Thank you so much for your videos! I took up crocheting to sooth my anxiety and most tutorials are fast, loud and confusing. Your voice and music are both gentle, your pace is perfect and you explain things clearly. I'm learning so much!
A very peaceful tutorial. Thank you so much. I was over here cursing like a sailor and was about to give up on this stuff but your peaceful, non-confusing video helped. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
Just found your channel, thank you for the great tutorial. I really appreciate the soothing & calming music which is very subtle and not jarring like so many others. Also your soft voice and great instruction truly make this a great video. Thank you so much💕
Your voice is very soothing and your video tutorials are perfect. I have sent some of my friends to your channel so they can learn the basics. Thank you for what you do.
Love this ... started a scarf but am working this pattern down the length rather than the width ... figured it would reduce the number of color changes and sewing in ends ... will also add some tassels to mask the ends from the color changes. Thanks for your instructions ... very helpful!
Thank you for posting this. I saw someone with a shawl done in this style and I was completely baffled as to how she had constructed it! Your explanation made a lot of sense.
If anyone is having trouble getting to the end of their SECOND row. You need to make the chain a multiple of 3+2, NOT 3+1. If you make it 3+1, your FIRST row of single crochets will be a multiple of 3, which will leave you with 2 stitches at the end of the row and NOT 3 like the tutorial says you should have. EXAMPLE: (Multiple of 3, 27+2 = 29)Chain 29, row 1 has 28 single crochets After discovering this, the pattern flowed properly.
Love this pattern. Will make this my next blanket. I like to do sets of 3 plus 4. Work into 4th chain from hook. It helps me so that it doesn't bunch. Still working on tension
Very nice and calm instructions.. So much easier listening to your calm sweet voice.. Nice stitch... Thank you for your instructions.. Will be making a blanket for my granddaughter...
She stated in the beginning a multiple of 3 stitches + 1 so, for example, 3x10=30 + 1 would be 31 stitches. You make it as long as you like with that in mind.
Thanks for the help! You saved my blanket! :) Also your videos are so soothing! I crochet to relax and calm down from hard days. So the vibe from the videos helps keep that feeling even when I'm learning! Thanks again! :D

