I have the slim tube Kilkerran 12 and love it. The first Compass Box Orchard House that I bought, I also made a connection to the Kilkerran so I bought a case of it. After getting through a few bottles of it, I noticed the sweetness and it started getting to me in an annoying way and I ended up blending it with other dry malts.
Campbeltown's Gold hit the shelves last week so 1st time in my life i bought 4 of them in 1hr in 1 day. Springbank 10 £50, Kilkerran 8 £46, Kilkerran 12 £48 and unexpectedly most expensive was Hazelburn 10 £52.99. Its a bargain! Now waiting for delivery. Happy days. Prices in America look really crazy now. Glad you got them John and nice to hear your thoughts. 😁🥃🙋♂️
I agree that I connected with the new Kilkerran 12 in a way I haven’t before with the distillery. I think the house style is really developing, and also think more age-stated maturity has really helped. Also, I’ve been having drams of this alongside the springbank 10, and I honestly have been going back and forth. The Kilkerran has (for me) some similar wild honey notes as the springbank, but it’s smokier, a little punchier, a bit more complicated. I rated the Kilkerran at 89, the springbank at 88, but it’s been fluctuating. Also, in my market Kilkerran is pricier and harder to find than the SB10, which is saying something.

@@justwhisky thanks, John. The Kilkerran 8 year old cask strength oloroso matured release is available at my specialty shop, but for a hefty price ($175 USD). I’d be curious to see your thoughts on that, as it sounds like you’ve collected a range of glengyle releases recently.
My friends and I did a blind tasting of Kilkerran 12 and Springbank 10 a few months ago. We couldn't tell the difference between the two!! If you're lucky enough to have booth bottles I'd definitely recommend you try a blind tasting. Both are wonderful whiskys.

I love this review, John. I have a SB 10 that I paid about $95 for last year, because I gave into the hype. There's no doubt it's quality stuff, but it's so overpriced. I don't think I can bring myself to buy a 10 or 12 year old anything at those prices. There are just so many other great drams out there at a better price point.
Kilkerran 12 is a winner in my book. I've gone through a couple of bottles in the past year and change and it never disappointed from start to halfway to the bottom fill level. What a dram. In light of all things Campbelltown and scarcity of the products, K12 is a great score if you get your hands on a bottle. I haven't lucked out getting a SB10 so I can't really say anything about it.
My affinity for Campbeltown stuff continues to rise. Very unique. And I’d drop $100 on either of those bottles. I think of it this way….A 50 ml pour, which I’ll enjoy for 1.5-2 hrs, costs me $6.67. Yes, please.
I always preferred Kilkerran to SB10 but these bottles are still next to impossible to get hold of over here. Until the flippers calm down I can live without it. Great review and comparison though 👍oh and who will be sub #1000? 😁
That’s extortionate! SB 10 can be $100 and up now. With that “logic “ K12 would fall in line with maybe $120, which for me is the very top limit. I’ve spent more on disappointing spirits.

Nice score! Good prices! Maybe H10 a little more$ because they make less of it and triple distilled? Just a guess? H10 is rare in the states.
