Great tutorial, my first dive into coin-ops. I know Mame/Retroarch quite well, and your well explained tutorial made the configuration process much less intimidating. Subscribed.
I have some questions if you could answer please If I want to use a PS4 controller would it work Bluetooth or would it have to be wired? And you mentioned Xbox controller automatically works, would that be a 360 or one controller? Also you can add games but can you add an emulator if the build doesn't have it?
Definately the controller will work wired. I havent tried bluetooth but it may work if configured correctly (connected to PC mking sure all buttons work). Yes microsoft controllers should automatically work but its not hard to configure a ps4 controller its a one time configuration. Yes you can add emulators and game builds to your existing set up.
What is the setting for filters? All the games for some reason look over saturated and definitely not what it should be. Also, is there a ini setting to change it to a default filter?
The filters available are scanlines, crt, and few others. You can turn on/off in the settings at main menu. Or you can go to the folder and run the script on or off
I'm looking for way to customize the actual coinops user interface (the start up screen where you pick games and stuff). Specifically - Im looking to setup a key combination to mute the volume - Im also curious to see a list of button assignments / names. When I unplugged my usb keyboard and mouse after getting things generally setup, it appears that my P1 and P2 controls have flipped.
@@richieace5492 I found a video where a guy said he found a version on a forum that you paste over and all the videos reappear. Everything was already set up correctly!
Do you have issues with windows re assigning p1 &p2 usb encoders? and flip flopping them? I have had this issue on any front end I ever built. Do you have a true 2 player setup using 2 encoders or 2 usb sticks?
@@richieace5492 is that version of coinops mame only? Or does it use retroarch? I found that mame only frontends give no issues but when using other emulators within the frontend it will sometimes flipflop p1 and p2 encoders
How do u change which arcade button starts a game from the coinops selection menu? It's enter on a keyboard and A on Xbox controller. But can figure out how to make a button be the select button to start game. Plz help
There is no settings to change the CoinOps UI. I think it can only be done by a script but never tried it. Typically it should work with any controller
It’s a bit complicated, I’ve figured out the analogue sticks navigate the systems and games collections, I guess it’s just a matter of figuring it out. This video is great and really helped me out, are you planning on doing any more coinops?

I’ve convinced my son to give it a go as well, he played the latest armoured core on pc and found out there was a build for the AC series, so he’s playing that now and loves it, only thing we could use some guidance on is the emulator settings for the PlayStation systems to get the most optimal performance and gameplay.
Are you using this for an arcade? I have another set up as an arcade and I have a shutdown that basically is re-wiring the PC power button to my new shutdown button
You would have to re-program the BACK or ESC button on each emulator. I haven’t tried Series X controller but Microsoft controllers are supposed to be the easiest to use
@@richieace5492 let me ask another question...so 3ds is on ther msdos joystick games msdos keyboard games doom project etc when i click the game it shows the boot icon if the game but then boots back into the games menu if that particular system ya think its a problem with retroarch!? And also some systems as i just said ull even click to go into the games menu from the front end and ityll boot back to the default front end screen and not go into the system waddya think that is?
Im assuming that if the particular system even had the games in it then itd atleast go to games menu but some just click in and go back to main menu maybe the emulators not setup? Or possible doesnt even have roms/isos in it
@@MiKeFish2012 yeah it sounds like the main menu front end has all the systems listed even though the system/games are not in the build. You could check the folder structure and see if the emulators are included for those systems. There is a way to remove them from the main menu. I would need to double check how I did it
If it’s not run by retroarch, then try going to the emulators official folder and look for Amiga emulator. Then run emulator in there and then change the controller settings. Give that a try
@@richieace5492 I tried as you said but the changes I make in WINUAE are not then saved and used by Coinops during the game ..... in fact the gamepad is not recognized 😫
If could be the console is not using retroarch. F1 is for retroarch and Tab is for Mame. You could go to the emulator in the folders and just run it and set up controls there
you first would need to click on defaultcontrolsunlocked.bat file this will let you keep the new configurations. it will auro-save them after you configure it
Hi. I can't set up the Arcade racing games (Out Run, Ridge Racer...) to play with Keyboard. How can I assign the "CTRL" key, or any other, as the pedal? In "normal" MAME it is very easy: I assign "CTRL" as "Gas Pedal Analog (Inc)". But I try do do the same in CoinOps, and it never works, although I've tried everything, LEFT and RIGHT seems to work fine, but not the pedal, so my car never starts up. Thanks!
After you start a game, press TAB on keyboard and you will get the Mame menu. You can set the buttons there. Also did you try pressing shift or A, S, etc. those are the default buttons for Mame
@@richieace5492 I knew it was with "TAB". What I didn't know and I figured out is that I should assign "Gas Pedal Analog Inc" but not "Gas Pedal Analog" and "Gas Pedal Analog Dec". They should be set as "None". Thanks anyway

