- With today's video I want to show you the magnificence of the Warsaw Royal castle, help you to understand the great history behind this amazing building and give you some practical tips on when best to go and what to see!

Brit in Poland is the genuine account of a British Expat who lives in Warsaw, through this account I want to show people what it is like to live abroad, to educate people about the country of Poland, to tell the history of Poland and to show off what this place has to offer, providing guides to locations I have visited and experiences I have taken part in.

If you're ever interested in readong Polish History so as to not get upset Poles correcting you about which King stands on which column, I recommend Count Adam Zamoyski's *Poland: a History*. It's one of those accessible, (relativeley) short summaries, written with the general public in mind rather than academics. Originally written in English, so there are no translation issues, easy to find online (including for free if you're feeling cheap) and the author is the direct descendant of one of renaissance Poland-Lithuania's most notable figures, so added glamour points for that, I guess.
Annoyingly I have this book already...but this faux pa tells me I need to reinvest my time in reading it 😬

1:29 Sigismund the III actually. And he wasn't great king to be honest.
The king was controversial to say the least. Religious zealot who weakened the parliament and dragged Poland into a war with Sweden, which eventually led to the demise of the first republic.
