    Used Aldi all the time in Germany. The coin-release shopping cart is way overdue in the US! It is a pet peeve to see lazy people leave their carts in parking spaces (or in one case, behind MY car, three feet in front of me as I returned to it, where I was parked next to a cart return bin, instead of walking a few extra steps to return it properly.) The gentleman in me prevented my putting the cart behind her car as she got in.

      Most large supermarket chains in Australia(including Aldi and Costco) have been doing coin release trolleys here now for years. Most states have also banned plastics shopping bags. Mine did it 8 years ago. Aldi Australia only sell reusable cloth bags made from recycled paper for this reason.

      Many of the supermarkets in Japan use the coin carts also. First time I saw them was in Japan, and thought it was a great idea.

    I love Aldi my husband and I shop Aldi twice a month every month and sometimes even in between. Their non food items are terrific too. Wow I have saved so much money there and have bought so many wonderful good kitchen items as well as food, slippers, storage containers, skillets, small appliances. all at bargain prices. I love their meat. Aldi is a great store and a fun shopping experience. You really save money.

    My wife and I go to ALDI about once per week...its about a 20 minute drive for us. We only eat Organic and Non-GMO food, and we are really liking the fact that ALDI has Organic food, and it's CHEAP! Organic soup, milk, bread, corn chips, hamburger, Mexican shredded cheese, taco seasoning, taco shells, Juices, granola bars, cereal, maple syrup, spaghetti noodles and sauce, frozen blueberries, strawberries, strawberry fruit bars "popsicles", Yogurt, sugar and brown sugar, coconut oil, spices, canned tomatoes, kids fruit snacks, bagged popcorn, olive oil, carrots, apples, bananas etc etc

    I always keep lots of jute and nylon reusable shopping bags in my trunk and never use a cart. My rule: I fill up the bags and I'm done. If I cant' carry the groceries, I bought too much for two people. :D Only exception: if we have to stock up on water and canned goods for hurricane season, then I take hubby and use a cart.
    They opened one in my neighborhood this past spring and we really love the savings and how quickly we go IN and OUT. I enjoy some of the LiveGFree options and the low prices on meats/poultry. The produce kind of makes me not so happy in terms of selection and quality sometimes, so I go to a nearby Farmer's Market to get the abundance of veggies I need for the week. Though I do appreciate when they have special sales on pricey fruits like cherries.
    Thanks.

    Another reason Aldi uses the pay a quarter to rent the cart is that it also prevents some folks from actually stealing a cart. Did you realize the average price to buy new shopping carts, or a trolley cost $1500. per cart. That is for a cheap one. Aldi buys a better line cart because they are outdoors most of the time. Where I live, one person begins the pass it on to the next costumer. We give our carts to someone who has just arrived to do their shopping. Always starts the day with a happy time as well. So share folks. Most of us can give a quarter away once in a while.

    • @rcubed888
      @rcubed888 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      "Another reason"? What was the first reason, if not to prevent theft? That's why they're chained together.

    • @BrightStar717
      @BrightStar717 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Robert R the first reason was to save money by not having staff that collects and moves shopping carts.

    • @OCWatchCatMEOW
      @OCWatchCatMEOW 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a stupid idea. 1) No one remembers to carry a quarter so what is the alternative? 2) You think bums don't have a quarter to steal a shopping cart? 3) Do you actually think I'm going to waste my time bringing the cart back to get my quarter? No! It's going to stay in the parking lot with the quarter in it so the bums not only get a free shopping cart, but also 25 cents if they want to return it. Sounds like a good after school job for kids: find Aldi shopping carts. Well, we have a Stater Brothers right across the street so why would I bother going through all of that hassle to shop? HELL NO! Can't wait to see how many Aldi shopping carts are laying around my neighborhood when they move in to Buena Park, CA soon! Their new store coming soon will never last on the corner of Valley View and Ball Rd in Buena Park, CA. I am still giving the video creator a THUMB'S UP for the video as it is very educational and she is not to blame for Aldi's stupid practices.

