It gave me legit shivers, his bass kind of built up a static electricity on the run up to going into his lead and then when he took the lead vocals it released the shudder down my spine I think thatxs the first time his voice has done what Avi's has done fairly often in that respect. It was just a perfect storm on this song.
This is such a somber song. We get so accustomed to their frenetic energy, we are taken aback when they slow it down. Personally, I like this one--pure singing on its own merits. Beautiful chords, flowing background vocals...haunting. Happily subscribed, love your reactions!

"Cologne", when I checked it yesterday, has a ? in the column that states what they're releasing for it instead of "Official Video" like the others have... and it's dead last on the list. I was shocked to say the least. The other Official Video releases are in the order that they appear on the "At Home" EP and are scheduled to be released one week apart. Maybe it requires more time to put a video together for, because Kevin's Beatboxing is a very new sound and its just him for the first part of the track. I wonder if he used any looping or layering.. which would make a number too complex for live A Capella performances. in the past, those tracks don't get official videos Nor are they performed live. Another thing that never gets official music videos are their Originals that they only perform on concert tours. Like "Happy Now" which is an amazing original. I sincerely hope it shows up on their original album when they release it. All of their originals are only on their albums and performed in concert or on guest appearances. I wonder who has the say in that? If it's SME or if it's Pentatonix? Cuz I know they like to do special things for their fans that come to see them. But it's hard for the fans that are physically unable to see them yet are still patrons. I don't know I am not in the music industry but I do love what they put out. A cologne is an awesome sounding track and I want to see it!

There's no way you can compare what Billie did with hers to what anybody else will do. I think they would have been foolish to try to duplicate Billie's style from home. They had to learn how to record themselves all alone except for Kevin and if you watch his solo work you will see what I mean about his experience with equipment . I don't think the rest of them are quite the technical Wizards or have the equipment even if they knew how to use it. they have really good ideas that then they have had friends with the skill to make those ideas translate into a visually awesome video! Yeah what Billie and her brother put together was absolutely amazing! Those two are geniuses and they came up with something that was absolutely fresh. Pentatonix did a lot of vocal work in this that people who are into the singing part of music are going to like. They emoting was heart-wrenching for me because I can relate in real life to the exact words to this freaking tearjerker and they got me. So I think that's why they went for this style because it lends more to what they can do right now. I mean these guys are using things in their own house and their own clothing for these videos and they don't have Ben Bram in the house with all of the things he brings with him that is needed to record and create the effects they want like they did in Daft Punk. And who knows if supplies needed for makeup are available at the corner drugstore or if it's even open right now? Cuz that's where they got their supplies for their makeup for Daft Punk. This is the very first time we see Matt control his need to smile for an entire video. That took some doing because he smiles so much the fandom named him Smiley Matt Sallee from the start when he was first introduced as the bass for the Christmas tour in 2017 and we didn't know if he was going to be part of the group yet. On Twitter we informed Pentatonix that they HAD to hire Matt because we were keeping him and they had no choice. 😂 all of Scott's Instagram feeds with him hanging out with Matt, and fan uploads from them in concert at the first venues had us excited! but when Pentatonix told Matt he had to get a Twitter account and then he tweeted that he was going to include a link for a live Instagram feed for later that night when he was going to be basically hanging out with his friends on Berkeley Night for his alumnus school that we checked in to have a peek at what he was all about in real time . it looked like a sit-in from the seventies inside of a part of a buildingit looked like a sit-in from the seventies inside of a part of it looked like a sit-in from the seventies inside of a cozy room in a building with people sitting cross-legged on the floor and others with some instruments that were standing and Matt was sitting on a stool with all those people gathered around instead of on the stage with the audience seated out separately watching a show. And we saw what he was about as him's just being himself . he had a friend holding his phone streaming what was happening and he kept running over to make sure it was working cuz he said he had promised Pentatonix fans on Twitter that it would be running and then it just felt like we were all sitting around the campfire and everybody was part of the fun. the energy and the happiness just came right through the airwaves and that Young man smiles and claps and dances while he sings and loves every minute of his life as well as every single person that is in his personal space. he gets people excited about joining in and being part of what's going on. He makes an excellent front man! I remember a fan that was watching it when I was saying that they really liked the energy they were getting from this. and I do believe that live stream was what one us over after everything else we had seen. This was the thing that put the final stamp of approval on it for us. He is a very happy person and it radiates. Plus he acknowledges every person he sees and doesn't just past anybody by without stopping to thank them or say a nice word. people that have been on pentatonix's Team for the last couple of years have commented on how much it meant to them that Matt would stop and talk to them when they were such a small part of everything that's going on. I remember a young lady that was very appreciative and just wowed that he made a point of stopping and thanking her for having a smile for him every single day that he passed by her station. She was the person whose job it was to sit there and check for tags before people went back into the band and crew area. it meant so much to her. I have this huge love for that kid. I went on and on describing his personality simply so that people would understand why this next part mattered. for the first time since he joined this group Matt got through an entire video without cracking a smile when it was supposed to be a somber video! I am so proud of his new Milestone achievement on his acting! Plus he broke my heart when he did that "oh" vocalization right after his solo and Kevin was the accompanying vocal with the high Harmony? Kevin sounded angelic. And I thought Yes! we got to hear Kevin's beautiful falsetto without anybody over the top of him so we knew it was him! And Matt's acting broke my heart with that one vowel sound! the Rhythm Section took it up a level as main vocalists and I was THRILLED that we got that as fans! We all want to see and hear more of our bass and beatboxer singing. Their typical Rhythm Section gig is crucial to the Pentatonix signature sound and absolutely has to be part of most of their music or they wouldn't sound like they have real instruments playing with them. and that's that "I can't believe it" Factor that Wow's people that aren't really into vocals unless the vocal knocks them over the head with a Mitch Grassi high note or an Avi Kaplan bass drop that rumbles everything in our room and takes out speakers. Matt's getting there with those low notes and I love the way he brought the bass in on blinding lights! I want him to keep working on that, and I have this thing I want him to learn called a bass vocal fry! combine that with Kevin's beatboxing and we can get some really cool sounds! I heard a beat boxer that can do a Bass Vocal Fry at the same time he's beatboxing and it blows my mind. I had never heard anything like it before coming from the beatboxer alone. I don't I think Kevin's range goes that low? so that leaves it to Matt. I just think it would be so cool to add that to their numbers now and then but not often enough to destroy Matt's voice of course. Also Mitch was perfect for this song and he sounded absolutely haunting as did Kevin. So, for me this video works because I could SEE who was doing what finally because I suspected Kevin in certain parts.. but we don't have enough of Kevin singing with them to know for sure... but I got it right! even though it wasn't your favorite by far you were very respectful in how you expressed it and that makes it much more pleasant when a reactor doesn't enjoy a number. I think it would be called respect and I hope we always show respect as fans and I love the reactors that can dislike a particular number but do it with respect. I've been on lockdown for years have this is my entire window to the outside world that I communicate through. I really wish they would have went up to the high note on "leaving" and "over" since they're more than capable and that note really hits a key emotion in the song.
