lol I remember this one not working at all in German (they still tried but it ended up kinda not being a joke at all, it's really weird) and I always wanted to know what the joke actually is, thanks to you I remembered and looked it up now. I knew I'd love the original joke xD
Tindall :3 I used that same joke on a different paley fest video on Aubrey Plaza. It seems to be a running theme that most actors are so insecure they can't talk properly
It's crazy how many gags this show has!! I love the fact that many of the funny situations don't last just for one episode, it gives a sense of... Reality.
Ice Cream Wasabi omg finally I found someone who like the swarley joke! 😂 “no no more no more swarlay! No swar..... wait for it lay no more *in Jamaican accent* bob swarley man! “ 😂
One underrated running gag was Marshalls love for his fish based stand up, only came up around 3 times in the whole show and spread out throughout random times. And also Robins but ums, hardly a running gag because after they mentioned it in the episode it was based around it was only mentioned once after I think.
I'm pretty sure Robin's but ums were written in several times. Nobody mentioned it, there was no laugh track, she was just talking, dropped a but um, then continued talking.
I love it when Neil starts running off after a calm evaluation of the situation and flails his arms while doing so. Like when he had to fight Doug or rann to find L&M sextape. Don't know if you can call this a running gag, but it happens from time to time and is hilarious.
I loved Gary Blauman appearing in so many office stories. The fact that he supposedly died after peeing on that table and then came back in pretty much every other story was hilarious and perfect for the show.
My favorites were "Have you met Ted" and "The blue french horn" So many i wanted to reoccur but they didn't. (Blitz, on the hook, the window, Barneys perfect pictures, nothing good after 2am, moist, etc.)
Lily often reused that phrase in different styles like when she sees her son Marvin coming to a Bar after he went to college and Lily is like YOU SON OF A ME!
83 was always my favorite running gag. It's just so funny to me that Barney always used that number in every statistic, date and basically any sentence involving numbers.
Barney not being able to use chopsticks has to be my favourite! That's something that started from season 1 and actually paid off with him actually being a master!
My favourites were: "Ted just...just okay" "Challenge accepted" "Come again for big fudge" "Thank you linas" "Suit up" "Pulling them off" "Nobody asked you patrice!!!"
I think my fav of the gags is the slap bets, those were just so hilarious when you watch it the first time and you expect it, and Marshall teasing Barney about it in the slapsgiving episodes that was incredible
But um I think your like forgetting like ROBIN SPARKLES that was totally a long running gag from season 2 like when the phone rang and lets go to the mall played and stuff
Ugh I literally just finished the show, I'm heartbroken because of both how the mother turned up and mostly that it just ended. I can never watch the show for the first time anymore but I'm glad I watched it. It has entered the list of shows that I love the every single bit of it. And my favourite gags were thank u linus, ted can you just... okay and son of a biiish
"fish are weird, right?"
“Ted! Just, just...okay?”
"come again for big fudge?"
I came
Judge Fudge
that "Just, just.okay?" always gets me tho hahahaha classic
@@tawnsipley9810 come again for judge fudge
Doctopus fudge supreme 😂
I wanted someone to bring up Barney’s recurring line, “Ted! Just, just...okay?”
TheMedicalReptile i use it more than I want to admit but no one ever gets the reference
Top 10 easy
TheMedicalReptile I LOVEEE THAT ONE
THANK YOU! was just about to comment that...
@@oliviadavis8032 Feels bad
I love Barney's "please" when they ask him about his job
So do I
'please' is his job
They pay it off too which was great
Raquel Lopez same
you sonofabeeech
the most underrated one, and my favourite is definitely ‘as a kid i was a bit of a detective’
It's my favorite too!
The mosby boys solved a lot of cases
Remember White such as the case of the missing retainer 😂
No
Cormac Donnelly what?
I love how Lily was always trying to get with Robin even when it had nothing to do with the situation they were in
"Officer.... Oh you know.... You KNOW..."
We should make out!! That would be SO stupid.
@@justinestes6400 it's stupid, i'm stupid
and then when she finally got it in the end, Lily’s like, “Ah, guess it didn’t really do much for me,” but Robin became really into it.
they also did that behind the scenes a few times :D
One of my favorites is Barney accepting challenges that were not challenges.
Challenge Accepted!
"Girl I'm gonna rock your world!”
My favourite challenge was "Challng accptd" 🤣🤣
My ALLTIME favorite running gag will ALWAYS be:
Barney telling Ted that he did not bang his mother and then winking immediately!
is this a running gag?
@@quantessenz yeah, he said it at least 4 or 5 times I think
Winking?
@@meganz020 yup, thanks
He didn't wink
How everyone in Canada remember the last thing they ate when Robin Sparkles died
Sugar powder donut on the way to school LMAO. True Hollywood story or whatever Canada version is called lol
The efford behind that one was great. All those guest appearances.
Which episode?
