Actually Joe told it like it really is. He was right about everything he said. Don't get all butt hurt because he mentioned bands that you like. Everything he said is very true. With bands like Poison (especially) and the Crue it was always about the image. How can you deny this. Look at the videos they released in the 80's. How can you say with a straight face that it was about the music? Face it, the Crue and Poison will always play second fiddle to DL. That is a fact.
Bret is a class act. The guy loves the music. He is constantly on the road playing shows and recording. Nobody goes to a Poison show to see makeup (which they no longer wear much of). They go for the songs and the performance.
Exactly Brett works very hard.. promoting and touring!!!! Remember the apprentice!!!!!!💥💥
maybe. but he just ripped hanoi rocks. poison took hanoi rocks look and tryid to be a rock band
its not easy as a finnish speaker to do good rocks in english. but they still managed. show me how poison can handle finnish.
Funny thing, Joe said he didn't consider Motley Crue and Poison all that good and now they're all touring together 😂
Hypocrisy overall, 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣, too cocky Mr. Elliot.
You're all supposed to be the best band in history but now one of the main things I see sometimes and you all better find it way to control it or alot of people including you guys may get hurt or possibly killed
Gladys Helena Medina Flores lmaooo he just likes to speak unfiltered unlike SOME artists i would know, so there you gO.
i’m going lol
yo motley crue is racist as hayl homie watchu talkin bout
And they're all going on a tour together in "2020" 😂
i’m going lol
I saw DL, Poison and Lita Ford in 2012.
And now the concert is postponed until 2022. I bought tickets in 2019.
Bret is such an AWESOME soul. He really seems like a kind hearted person, Rock on🤘
He's one of the nicest celebrities I've ever met. I was working an event he showed up at and did him a small favor, before he left he made sure to find me to thank me again and shake my hand.
Luv both bands 100%. Bretts 100% correct though. Very class act responce.
They need to bring back Circus and Hit Parade magazines...they use to have all the gossip on the feuds between bands and band mates...lol...Those truly were the days...
I know I miss those and Metal Edge.
Brian Taylor , RIP Magazine was the best. imo
Then Metal Edge , Circus, then Hit Parader. 🤘
You forgot CREEM Magazine. CREEM was the best Rock Publication of all time
Bret nailed it!
And here we are 15 years later and you tour all over the US with Poison ;)
Elliott's right about Hanoi Rocks though. One of the most underrated bands ever.
Well this is awkward lol! Now 14 years later all 3 bands are touring together doing a stadium show
Def Leppard are now touring with Motley Crue and Poison !
Def Leppard never claimed to be a metal band, they are a diverse rock band. I think people take Joe's comments way too personal. Slippery When Wet outsold Hysteria
I grew up liking both bands. Steve Clark made Def Leppard. They were done after he passed. Poison always sound great live. Still disappointed Joe would say something like this, especially lumping Motley in there as well.
Dude hes mad when grunge killed them and they got classified as a 80s hairband and thats that generation of music is too bad for them
@@cliffduzz1849 lol thats why they are still together and still tour mad? I think not
I saw Bret perform solo in Nashville with the flu. His guard told us (the line of fans at the bus) this, and said that Bret still wants to see everyone before he leaves. Exactly enjoy what little is left of this great music, It's all Rock & Roll!!!
Isser Dayan a g r e e
Love both Def Leppard AND Poison. But Bretts spot on with his take. Much more smartly put as well.
Yes they stil around and they are one of the few bands that never has stopped, since 1980 to this days they are making albums and touring sold out venues all over the world, there are too many videos here on youtube for many DL concerts all over the world, DEF REALLY ROCKS

Brett's the man
I like Def Leppard and I like Poison and I've seen Brett in concert. He's a good guy and puts on a great show.
Funny, how two of those bands that Joe mentioned are included in the sold out Stadium Tour.😐
joe elliot has some strong words for a guy from a band who hasnt produced anything even close to AVERAGE since 92 (im a DL fan up to+including adrenalize) - Poison are a rockin band who never protested to be technically the best band going, but what poison are is honest and all about havin a good time. BoM45 😂😂😂 oh yeah even tho def leppard is a better band then posion with more hits and more albums solded
Poison steals the show!
Bret is a class act. About as nice of a guy as they come in the business. Joe Elliot is a schmuck.
Joe Elliott IS NOT A Schmuck! Ur just jealous
Christina LaVancher I agree
It wasnt a knock to the bands glam was more than just make up at the beginning thats all joe was saying of how these bands missed the point
th-cam.com/video/vCg6IPaWZ5s/w-d-xo.html Bret lip Syncs too.
LMAO what
Who would have thought that 11 years after this “feud” happened that they’d all be touring together? Motley Crue (Nikki Sixx) had made remarks -and later apologized -too about Poison.

Ironic now they tour together and are great friends.
I'm going to see Bret Michaels tonight I really want to meet him but don't know if he had give me the time of day I'm in Pensacola Florida
I took my son to see poison and Def Leopard
It was his first concert
See for yourself. Go to Poison Web and click on tour. They have ALL the dates listed.
the Poison and leppard tour is now offical
check out hairmetal . net for details!
Hey i was there at dodge arena, the show was amazing, you can see how profesional this band is, exelent sound quality that many bands cand do this days, please if you know that the concert was recorded plese let me know i want a copy, DEF ROCKS

