    Hi David, I passed my PMP exam on 25 April 2024. I failed it on 7 February though I felt I know the content... I was emotionally down, wasn't sure what to study, which tests to purchase to practice. Your videos, what I watched for weeks day and night helped me to prepare both mentally for the exam and to know how to look at the questions through PMI eye for testing. Thankful for all your video, tutorial materials you share on youtube. Keep up helping the project manager community :)

      @davidmclachlanproject  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Congratulations on passing your exam! And thank you for the info, I will add steering committee to the course 🙂 It's usually just the group of executives or advisors overseeing your protect (and others). They might be funding your project and their areas might be impacted by your project, so they need to be kept informed. Things can also be escalated there as an absolute last resort. Thank you and congratulations again!

      @davidmclachlanproject  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Great observation! This guide is more Predictive, but many of the process steps are needed in Agile as well.
      We still need to gather requirements, define scope, break it down, estimate it, plan quality and risk and communication and cost. The way we do them changes slightly (e.g. Cost is often fixed and Scope is variable on an Agile project) but we still need to plan them.
      Very good insight! Quite advanced 😊

  • @jonathanstewart8997
    @jonathanstewart8997 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hi David,
    How is risk register a project document input for define scope when sequentially the risk register is an output of identify risks and comes later in the planning process group? It seems like a circular argument because the input for identify risks is the scope baseline.

    • @davidmclachlanproject
      @davidmclachlanproject  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      You are right, in that it is circular. It doesn't necessarily all go in a straight line. And on the first pass we might not use risks as an input, but as the project evolves we can 🙂

    There is an aspect to this that seems circular to me. When in the Initiating process of identifying stakeholders, how can the Communication Management Plan be an input when it is a Planning process, which comes after Initiation?
    And there are others. In the Planning stage, the first process for each Knowledge Group is "Plan [enter knowledge group name]," which are followed by the steps in planning for that group. How can Plan Schedule Management be a step in the Project Schedule Management group when the subsequent activities are the activities for planning the mangement? Defining activities, sequencing activities, estimating activity durations, and developing schedule ARE the steps for planning Schedule Management. What is there to "planning Schedule Management" that are not those things?
    In Communications Management, we have "Plan Communication Management" and no other steps in the Planning process. Sooo...if we know what to do to plan communication management without itemizing steps, why do we need to itemize steps in Schedule Management? Why is not equally sufficient to simply say "Plan Schedule Management" without further itemization?
    Maybe I'm speaking out of turn as I have only recently scheduled my exam, haven't sat for it yet. Perhaps, by the time I do sit for it, I'll better understand this; either that, or, once I'm a fully-fledged certified PMP, I might want to find a way to get more vocal/involved when it comes to revising future editions of the PMBoK.

    • @davidmclachlanproject
      @davidmclachlanproject  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Great comment. You are right, but it is by design. Sometimes it can be circular, sometimes parallel (at the same time). It is just described in sequence because I can't describe two things at the same time 🙂
      But yes, defining activities, estimating activities, etc, are all tasks we need to do to fill out our Schedule Management Plan. But we can still outline our schedule management PROCESS (how we will do all these things) first. And - we might come back later and adjust this process as well!

      @@davidmclachlanproject I appreciate your attentiveness and feedback. I actually do understand your reply. It reminded me of previous instructor's emphasis that the Project Management Plan can't really be done linearly, a lot of things happen concurrently as well as that no project can be managed by using everything in the PMBoK guide, as organizations and people simply do not all work the same way. This isn't about how it's written in stone, it's more about becoming conversant with all the available tools, and having the knowledge and wisdom to know which and when tools can be used to increase chances of success (and, this has been also somewhat of an attempt to apply the Feynman method, to explain something to others...um, kinda :-) Cheers, mate.