@@janaa29 Season 8 Episode 15, titled P.S. I love you

lol I remember this one not working at all in German (they still tried but it ended up kinda not being a joke at all, it's really weird) and I always wanted to know what the joke actually is, thanks to you I remembered and looked it up now. I knew I'd love the original joke xD
I do that all the time
Major Privateandgenearlthing *salutes*
i feel attacked
I've got too many: the red cowboy boots, 500 Miles, Marshall's freak outs, Ranjit - although I don't think he alone was a gag...
TheTsar1918 I love the 500 miles gag, it’s my ringtone now.
Ranjit is actually the #6 character in terms of episode appearance number behind the five main cast members.
Well ranjit saying “HELLOOOOO” could be one
I always listen to that song when I drive😂😂😂(i listen to other songs too but my brother nearly went insane after half an hour of only that song😂)
@@einflinkeswiesel2695 same! my mom and I drive the rest of the family crazy with it but I enjoy it so much
Take a shot every time he says "like"
Thanks, I'm dead now.
But ummm
But erm
Tindall :3 I used that same joke on a different paley fest video on Aubrey Plaza. It seems to be a running theme that most actors are so insecure they can't talk properly
I don't think that's humanly possible without dying. 'Literally'
Every blind high five between Lily and Marshall. I love them.
"oh my god, can you just be cool. Once. Please. Can you just once be cool. Please"
It's crazy how many gags this show has!! I love the fact that many of the funny situations don't last just for one episode, it gives a sense of... Reality.
I love when lily occasionally calling his son "you son of a me"
when they held hands at 0:53 my heart melted a little...
moneeraarabic Wait, are they dating in real life?
no! ahah
RJVlogs // Descendant no
it’s kind a weird that they did hold hand, but i guess since they did share so many years of work. It just felt naturally to them
RJVlogs // Descendant I wish lol
I loved Robin's hate for Patrice
SamanthaJackson NOBODY ASKED YOU PATRICE!!
poor Patrice, she tried so hard and she was a genuinely good person :D but at least Robin asked her to be a bridesmaid in return...
I personally hated it and I'm surprised people actually liked it. It was so mean spirited
Lmfao it was so mean but soooooo funny!!!
NOBODY ASKED YOU PATRICE !!
My ultime favorite is the swarley joke
Ice Cream Wasabi omg finally I found someone who like the swarley joke! 😂 “no no more no more swarlay! No swar..... wait for it lay no more *in Jamaican accent* bob swarley man! “ 😂
but thats not a running gag
Thats not a running gag thats a 1 episode joke
Narshall
Swarley was so damn funny
One underrated running gag was Marshalls love for his fish based stand up, only came up around 3 times in the whole show and spread out throughout random times. @@MinimiMax like, carp... *confused laugh*
the fish one is THE BEST
I'm pretty sure Robin's but ums were written in several times. Nobody mentioned it, there was no laugh track, she was just talking, dropped a but um, then continued talking.
Someone needs an intervention for all the ‘like’
If only that word could be banned.... I fully agree with you.
But um
I have no idea what he was trying to say.
I love it when Neil starts running off after a calm evaluation of the situation and flails his arms while doing so. Like when he had to fight Doug or rann to find L&M sextape. Don't know if you can call this a running gag, but it happens from time to time and is hilarious.
I love that too it’s really funny
The sandwich.. favorite of all time
And the perfectly named "Sandwich Police" car from Cape Cod to go with it on the fan page.
"Where's the poop?"
"I have only one rule:"
*Hypothetical high five*
"True story."
Lmao
I loved Gary Blauman appearing in so many office stories. The fact that he supposedly died after peeing on that table and then came back in pretty much every other story was hilarious and perfect for the show.
Because 83% of what barney said are basically lies.
Ranjit’s “HELLOOO” waving and smiling as someone entered the cab/limo always gets me
One of my favorite running gags is incorporating “Murder Train” throughout the series.
“Haaaaaave you met Ted?”, Slap Bet, and “Suit Up” are my personal favorites
I love the slap bets and how randomly someone would get slapped in the middle of an episode 😂
I loved how Robin " the canadian" was always misunderstood 😂
I love how Alyson doesn't feel like Lily here at all, but Josh and Neil are just like Ted and Barney
My favorites were "Have you met Ted" and "The blue french horn"
So many i wanted to reoccur but they didn't. (Blitz, on the hook, the window, Barneys perfect pictures, nothing good after 2am, moist, etc.)
Swarley!!!
U mean "Haaaaaave youmetTed"
And: CHALLENGE ACCEPTED
Moist and Barney's perfect pictures did occur at least twice I think.
The Gentleman
I was waiting for but um and youuu sonofabeeeeech
JollyRancher I think those qualify as catch phrases, not running gags
Lily often reused that phrase in different styles like when she sees her son Marvin coming to a Bar after he went to college and Lily is like YOU SON OF A ME!
please
challange accepted
but um
general thing
swarly
ted just, just okay
cowboy boots

83 was always my favorite running gag. It's just so funny to me that Barney always used that number in every statistic, date and basically any sentence involving numbers.
Yeah it's in 83% of the episodes.