    I've been shopping aldi for about 16 yrs. My granddaughter loves their chicken fingers infact she will not eat anyone elses. I love their different cheeses. Had one with apple added to it & ate the whole thing. Best prices on their pecans too. I'm going to make stuff peppers & put them in my slow cooker.What I spend at aldi I go home with 7-9 bags. Regular store it would only get me maybe 4-5 bags.I love the recipes you can get on line too. I'm crazy about fruit & their prices are unbelievable. Right now their pumpkins are $2.49/each. That's $1.51 cheaper than everyone in my town. I bought 7 for Halloween for Thanksgiving decoration & pies.So much to say but best way to find out about aldi is visit one. You will get hooked.One mor thing I bought a set of sheets their I just love them. They are so soft & my cat (Bobert ) my dog (Miss. Elsa)rolls up in them.Sorry for taking so long but you really have to check ALDI out.

    Another thing abut Aldi,they donate their extra food to our church to give away to the needy in our neighborhood,they are not the only ones,but some of the other stores are switching to selling their produce to make compost,which is also good,but I find helping our neighbors is better.

    Thank you. Great video. I started watching another video before I saw yours, but had to stop. She only showed pictures of her face, little of products. She said to read labels, like this we never heard this before?
    But you showed newbies the practical stuff, like how to get the carts with your quarter, and how to get your quarter back. You showed those three lines of Aldi products, and the organic foods. You gave me the basics for my first venture to aldi's tomorrow. Very practical and helpful. Thanks.

  • @lindseybsmith
    @lindseybsmith 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great video! You forgot to mention one of the main reasons why I have Aldi's a chance in the first place: money back guarantee!!!! Some products even have DOUBLE your money back guarantee! When you but most of the Aldi brand products, look on the package, most have this money back guarantee in it....if you don't like the product, being the package back with your receipt and you get your $$ back! To my surprise, I have only done this twice. We didn't like the taste of the mayo...no problem, $$ back. I forget what the other product was. Also, as a busy mom, I like that my choices are limited. You need ketchup? They have a choice of 2, not 33 choices of brands, size, all the math you have to do to figure out which is the best bargain. At Aldi, you go in, pick up your stuff and GO! No wasting time searching for stuff, trying to figure out which brand/size is best....ugh. Aldi saves me TIME & we actually now prefer some of their products over the name brands!

    Another suggestion: Get the Aldi app for your phone. You can see what's on sale for not only the current week but the following week as well (allowing you to plan ahead-especially helpful for the limited supply items). Yes they do have the paper flyers at the store but the app is faster not to mention cheaper.

    One more thing I was buying canned goods at my other grocery chain and thought it was a bargain to get ten for ten...but later saw the same canned goods at Aldi in their brand for 49 cents to 69 cents depending...So I bought one of each at that price to compare. Each one looked the same, tasted the same as the name brand no difference in taste, looks or quality at all the only difference was the cheaper price. When you think 49 cents compared to a dollar that is a big savings.

    It took me a while to shop at Aldi's. I didn't like the long cashier lines, low staffing, and cash only policy. Now they allow debit cards and are bringing in affordable organics, I've tried many of their own brands, and I plan ahead by bringing a quarter for the shopping cart so it's a much better experience. AND saves me some serious fresh produce money. GREAT video intro! Thanks.

      Kathy Dawson...school is supposed to have accomplished teaching the basic principles of daily life living . But school doesn't teach what it should. Grocery shopping is something most high school grads are failing at and its costing them way more than 20 bucks per month. You are truly better off getting free advice from a homeless person about how to feed yourself efficiently than most private high schools who just teach you how to be an employee. Think about who taught you the most so far and what you paid learn it. The best educators in life are free and no high school will tell you this. They are a for profit business.

    I have noticed that many (but not all) Aldi products taste just as good (or even BETTER) as the major brands, but they're considerably lower priced. Some of the items I always get at Aldi's these days are 2% milk, their Burman version of "Miracle Whip" (tastes the same as Kraft's Miracle Whip, but much cheaper), the Tuscan Garden brand of salad dressings (everything I've tried is superior to the name brands and only $0.89 for a 16 ounce bottle), their chicken leg quarters, their pie crusts, their frozen tilapia fillets, their pasta, olives, and even their soft drink equivalents, to name a few items usually on my shopping list. I can easily see why they're a growing store chain in the US.