Hello, I enjoy every video you have made. In the granny stripe stitch, you tell us to chain 2 at the end of the rows, but your instructions tell us chain 3. Can you please tell me which one is correct? Thanks you.
I chain 3, because this is a "double crochet" type of stitch (treble crochet for our UK friends!). I find that the 3 chains give me the proper height for the stitch.
Hi Mary am sorry for the introduction in your comment but I find you attractive and interesting❤🌹 I don't know if I could be your friend so we can get to know each other more and thank you👍
this is the best tutorial I have found. I am brand new to crochet and have been so frustrated trying to learn something other than a chain, lol...I want to start a baby blanket using this pattern. How long or how many chains should I begin with for a newborn blanket??
Hello and thank you for your soothing and calming videos. I have a question regarding your written instructions. You write "chain 3" when starting a new row, but in your video you show chain 2. Which is correct? Thank you again.
My stitches keep getting messed up. I follow the instructions but my stitches kept being off and I'll have two extra stitches instead. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.
Yes. It's however long/wide you want it. It's a multiple of the stitches for the repeating pattern. The '+ 2' is to account for how you transition/turn on the edges for each row. So if 36 stitches gave me about the width I wanted, I'd add 2, for 38 stitches. If I'm aiming more for about a 50 stitch width, then I'd leave it at 50 (48 + 2) or bump it up to 53 (51 + 2). Add 2 to ANY multiple of 3, and it will work for this pattern. How many stitches you'll actually need depends on what you want to make. Is it a scarf? An afghan? It will also depend on what direction you want the pattern to go. If you want to make a square afghan, the direction of the pattern isn't going to matter. But if you're doing a scarf - say about 8 inches wide by 36 inches long - then the direction of the pattern very much matters. Do you want the rows to be short, rather like her sample in this video? Or do want the rows to run the length of the scarf? Once you decide the size of your project and the direction you want the rows to travel (if applicable), how do you know how many stitches you'll need? That's a matter of your stitch pattern guage - which is determined by the guage of the yarn your using, the size of your needle, and the yarn tension you're using while making the stitches. That can all seem very complicated for a newbie. My recommendation: Crochet small sample like in the video. (Called a swatch.) This is going to help you practice how to crochet the granny stitch pattern while Also providing you with a sense of your stitch guage. So, start with a smallish multiple of 3 like 18, add the 2 for 20 stitches to start out. (This gives you a long enough row to start to get a feel for how to do the pattern.) Then follow her lead on how to do the granny stich. Don't worry about trying to switch colors - this swatch is only a sample to learn how to crochet the stich pattern and to find out how many stitches you're going to need for your actual project. Keep crocheting the swatch until you're starting to get a handle on the pattern - probably a few inches or more, depending on how much crochet experience you have and/or how easily it comes to you. Once you're feeling comfortable with the stitch and you're ready to actually start 'the project', measure about how long your rows are. They may vary a little bit, because an even yarn tension is hard to maintain when you're first starting out. It doesn't need to be a precise measurement if you're just making a scarf or afghan. Now, let's say that swatch measures about 6 inches wide. That means your stitch guage for the granny stitch with that yarn and that hook is about 20 stitches for every 6 inches. Now, you can apply that guage to your actual project. Let's say you want to make an afghan that's about 36 inches wide. Well, if 20 stitches gave you a 6 inch wide swatch, then you'll want to multiply your stitches by 6. So 120 stitches should give you about 36 inches. Excellent!! But don't forget the starting rule for this pattern is multiples of three PLUS two. 120 stitches is a multiple of 3, so you have to add 2 for a total of 122 stitches. Again, this is Only an example of how you can use a swatch to learn how to crochet the stitch and figure out how many stitches you're going to need for whatever you decide you want to make with this stitch. Square or rectangular projects like dishcloths, scarves, and afghans don't have to "fit" like clothing items, so they make better starter projects. Usually, when you're making a swatch to determine your guage, you have to take row height into consideration, too. But you don't have to really worry about that for a scraf, afghan, etc, because you're just going to keep repeating the rows until it's the size you want it to be. I hope all the above makes sense and is helpful. I may have referred to a needle instead of a hook above, but that's because I'm primarily a knitter, and I tend to think in terms of needles rather than hooks. 😆 But figuring out stitch guage and making swatches is totally the same process, knitting or crocheting, so just replace needle with hook anywhere I slipped up above. 😃 Happy hooking! 😊
Hi Pat am sorry for the introduction in your comment but I find you attractive and interesting🌹❤...... I don't know if I could be your friend so we can get to know each other more and thank you👍
Nice soothing voice and music but surely you wrap the hook around the yarn rather like wrapping yarn round hook with the left hand like continental knitting, can be confusing if you’re teaching someone or learning.
Start with a multiple of 3, then add one additional stitch. So, say you chained 33 stitches . 33 is a multiple of 3... or, say, 42, 45, 51, 57, 123... all of these are multiples of 3. I'm sure you already knew that, but these are just examples (if you aren't sure if your starting chain is a multiple of 3, just add all of the digits together... say you chained 57. 5+7=12... 12 is a multiple of 3, because now, adding the digits in 12... 1+2=3. 57 is a multiple of 3). Then, add one more chain stitch to end up with a "multiple of 3, plus one more". That little comma can help to clarify things, don't you agree? 🙂
@@DebraLyn67 Actually, as Malefacent said in another reply, it should be a multiple of 3, plus TWO extra stitches, not one. So, your chain of 183 is your multiple of 3. Make 2 more stitches for a total of 185, then turn and begin the second row. See the reply by Malefacent below for a more detailed explanation of why this works, rather than the 3+1 method. I also do 3+2 on the starting chain when I work this stitch, and it comes out just right.
@@meganmcgowan5798 Thank you for your response. I'm already halfway done with it now. lol. It is coming out fine. But I will try your method on the next one. Thanks again.
@@DebraLyn67 actually, I looked at her method again and where she says to chain a multiple of 3, then chain one more then turn and chain one, you actually end up with your multiple of 3 + 2 just like I do it. She just explained it a little bit differently.
Hi Jean am sorry for the introduction in your comment but I find you attractive and interesting❤❤....... I don't know if I could be your friend so we can get to know each other more and thank you👍
Hi, I liked part of your tutorial, but here are a few suggestions. Don't have color changes as part of a video demonstrating a new crochet stitch. It is very confusing to your viewer. Also, you forgot to mention the number of chain stitches you made at the beginning of your demonstration. Yes, we will be using a pattern that will no doubt mention how many chain stitches to begin with, but you should still mention how many chain stitches you are using in your example. Maybe the number of chains should be an even or odd number in order for this pattern stitch to work. If so, mention that. Finally, your voice is very soft and you drop your voice at the end of your sentences which means your viewer might not hear every word you just said. Also, when you are repeating instructions similar to the row before, you speak in a sing song that makes it difficult to follow what to do. Always speak clearly and do not drop your voice at the end of a sentence. And never give instructions in a sing song voice.

Do you know how many sets of 3+2 will need for a blanket?
Also, for sets of 3... is that always +2 or is that only per row? Thank you #Newbie

My stitches keep getting messed up. I follow the instructions but my stitches kept being off and I'll have two extra stitches instead. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.
maybe you didnt court your stiches.
Does anyone know exactly how many in the 1st row I'll need? Is it however long I want it?
