Thank you, cool sister, I'm 74 years old and my Drum, is one of the most best friends I'll ever have ! DRUMS ARE WINDOWS TO ANOTHER WORLD. PEACE, LOVE, AND HAPPINESS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!!!
I'm hooked on these Remo drums too. I have the 16" Bahia buffalo drum, 16" Fiberskyn buffalo drum, and this week received the 18" x 8" Bahia frame drum. Eventually I will own at least one of each of their big bass gathering drums. They have two styles in the 22" x 21", as well as some other nice ones. They label some of them for "kids" but that's only because they are not tunable like their "adult" ones. I asked about a difference in quality for kids (lesser) and adults (better) and they said they are all the same quality, so made for adults despite the "kids" title. Good to know! remo.com/products/drums/?product_type=gathering-drum
BEST tutorial ever. All I needed to know were the elements and to let them speak, the patterns and rhythms just came to me immediately. Thank you for sharing!
Thank You for the many wonderful, uplifting videos! I enjoyed this one as well, but being that I was also taught by Layne Redmond I found the change in the dum and the ka confusing. If you hadn't referred to her and her teacher it would have been easier to accept your version.
Hi! Who was Layne Redmond's teacher? You mentioned it was something like Hobson... (I couldn't understand you). Love your channel! I was turned on to you by the Expressive Arts Therapist and trainer, Yvette Lyons, PhD, founder of Creative Healing Arts Center in Carlsbad, CA
Hi, I can answer that for you. Hamza el Din, a Nubian drummer, shared the concept of the elements relating to the strokes of the frame drum, to Layne. I never thought of him as her teacher, though. Her teacher was Glen Velez, and they went on to perform together.
I thought the video was cool, but I believe you changed the beat "WATER" to "EARTH". Just because the vibration of the EARTH element is static, and water suggests waves, precisely with the prolonged vibration beating.
Hi, I can answer that. On the jingled frame which is the tambourine, air is ‘cha’. On the frame drum without jingles, air is a brush stroke, brushing the pads of your fingertips up and down on the drum head, making a shhhhh sound. Hope this helps!
Hi. There is no exact system in the universe. Like the medicine wheel changes with tribes the drum sounds like earth when open bass in Native American style and I go with that. Play as you wish of course.
Yes - there are some traditions that teach it that way. To me - its more of a match the way I presented it - based on the sounds and energy of element to me. Thanks for watching it. The point here of course is connecting to the elements with your drum. However you hear and feel it. ashe!
I thought the video was cool, but I believe you changed the beat "WATER" to "EARTH". Just because the vibration of the EARTH element is static, and water suggests waves, precisely with the prolonged vibration beating.
His name is Hamsa el Din, but he wasn’t exactly Layne’s teacher, she just learned the element’s relationships to the strokes of the drum: dum is water, kah is earth, toc is fire, and cha is air. He’s a wonderful and famous Nubian musician, you might wanna check him out!
from this interview you can get another interpretation of these elements, and more, through rhythm using the I Ching. th-cam.com/video/EPhuBLV0f1E/w-d-xo.html happy drumming!
Please state that you have deviated from Layne Redmond's teaching, as what you are teaching was not taught by her. She taught Kah as earth and Dum as water, as did Hamza el Din. All you need to say is that you are changing/adapting your understanding, but to state this is what Layne Redmond taught feels misleading. If she taught that to you, perhaps you could clarify this?
@@ubdrumcirclesThere’s always one in every crowd… Let’s go to their channel and see what FREE videos they kindly uploaded for humanity… 🙄 Thank you so much for doing this video and uploading it! I don’t think people realize how much stress and effort it takes to upload even a small video, let alone one with such great talent as you have. 🥳
If you are going to make changes that deviate from what you were taught, I'd suggest stating those changes explicitly, otherwise, you cannot claim that you are passing on information from specific teachers--its misleading.
The seconds after that earth, fire, water, winds stuff I thought to myself Im going straight back to TH-cam Iranian performers...... I feel like its stupering the many distinct sounds to awkwardly match pseudo intellectual alchemy concepts.
The concept of relating the elements to the strokes of the frame drum, was passed to Layne Redmond by the famous Nubian musician Hamza El Din. Not an intellectually derived thing at all.

I love this so much! I will use this in my Sound baths! Thank you so so much. These were great tips. ❤ I love your beautiful energy !
If you follow Layne Redmond's instructions, Kah is Earth (hand sticks) and Doum is Water (finger bounces off for a ring).
Exactly. Having studied with Layne, this video is mistaken. Kah stroke is Earth and Dum stroke is Water.
Hi. Yes. I feel to reverse the Hamza el Din idea and play earth as open bass sound. Based on Native American teaching and my own research. Thanks
@@ubdrumcircles love & live both concepts 💚
I just got a 22" REMO ocean drum and LOVE it! Thank you so much for this tutorial. Hadnt thought about the elements! Awesome!!!

is that a ocean drum player in the background or is that just water ...