Best running gags are the high fives and hey yos
TED .. JUST , JUST ....... OKAYYYY
I will never forgive how this show made me feel for Robin and Barney
"Just, just... okay" is my favorite
"Nobody asked YOU HERE PATRICCCCCEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Drinking Game: a shot for everytime Carter Bays says like
But um
...best reoccurring element:
"Fake History Lessons"
Best Szene in the whole series:
"Ted & Barney wanna start a bar."
I love the „Swarley“-Gag 😂
I love the hidden "sandwichs" in the episode and how they're just eating them in random scenes
Alyson's not wrong -- the staking thing was pretty funny.
Aaaand, where is Barney/Neil?? And Marshall/Jason??
Emma V wait what staking thing?
Madeleine Martinez from Buffy, I'm guessing
But what does she says after ?
i think she said Thank you, Linus
Robin Sparkles
My favorite will always be the slap bet
The duckie tie!
Barney not being able to use chopsticks has to be my favourite! That's something that started from season 1 and actually paid off with him actually being a master!
My favorite is Murder Train song when someone is fighting 😂
I love all the different types of high fives Barney comes up with
My favourites were:
"Ted just...just okay"
"Challenge accepted"
"Come again for big fudge"
"Thank you linas"
"Suit up"
"Pulling them off"
"Nobody asked you patrice!!!"
My favorite was come again for big fudge... i just loved how all of them ended up using that
Stop saying like all the time!!!!!!
drink shots everytime they say 'like'
portialuvbrutus but um
and that guy is a writer? he can´t even talk
But um
It'sMeCecy writers write. They don’t talk. A lot of writers are kinda shy and awkward but hilarious on paper
Underrated one: "HOW DARE YOU?! And WHAT IS THAT?!"
I also looove those interventions :D :D
I think my fav of the gags is the slap bets, those were just so hilarious when you watch it the first time and you expect it, and Marshall teasing Barney about it in the slapsgiving episodes that was incredible
I like the robot that always had to show up during Robin Sparkles related things, and Robin screaming at Patrice
my fav gag is that through the whole show barney could never use chopsticks
the slaps and major, general, corporal are the best ones
@1:36 writer has a "like" seizure. Rewatched it to count how many times he said it. I counted 13 in about 40 seconds.
Cobie n josh holding hands.. The awww moment for me😍
But um I think your like forgetting like ROBIN SPARKLES that was totally a long running gag from season 2 like when the phone rang and lets go to the mall played and stuff
He sure does say like alot...
*Glass shattering*
I...... like it.
The moment when ted and marchall are high and they are queueing at the rest room haha
I loved Weekend at Barney's
TANTRUM!!!
HOW DARE YOU ?!? ... AND WHAT IS THAT
You can have a hole segment on everyone’s favorite barney running gags he easily had the most
And i would walk 500 miles and i would walk 500 more (The music is so loud here)
I like when Barney says " Ted /Lily. ..can you just uh .....please "
My favs are the Interventions and Robin shouting at Patrice
Barney's inability to use chopsticks
Goddamn Allyson Hannigan. Just consistently smoking hot since Buffy onwards
I mean "Have you met Ted?" Game....
The bang bang song
Barney's suits
The playbook
'Challange accepted
"Have you met ... ?" Is my clear favorite with "sandwiches" just below that.
honestly i fucking loved barneys “it’s gonna be legen wait for it dary”
slapsgiving anyone?
It's not really a running gag, but the marshall vs the machines just killed me the two times xD
YESSS I was about to write "since no one mentioned it I will"
Upvoted for the "that staking thing was funny" part. it was definitely one of the funniest scenes on buffy!
allu5150 finally some Buffy appreciation :)
How I met your mother is the best sitcom, if not television show, of all time.
Honestly it really is. It’s up there with the Simpsons for me, even a little above 30 Rock.
I just adore and miss this show
I’m very disappointed that nobody brought up the pineapple incident. 9 seasons... and still no answer
Go watch the last episode again
Thank you Linus
Jaydove 🍸
I really like the doppelgangers and the jokes about Robin being Canadian
I don't think any other show has as many running gags as HIMYM
Ugh I literally just finished the show, I'm heartbroken because of both how the mother turned up and mostly that it just ended. I can never watch the show for the first time anymore but I'm glad I watched it. It has entered the list of shows that I love the every single bit of it. It’s got to be sandwiches. That was fantastic. I just loved all the censored stuff. “Uh kids, uncle Barney wasn’t saying kiss”
Barney's just.....okayy
Really cracks me up😂
My favourite running gags are Robin's news reports. Genius
“ you son of a bitch” was my favorite
When Ted grabbed robins hand, I was offended for Tracy for a split second
like, and like, like
Felipe Matos this could be a drinking game 😂
DID YOU KNOW SHE WAS A COOOOOOOOOP???
dont think it was the best BUT it is a good one
Mine are the blue french horn, and "hhhave you met ted."
The intervention banner is even funnier now I know how much they cost. I ended up just making my own out of bedsheets and red paint
CHALLENGE ACCEPTED
my favourite was major salute
It’s Robin Sparkles (Insert number between 2-4 here) y’all!
i loved the 500 miles joke