Who did more than one song on what show? If you are talking about Poison, you are right. It was on for an hour and a half or so.
Def Leppard blows Poison off the face of this earth. There is no comparison. Poison to me like a parady. Joe is COMPLETELY RIGHT in his observation and he knows good Music. Poison defintely a parady. Rock of Love III PLEASE.............
bret is the nice and humble guy
That is great. How did it do on the charts kid? How high did it go?
It seems every live video these days of Joe you see fans saying he has cold
that's why he sounds bad, then you see him on Dancing with the stars the whole band
was faking it. I personally loved Pyromania & Hysteria was cool but the more pop they become the more I don't like them ,Motley is a great Rock/Metal band, Nikki has 2 hit song this year with SOLA & his side project's song Life is beautiful
Reb Beach is playing a guitar solo in the background of Joe Elliot's speach.
And now they are on tour together.
Every show he sing photograph, i saw them just a week ago and was amazing, he can still reach high notes
Yet Def Leppard has had Poison on tour with them 3 times.
If I'm not mistaken DL performed that song with Mick Ronson at the Freddie Mercury concert?
He made a great point about still being around. If the songs weren't enjoyable or they couldn't play, they wouldn't have people coming out to see them after all these years. I love Def Leppard but I have to hand it to Bret Michaels. That was a classy, well thought out response.

Idiot
Nah I think it's just Joe
all the groups the same to me..just chill play music and live the life guys.
Bret just announced that they will be touring with Def Leppard this summer.
after all this their still touring together???
I just did the work for you. The two 2008 tours break down like this:
Poison-49 dates
Def Leppard- 74 dates
Strange that Joe would make that comment. I love both bands. Just saw Def Leppard, Poison and Cheap Trick in concert in Atlanta on 8/15/09 and they all still have it, and unlike the American Idol concert that I went to in July (where everyone sat the whole dang show except for during Adam Lambert) these fans still know how to ROCK!
And now they are going on tour together
I love poison and most of all those 80s bands! Cc devil was hands down the best for his time ! His solos are incredible always
Document my life Aggressive Motivation sorry but Steve Stevens for me
I used to love CC's playing. Pure rock n roll.
But, I'd have taken the Steve Clark challenge with just about ANYONE, this side of Eric Clapton!
RIP to a true legend, taken far too soon.
Surprised Joe Elliott slammed Poison and especially Motley Crüe. Now they’re all going to play together. I guess it’s water under the bridge.
Thanks, Jennifer
I respect Joe Elliot, he had balls to say the truth!
Reb beach playing in the background
But DL doesn't tour every year. They play to half full shacks as well.
Yes they did two songs. They performed Nine Lives I believe and PSSOM. They lip synched both. This was the decision of the producers, not DL.
What do you mean? Which cities where they toured together?
Im a huuuge def lep & poison fan and I couldnt agree with your comments more.
what was joe thinking!?
van halen, def leppard, ac/dc, pink floyd, the eagles, I don´t know if i miss other one, they are the only bands that have sold 10 millions records just in USA, Def leppard have two albums in that list, Hysteria and pyromania, I think van halen is 1984 album? is other one?, just asking
Well Poison don't wear makeup anymore and are constantly selling out shows, go figure.....
+Jaded cynical 77 poison hasn't played a show since 2012
fuckher rightinthepussy and they opened for Def Leppard lol
Rick Sav - look! I'm a big Hugh fan of Def Leppard. Been to see them, had all their albums and even called the record store once a week to see if their release was in yet. I spent hundreds on def leppard through the years. But, what Joe said was kinda shitty and I'm American and he's knocking my home bands. So un-cool dude! Don't knock my American rock n roll brothers.
2many Secrets I chalk it up to 2 different types of bands. wish Joe could do the same. well. guess they're over it. already on 2nd tour together.
Third tour opening for Def Leppard: 2009, 2012, and 2017.
BUT... I will say this about Brett's comment about lip syncing at Dancing with the Stars. They were told to because the dancers were dancing to it. When it's live, they can't choreograph to precision dances with music that loud. They aren't the only ones who had to lip sync that show.
Just a question. Does anybody knows if the new dvd of posion is just DVD or is cd Too?
Sorry but Poison's first album was amazing a true classic Glam Metal album.
Just talking with a friend & Deflepard wore make up for there video Rocket
It's in one of the TV screens & even if it was for show he still said we never did it.
Another thing Phil Collen was in a "GLAM BAND" just before he joined Deflepard.
they are touring together now l ol
This drama is the most entertaining thing ive found about either band in many many years.
I love Def Leppard but i dont know why Joe put down Poison and The Crue they all rock!
Yesss, i totally agree with you lesabre123, the problem here is that there are many people that dosen´t really know the dates, when BJ stared Def leppard were touring their all over the world with their 3th album
Of poison to def leppard there is not much difference, in the 80s all the young girls enjoyed both bands, everything was in the same buckets, until metallica, in the 80s everything was worth,
Dee snider said it in an interview, that he had fans who listened twisted sister and duran duran, wooow !! Said dee snider
ware at i was going to go to the one in irvine, ca
I like Def Leppard's music better than Poison. But gotto agree with Brett Michaels here.
great comparisons, great comment. :)
Since when did Poison and Def Leppard start feuding?
dude he had an upper respiritory infection dude. and yes you have lip synced before.
I love both bands also but i think def leppard still cant get over the fact grunge knocked them out and they didnt think they were a 80s hairband and they were.I love all music except most rap
hell yerh. and phil was in 'full costume' when joe asked him to come play in his band.
Thanks
I vote Bret any day of the year!!!!!!!! but I do love me some def lep
Same here :) We don't have to choose one or the other!
Who's that fucking amazing guitarist playing in the background?
Nice that Joe says good things about Hanoi rocks because I´m from Finland and I like both DL & HR
a lot.
Ooooooohhhh! Brett Michaels, nails it! LOL.