@@MiKeFish2012 if you are missing cover art for a certain system (let’s say Dreamcast for example) you could download a Dreamcast pack then just copy the artwork into your build. It’s going to be a huge file which sucks because you just want the artwork but that would be a simple way of getting it.
How do you know the function of the button when assigning it a key? Example: screen just says button 1 how do I know that it is punch or kick in the game? Also there are so many options and it appears not all are even used. Do you know or know of any references to help understand? Thanks in advance.
Basically if you are using a 6 button fight stick or controller just set up buttons in order. Depending on the game you will use all 6 or just the first two button, etc. but for Mortal Kombat is tricky because of the block and run button. That game you have to set up as “this game only” specific controls. Right it down and configure
I have setup up my arcade 1up with ipac2 I have coin ops I can set up joysticks and buttons when In game but I can't navigate the system to play the games and exit my joysticks work but buttons don't I can't enter any game with out using a keyboard or Xbox pad
Yeah that’s the one thing the program needs. Currently there is no settings that let you change the navigation on the menus. But your joysticks and button should be recognized by Windows and default a button to start the game. I run another set up with joysticks and button and use a USB encoder to plug it all with my PC. It recognizes both player 1 and player 2.
I got this build and it only has arcade games. All the other emulators do have and games. Do you know why? I also added a game to the nes and tried the f1 thing and it doesnt go anywhere.
Yeah it’s only arcade games. But you can add packs. If you want to add nes game, make sure there is the nes emulator. If you get the packs it comes with emulator, games, and artwork

To assign controls using Retroarch, in the mapping menu you have to pick for example button 1 then it asks you to pick which button you want it to be. Not necessary like you are saying pressing your controller you have to assign the button on the menu and designate what you want it to be. When you have your controller plugged in it detects which controller you are using then you choose the button assignments…..see my video at 7:16
Thank you Richie, the issue is that I’m not using a gampad. I’m using a controller that is mapped as a keyboard. So I need to be able to assign the retroarch buttons to specific keyboard keys, how do I do that?
@@justintheparkenator when assigning buttons on the left side does it recognize your keyboard gamepad? then on the right side you assign each button. In my video at 8:25 you can see my Mayflash fight stick is detected in the left side. Check if your is detected
No unfortunately it does not recognize as a gamepad. So I need to be able to manually assign each button to a specific keyboard letter. Is there a way to do that?

Your PC with those specs will be able to run it. In my video I have a Dell i5 12gb ram and everything works fine even games like Daytona USA and Tekken Tag Tournament. Try pressing the shift button or control button on your keyboard to start. And after the game loads press “5” to insert coin and press “1” to start player 1
Hey Richie, is there a way to get some kind of config for 2 custom controllers? Every time i load it with custom controllers, it won't start up a lot of games, not allowing me to get into the config for the controls. They only load with keyboard and no controllers/custom controls connected.
sorry missed your message. Did you check to see if you set the two coins and start buttons for each controller. Try setting all controls as general so it can globally change for all the games
I have problems with some emulators, Playstation 1, Dreamcast, PSP, within the game when pressing select the game closes, how can I solve it, select + start button closes the game normally
@richieace5492 everytime I use it I have to switch 4th screen as the main. But it's getting 2 be a pain in the butt lol. I use the 4th screen for my light gun coin op build

