Really interesting Leo, I hadn't realise there was so much to be accessed in Windy. Unfortunately with all the weather information available to us, it never seems to be as predicted when we go off sailing. Hopefully you slept well after making the video it looked like it was hard work given your expression at times👍
Hahaha, yeah its hard work but I slept well :) Yeah forecast are often quite wrong - but the more models you compare the better idea you get- as a rule off thumb : when forecast show just enough wind to sail its either going to be perfect or motoring. If forecast shows wind on the higher end - then its going to blow to much... sailing behind islands and in increased topography will be shit anyway ;) But out in the open things are mostly as forecasted
I REALLY enjoyed that and thought it was very useful and instructive! Hands up: I'm not a sailor but I do enjoy sailing videos. I tried Windy once, for all of 5 minutes and couldn't make head or tail of it - I was curious what the weather was like for a particular TH-cam channel some years ago. I suspect I was trying to avoid paying anything, or giving it an email address, or something. I shall try again and see what the weather is like for you, imo - would I try to head for Madeira today, tomorrow, next week? etc etc ...
Thanks Neil, very glad you enjoyed the video 😊 and if we where able to show you a few things that would be awesome! Windy is pretty great and for years they didn't had a paid version nor advertisements. Still I believe the free version has no ads and most functions easily accessible 😁
Hi Markus, that's a good question! Initially I tried with the HR342 and HR310 polars that are available, but from a first glance the speeds and tacking angles were a bit too good in my view for the HR352. So then I used the tool to calculate my polar and manipulated to be quite conservative and accunting for a tacking angle of around 50 degrees - which for our sails and experience is more realistice than 45. Anyway, need to understand the app better and test in real conditions - but for us it primarily important to have conservative polars and not overestimate our speed and tacking angles - We will perhaps make a more technical video once we feel confidence enough! Bis bald :)
@@sailingAGH thanks a lot. I am struggling too to find the right polars. If you ever have some news let me know, I will do the same. Fair Wind und viel Spaß.
Thanks!
You are very welcome :)

@@sailingAGH I shall look forward to playing with it tomorrow 😃
What polar values are you using. I could never find one for the HR352. Thanks und bis bald.
