    I was a young woman when GFR were popular, and I heard a lot of their hits played on the radio back in the day.-- but I NEVER heard this one until about a month ago! This is the most intense, passionate, energetic live performance I've ever seen. These guys were ALL under the age of 21 when they performed this. I am certain I will be dead before another live performance tops this one.

    Farner is a pioneer and a legend.. very few Americans were experimenting with distortion and the wah pedal at the time.. HIT AFTER HIT... THE PEOPLES BAND..

    You lift the left hand fingers up from the fretboard, mute the string with your left hand, and keep picking with the right hand to get that percussive "chicka-chicka" sound.

    Can't say how many times we saw GFR being from Detroit. Always a party. Mark Farner(singer) always 100% put out. They new how to jam! Loved them then, still do!

    GFR was PURE FIRE !! They left their souls on the stage, EVERYTIME !! It's a sin they are not in the R&R HOF !!

    Mark has been one of my neighbors for 30 some years. He is as kind and down to earth family man as he is talented. I do not give my admiration or comments lightly and I admire Mark greatly. He is also one of my guitar playing inspirations.
    Mark just recently booked a show at our local casino and it sold out in under thirty minutes. Was working in the garage came in and the wife says Mark's doing a show at the casino. Shot for my phone to call for tickets and she says it sold out 🤯 🥺 I was hoping he would maybe book a second show. Told him I would keep his mailbox shoveled out this winter if he did. ✌
    P.S. Mark was 19yrs old when this was recorded. He is 73 now and still kicks it on stage like he is still 19.

    "Footstompin' Music" and "I'm Your Captain/Closer To Home" are a couple more excellent songs of theirs.

    Strumming over strings that are muted by the left hand makes that scratching sound

    They had some hits. 'American Band' got a lot of play, and of course 'I'm Your Captain', but he sings the shit out of 'Some Kind of Wonderful'.

    Thanks for the posting. I am GFR fan from high school in 1970. You can't really go wrong with anything you want to listen to . Based on the time frame of the video you showed, I would recommend their first double live album. It rocks.

    Tis what happens when u put it all out n let ur music do the talking! Musicians today..too worried bout criticism n reviews which handicaps their TRUE potential. Am of that era. 🙋❤ur reaction.

    Everyone gets blown away when Mark pulls out that Harmonica. What a cool performance . Try Live in 74'

    Mark Farners brother was my gym teacher in high school and my wife's gym Teacher was George the animal steele. Lol wtf

  • @twwtjohns
    @twwtjohns 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is a cover of an Animal's song from a few years earlier. It was a big concert hit for Grand Funk but didn't get a great deal of radio airplay. This performance was for a few dozen radio execs and some A&R people as they decided how to market the band for their upcoming tour. Speaking of Led Zeppelin, Grand Funk Railroad was was to open for Zeppelin their 1970 tour but only made it two shows before Zeppelin's manager Peter Grant decided his band wasn't good enough to follow Grand Funk and kicked them off the tour.

    Just like old times Weaboo... Talking over 90% of the songs, and always more interested in his own comments and thoughts than in the actual stuff he´s watching.

    The sound he gets I believe is from playing up close to the fret. Usually players are an inch or more away. Imo

    Bro, You CAN react to Zeppelin! But next for Grand Funk... I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home live is definitely a banger! As for Zep, the best is Since I been Loving You at Madison Square Garden. Good luck with that and with your channel.

    GREAT raw, testosterone-laden performance. Never have seen a better live performance in my life! I'm pretty sure Mark Farner had to have a vocal-chord transplant after this!

    They were 19 and 20 when they did this. 50 + years later they still tour. I've seen them 3x in last 4 years. They are good but would be great if mark was still with them. They sold out Shea stadium faster than the Beatles.

    When Led Zeppelin toured the United States they hired Grand Funk to open for them. The crowds like Grand Funk better than Led Zeppelin. The manager of Led Zeppelin literally pulled the plug on Grand Funk during one of their performances to shut off their sound. The manager fired Grand Funk Railroad from the rest of the tour.

    You should pause while reacting so we can actually hear what you're saying and you don't miss bits and pieces of the performance. We can listen to the song anytime and I couldn't make out a lot of what you were saying. At least I could see you enjoyed it.

    React to Heartbreaker live in 1974. Grand Funk Railroad

  • @danielbritton8588
    @danielbritton8588 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lightly laying your fingers across the strings of a guitar kills any tone or ring out of a string. This makes a scratch sound from the pick. Or if you are into Jeff Beck, finger. He doesn't use a pick.

    Not gonna lie. It's been a while since I've watched some Weaboo, but I'm back for this one! Another good song to react to by GFR is Heartbreaker. Here is the live version I like best th-cam.com/video/21_yRb7qYNE/w-d-xo.html

    • @skydogfan4671
      @skydogfan4671 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      GalegHelross is right. Heartbreaker live by them should be your next Grand Funk Railroad reaction. This is a great band. Mark Farner is my favorite front man - great voice, plays organ, plays harmonica, wrote and sang the majority of their songs and a really good guitar player. He also has a great stage presence.