I have street fighter arcade 1 up with gold plus and max I can setup sticks and buttons in game and set hot heys but I can't navigate the normal system like enter the games with buttons
@@-Jamie are you using a USB encoder to plug the buttons and joystick to the PC? That’s how I have my arcade 1 up set up. I have a video of it. Windows should recognize Player 1 and Player 2. And the unfortunate thing is there is no settings to program the navigation
I need this kind of tutorial but for CoinOPS Arcade Gold plus which uses more than 1 emulator, so I want to know how to change controls for all of them to work with my arcade buttons and zerodelay thingy.
Haven’t tried that version of CoinOps but they all have similar folder structure maybe they add one or two new folders but most part is similar. If you’re using different emulator you can try finding the emulator in your folder and running it. Go to the settings within the emulator to set up controls.
When trying to play dreamcast and other console, the picture is only on the top left corner of the "tv screen" so the picture is cut off.... Tried to change display setting in retoarch without any luck. Can anyone help me?
First check which is the emulator that is running Dreamcast. If it is retroarch running, change video setting but then make sure to change and save core override. Any changes you do you need to save the core override.

If you downloaded the smallest build (Stand-alone) it doesn’t have that much stuff or emulators. Even though the main page shows all of them. This sounds like the issue your having and why it’s not starting the emulators. Check the emulators folder to see what all you have
Hello, I have problems with the ppsspp emulator, when I press the select button the game closes, how can I modify this configuration, like Mame's games, when pressing select+start buttons the game closes
Check the “emulator official” folder and look for the Dolphin emulator. Click on it to run it then go into settings to set up controller. Some consoles you have to set up controller by running the emulator itself
Do the files packs has to be all one by one unzipped or is it sufficent to unzip the first rar pack? It seems they all have the same files so could save some time unzipping...
@@granitsheremetaj5371 yes you can use the packs and combine them to one CoinOps just make sure the files are in the right folders. To start up directly into CoinOps you have to place a shortcut under the start up folder in your PC.
I haven’t tried GameCube yet. Does your player 2 work on the other console emulators? I would make sure the player 2 controller is recognized on the PC then try setting it up on GameCube
@@richieace5492 that worked. I’m using an at canes legend pro. I’m trying to play X-Men I set the buttons and it doesn’t recognize the second stick. It actually moves both p1 and p2 with control stick 1.
@@5elect5creen there may be a setting that enables P1 to control all players. Try checking for that. The Atgames Legends Pro is a different CoinOps setup so can't pin point you where to check but hopefully you can find a similar setting
CoinOps only runs on PC…. the real old versions of CoinOps ran on original Xbox and there is also CoinOps X that runs on Legends Ultimate. All the new versions run on PC
@@richieace5492 had an old pc and didnt know if could handle windous + emulator... i tried for a week with batocera but rom pack are hard to get and setup... coinops its realy easy, found a windows lite and it works like a charm, thank you !

Did you add the games yourself? you would need to make sure the video file matches the name of the games exactly

Yes if it’s the first time using the fight sticks. You only need to do it one time.

On my Arcade 1 up machine I use a 2 player setup with 2 usb encoders. I run CoinOPs Arcadia on the PC I have in the arcade and have no issues.

Yes all versions of CoinOps are very similar. The folder directory is similar.