    I like going Aldi because its quiet and not crowded. Lots of people walk in looking around and then walk out because they don't recognize any products that they're used to buying. It took me awhile and alot of googling. People realize the colors of the boxes and packages looks familiar but not the name on these packages. For example millsville = General Mills.. For half the price. Burman's mayonnaise is Hellman's mayonnaise for 1.75 vs 4.00 from wmart. Taste like butter is I can't believe it's not butter when u see name brand like Tide look for Aldi's brand same color similar packaging same product but half the price or lower. We all love Bush's Baked Beans in the big cans go to Aldi's and that's exactly what you're buying at a fraction of the price. From soup to tuna. Who don't like Kraft macaroni and cheese I like it even better now at a fraction of the price. When people catch on that they're not buying generic the place is going to be crowded then what am I going to do

    I specifically shop at Aldi because of the snack options: dried fruit, nuts and sweet potato chips. I like the cheeses and the new luncheon meats that are minimally processed. Milk prices are phenomenal and I can bet a bag of pre-cooked grill chicken for $5.49 USD. The only thing I dislike about Aldi is its produce. I've seen mold run amok on fruits and when I tell the staff, they just shrug and say, "We'll take care of it." Otherwise, a great store.

    All of the food in Aldi is delicious and very cheap.
    I love Aldi!!!
    I Shop there several Times per month i stopped shopping at my local supermarkets years ago due to their greed and over priced named brand garbage .
    Aldi branded items are far more superior their Brown Sauce for example Aldi Bramwells Brown Sauce beats Heinz or HP in every way possible ,
    another example Aldi Brannans' Smoked Bacon not sitting in a watered horrid disgusting solution to make it weigh more like every other named branded "Irish' or UK Bacon and when cooked tastes amazing with Zero Crap additives like all the rest try it and tell me if i'm wrong please !!!
    In Ireland its €2 for a shopping Trolley [ Cart as You Yanks Call it ] which is returned as shown in the video , but a well known old trick is just bring a UK 2 Pence Coin next time it works same as a €2 coin i always keep several 2p UK Coins handy if i meet someone else that requires a shopping Trolley its only 2 pence but sharing is caring : ))
    i normally fill up around €60 or less with everything i need for a week or more ,
    Thats around €300 at my local supermarket for Branded name items that i neither need or want !!
    its some saving when i need to shop 2-3 times per month !!
    Aldi Dog food @ 39 cents [ Euro ] much better gives 2 meals unlike a Branded name 'Cesar' which gives 1 meal and costs 3 times as much !!
    i can go on and on ...but Aldi is superior is the bottom line ..LIDL i have tried but sadly they are much too over priced and greedy exactly like my local supermarkets i am not a millionaire or wealthy person so thats exactly why smart people are shopping @ Aldi ..Great honest Video and Thumbs up from me on it .

    0:53 - For some 20 years, this is how all ALDI stores are designed. All shoppers must go through the length of aisle-1, past snacks, candy, cereal, etc, before being able to see the two other aisles.
    In recent years, I have been in some ALDI stores that were converted from other stores, including former Bottom Dollar stores (Delhaize Group / Food Lion / Hannaford). These converted stores have more floor area, and a more open aisle design.

    Nearly all the stores offering trolleys in Australia use the coin system...even though they do hire trolley collectors. Over here the coin unit accepts one or two dollar coins. Smart people will buy a trolley token in-store which is the same size as a dollar coin, attaches to a key chain and can be used over and over again.
    Aussie Aldi stores offer the same variety as the US stores but they have twice weekly "super specials" which could be tools, furniture, home wares, white goods, tvs, appliances...etc... The quality is usually very good and the warranty is also good. Their tvs are quite popular in Australia selling under the "Bauhn" brand. You can buy a 65" UHD tv set for the equivalent of about US $550. That's pretty good!
    Aldi has a great policy of supporting manufacturers in the countries they operate in. So, regardless of the Aldi branding it's pretty obvious just who has made the box of cereal or the loaf of bread. Their meat is excellent and the fruit and vegetable area is okay but the range is limited compared to other bigger supermarkets. Aldi regularly does "comparison shopping" advertising here which shows how much you can save on the average bag of groceries between them and the larger chains. The savings are significant. Oh...the plastic bags here are 15 cents and there are no paper bags offered. Most people take along their own reusable bags or take empty cardboard boxes from bays in store. Plastic bags are about to banned here anyway.

    And most of the time you won't have to return your cart. You just "sell" it for a quarter to fellow customer who just parked next to you and is headed in.

