Thank you for this lovely match with Mrs Evert-Lloyd and Dianne Fromholtz . I enjoy the way there 's no grunt, and they move on with it in total concentration and respect of each other. I notice they don't fuss with towels on the court, and they don't take from the ball-boys three or four balls before serving, just one or two, which gives the match its whole rythm . Today it seems players are much too spoilt and play the prima donnes, whereas here with Chrissie and Dianne it's serious and a lot of modesty and wonderful professionalism . Thanks a lot Brad !
Thank you so much for all your uploads. In my opinion Chris hit the ball harder during her 1976-1980 period, than she did in 1981, although she probably faster and fitter than ever before during the 81 season and was generally a tactically pretty aggressive player towards the end of 82. But if you compare her racketspeed and length from this match with any of 1983, with the good exception of the French final and the final of the Clairol Crown, where she was highly motivated due to some bad talking from Gadusek, she was hitting here with more confidence and with a generally harder drive! Fromholtz had many weapons and a beautiful modern looking forehand that really rifels through the ball, which defenitely shows that there was competition but Chris was simply sublime! Even Ruzici and Barker who like Fromholtz could really punish the ball with both wings on their very best, who could beat everybody else in the field including Austin and Navratilova or Mandlikova, couldn't beat Chris on this surface or on any other outdoor tournament.
good reply and true.. what evert lacked in power of her strokes she would state she made up for in quickness around the court, i suppose she would know, although looking at her groundstrokes it's highly debatable. she did seem to nail the ball harder different years and depending on the surface and the opponent.... and yes interesting that for example barker could give austin fits, even defeating her austin shortly after austin won that 1981 u.s. open playing indoors in the fall and yet? evert owned barker 22-1 and barker rarely won sets against evert and her 1 win against evert was in early 1979 when evert's mind and game were elsewhere in preparation for her wedding and the beginnings of her burn out... fromholtz was a tough match up for evert because she had weapons and her lefty-ness.. fromholtz had more wins against evert then barker and ruzici and the otehr "2nd tier" baseliners combined...
Evertfigured out bu 82 that giving certain players pace back fired on her. Fromholtz eats up pace and here mixes it up, hitting softly but deep begging fromholtz to nail it often creating an unforced error. Evert lost 5 x in a row to Austin because evert hit deep on every stroke right into Austin’s strike zone. Once Chris figured out that Austin’s strokes were different if you moved her around, up and back Tracy would tire and make errors. In 80 open semi Chris committed to changing her strategy of just being steady once 4-0 down on first set to win 4-6,6-1,6-1 and Tracy was never a threat to be ranked higher than Chris at year end ever again. Last match Chris won. 6-0,6-0
1979 was a cruel year for Chris. She lost to Austin for first time early winter, beat her in an excellent match t clairol crown then got married and took time off then lost Italian to Austin 7-6 in third on clay ending her 125match win streak on clay. Then she beat Martina at eastborne 13-11 only to lose Wimbledon final in two exactly same sets 5-2 down to lose both sets 6-4. She was never warmed up it seemed , but retina hit hard and low in this match. Then at Bergin., mahaw NJ beat Austin in 3 sets then loses to Austin playing half scared just hitting off her back foot standing often , afraid to drive the ball until 5-2 down , once again Chris’s pride kicked in with Tracy serving at 5-3 15-40. Chris returned a second serve in bottom of the net on her first break point. A wild error. And lost 6-3 and the title. The next year she beat Martina at W and Austin at the open to reclaim world number one for 1980,1981

Una inmensa alegría seguir viendo a esa jugadora estupenda Cris Everest
I so wish the game would return to wooden racquets
Would love to watch a match where Dianne played her best tennis.

Thank you for uploading these gems!!!
This was right after Tracy ended Chris's unbeaten streak on clay early in May at the Italian open.
Was a shame Tracy skipped the French that year, I think RG deserved one Evert v Austin final.

Chris loved the ball Diane hit to her. Solid, hard, predictable, Chris could use Diane’s pace to hit droppers or drives to any where on the court.