No built-in scrapper for CoinOps. But you can find builds. Arcade Punks

Question to change the scanlines in the config does double clicking on them make the changes and does double clicking changes them back
To change the scanlines back look for a disable scanlines or no scanlines in the config

you need any more buttons than 6 action buttons, and 2 more for start and coin?
Yes also an “exit” button. Or you would have to use your keyboard “esc” button
I instaled and my home made controler with zero delay works, ONLY need a esc Button. Thanks

@@-Jamie are you using a USB encoder to plug the buttons and joystick to the PC? That’s how I have my arcade 1 up set up. I have a video of it. Windows should recognize Player 1 and Player 2. And the unfortunate thing is there is no settings to program the navigation

I need this kind of tutorial but for CoinOPS Arcade Gold plus which uses more than 1 emulator, so I want to know how to change controls for all of them to work with my arcade buttons and zerodelay thingy.
Haven’t tried that version of CoinOps but they all have similar folder structure maybe they add one or two new folders but most part is similar. If you’re using different emulator you can try finding the emulator in your folder and running it. Go to the settings within the emulator to set up controls.
@@richieace5492 yeap that is true, but Arcade GOLD + for example uses few emulators, ps3, mame are easy to configure, but some aren't at all
TAB does nothing on my set up????? What should i.do?
When trying to play dreamcast and other console, the picture is only on the top left corner of the "tv screen" so the picture is cut off.... Tried to change display setting in retoarch without any luck. Can anyone help me?
First check which is the emulator that is running Dreamcast. If it is retroarch running, change video setting but then make sure to change and save core override. Any changes you do you need to save the core override.

There is no setting for that. I think it’s a script file that needs to change not sure

If you downloaded the smallest build (Stand-alone) it doesn’t have that much stuff or emulators. Even though the main page shows all of them. This sounds like the issue your having and why it’s not starting the emulators. Check the emulators folder to see what all you have

For PSSSP you have to go into the emulator folder and open PSSP and run it. Then go to setting in the program and change start and select there

Check the “emulator official” folder and look for the Dolphin emulator. Click on it to run it then go into settings to set up controller. Some consoles you have to set up controller by running the emulator itself
Do the files packs has to be all one by one unzipped or is it sufficent to unzip the first rar pack? It seems they all have the same files so could save some time unzipping...
Start with the first rar file. It maybe either .00 or .01. Then they will all inrar by themselves

@@granitsheremetaj5371 yes you can use the packs and combine them to one CoinOps just make sure the files are in the right folders. To start up directly into CoinOps you have to place a shortcut under the start up folder in your PC.

Can you make a video on how to setup a ps4 or Xbox controller on gamecube emulator, player 1 works but player 2 doesn't respond.
I haven’t tried GameCube yet. Does your player 2 work on the other console emulators? I would make sure the player 2 controller is recognized on the PC then try setting it up on GameCube
@@richieace5492 yes, my player 2 remote works for other emulators, it's just this emulator, I just can't figure it out

How do you clear inputs if you accidentally put in the wrong input.
Try again but don’t input anything….After a few seconds press escape on the keyboard. It will clear them and show as none.
@@richieace5492 that worked. I’m using an at canes legend pro. I’m trying to play X-Men I set the buttons and it doesn’t recognize the second stick. It actually moves both p1 and p2 with control stick 1.
@@5elect5creen there may be a setting that enables P1 to control all players. Try checking for that. The Atgames Legends Pro is a different CoinOps setup so can't pin point you where to check but hopefully you can find a similar setting

do you mean 16:9 full screen? the emulator may have a stretch setting. I can look into it.

Not sure for consoles, I’m thinking it will just be the same controller inputs having to be the same for the wheel.

unfortunately there is no front end mapping. It should automatically detect the up down left right using any fight stick, or controller.
You'd have to use a remapper on the PC itself
The tab key will not get to the general controls. The tab key does nothing.
The Tab key only works after you select a game. It’s for Arcade games only using Mame Emulator.

CoinOps only runs on PC…. the real old versions of CoinOps ran on original Xbox and there is also CoinOps X that runs on Legends Ultimate. All the new versions run on PC
@@richieace5492 had an old pc and didnt know if could handle windous + emulator... i tried for a week with batocera but rom pack are hard to get and setup... coinops its realy easy, found a windows lite and it works like a charm, thank you !