    I have tried Aldi many times about 50% of their product we did not like. Their snack line is pretty good and some of their frozen choices ie veggies. I have gone back to my regular supermarket and find with careful choices I can save as much if not more. Brovo to all you guys that shop at Aldi but remember to each his own.

    Having a (spare) store basket (or 2, that you found somewhere!) in the car boot is convenient; simply swap your full basket/s and return the empty one each time - if questioned: play the green card ... have fun - you're welcome, good day 🤗

    Try the drink called Sebila....it is white grape juice based with floating bits of aloe in it. This drink is delicious and cost about 99 cent a bottle. The bottle is green and usually sets on the top shelf.

      Melica LoL I prefer my fabric reusable bags. 1) I can carry them in and bag in the a/c or heated store, depending on the time of year, and 2) I don't end up with a too-heavy box to haul inside. I use my bags at virtually all stores, not just Aldi.

      Yeah well unfortunately I'm disabled & live alone so its me taking 20 bags into store with a cart. I only pack up stuff into bags while in store in winter. Too cold out to load from cart into bags into car during winter but in summer I will. However I got 25 steps to carry all bags up into apt...no help...with bad heart n lungs. So I pull car as close to steps as possible...load from car to outside landing. Put car away around building. Then throw into 1st floor landing. Then shut door. Then I lug 1 or 2 bags at time with fridge stuff & I take those up 25 steps first n put away. Hopefully I had long enuf break so then I start again & drag (usually by then) lol, cupboard bags up stairs (or wait awhile depending how bad I feel)...& put them away. ANYONE WHO DOES NOT GO THROUGH THIS (AND WITH LAUNDRY IN & OUT & BACK AGAIN) WITH A BAD HEART N LUNGS SHOULD THANK THE LORD ABOVE OR KISS HUBBY N KIDS IF YOU GOT ONE/SOME!
      ..ITS A HARD LIFE! AND THATS WHEN I GOT MONEY TO GO TO ALDI'S! THANK GOD FOR ALDI'S OR I'D STARVE TO DEATH
      :) :) Thanks for reading...But yes it'd be awesome to have trunk things so everything don't end up ALL OVER MY TRUNK! Too expensive though. I'd rather eat. Sometimes we gotta choose. Ugh. Life! Glad for you though! Be blessed! :)

      shellyslioneyes Have you considered asking for a "shopping buddy" at your church or other source? You said money is a concern, but you might be able to pay a local pre-teen $3 or so to carry your bags up for you...shouldn't take him/her more than 5 minutes...that works out to a pretty good hourly rate, if they think about it. And, considering you're talking about 20 bags, I'm assuming you only do this once a month, so it wouldn't be that large an expense. I know there are organizations that offer assistance to the elderly/disabled who may be able to find/provide help for you. Good luck.

      shellyslioneyes I was thinking about what you said...you know a few free banana boxes or printer paper boxes would serve the same purpose as the plastic tote boxes the other poster mentioned.

    When a new Aldi opened near my mother, we waited a couple of days before going there, to avoid the rush. When we got there they were giving out free tokens for the shopping trolleys, so you don't need a coin, and the token is on a clip that you can put on your keyring. The tokens are $1.00 to buy in the shop. Mine is wearing out because I ONLY shop at ALDI.

    Hey Carol! big fan and long time watcher. I just have a few questions about the Aldi shopping experience in 2017. Has anything changed that one might need to know about? Also, I've been told they have $1.00 frozen pizzas...thats right ONLY a single Buck! My question would be do you think that pizza might taste okay in an oven? or would you suggest using something like the Presto Pizzaz to pizzaz that pizza up? thanks again Carol and remember. Don't be sleezy, Take it Cheesy!

    Hi i live in the uk and I have an aldi near me which has just been up graded. Now there are some things that they no longer sell in their own brand but have them in a more expensive brand which means I have to go elsewhere to get some things cheaper. Also ours does not sell pringles or kettle crisps (chips). So there are some good things and some bad things about aldi. I just have to shop around more now than I used to.

    Helpful video. When I shop at Aldi's, I also bring my own shopping bags. The thing I like least about Aldi's is that I have to be really hasty loading my bags after the items have been rung up by the cashier as there are always people waiting in line behind me and I don't want to hold things up while paying and finishing the bagging process. They need to hire more staff, I think.
