I am a person that does my best to avoid social situations and crowds and big events and stuff. I went to one concert 11 years ago with a friend because it was his favorite band and he wanted me to come with. That said, I got out of my comfort zone and went to see Nightwish last night on this tour when they stopped in Denver. You guys are in for a real treat.

Nightwish came to Minneapolis this past Sunday, and there was no way I was going to miss it, even knowing it was an open floor venue and I’d be standing the entire time. For a 65+ guy, that ain’t no easy feat, but damn, it was worth every aching minute. As others have said, the production was cut way back, but the music was just as dynamic and just freaking fantastic. They opened with ‘Noise’, which is also a pretty good opener with a lot of energy. I also wanted to give a shout-out to the Minneapolis crowd - what a great reception the band got and the place was jumpin’ and fully engaged. I’m sure the band appreciated the enthusiasm of their Minnesota (and region) fans.

@Dark Aria I could’ve upgraded to a balcony seat, and maybe I should’ve, but I was standing so close to the stage that I decided to stay there. No regrets!!! I’m glad you had a great time, and also that you found seats 😀
Only 46, but had back surgery a few years ago. Staning for a long time in cramped spaces on the floor had me wondering if I had made a mistake after the opening band. As soon as the first note hit from Nightwish I didn't think about my back for the rest of the night.
Mrs H, no need to be nervous, excited yes, not nervous. Enjoy the show!

I've had a daily nightwish habbit...for over a year...or so. I've even said in comments that" I think my family might be looking for me"..I was going to take a break. But..now Mrs. H is on board!...and I'm like thinking...well...she shouldn't go through this alone! And here we are! Love your enthusiasm 😘

I saw the first 3 shows of this North American tour and even without the pyrotechnic effects or story light boards that they use in those big European venues the show/is fantastic.. and Floor is so compelling to watch.. It is difficult not to watch her.. As David says she is a stage general and has the crowd in her hands
The show is going to be epic for you both. Just to temper expectations however... I saw them on the east coast and you aren't going to get the same level of production in a small theater as you see in the Wacken recording. On the absolute positive side, I always wondered if they had done some small massaging and corrections to Floors voice/pitch post production in the Wacken recording. I walked out of my first time seeing Nightwish saying over and over in my head, "nope, no doctoring, she's legit".
Overall for small venues the production was solid. I agree about her voice it was unreal to walk out thinking "Holy crap! She didn't miss a note."
I know but just excited to see them live.

It's sad to know some people get hurt by some of your reactions on nightwish if you don't praise or feel excited. All my favorite bands even those that listen everyday have some tracks that don't touch me and are just ok, not something majestic. I know that you love the band and that's enough for me. Stay true to yourself and that's the only way to have tears in your eyes when you find something really dear to you.
At this point Floor had been with Nightwish for 10 months. Most fans had not seen her yet with Nihgtwish. And Wacken was the biggest concert for Nightwish, they were the headliner, the last performer right after Alice Cooper. Nightwish ended the concert around midnight.
I'm sure the word was out about Floor beeing perfect for Nightwish. There were/are lots of fan recorded videos on YT from the early Nightwish with Floor concerts starting from the beginning of October 2012 when Floor joined Nightwish.
She was known to them. Her first band, After Forever, toured Europe with Nightwish, and had even played Wacken themselves a few years prior. When Tarja left, Floor was one of the people a lot of fans were hoping would replace her. Obviously didn’t happen then, but fortunately the opportunity came around again in 2012.

This is not their BEST song but it is one of my FAVORITE songs.
I know probably 10 songs I know are way better songs, objectively, but I just fakking LOVE this song.
Wonderful reaction. Floor absolutely kills this. Glad you two are going to see them at the Wiltern. I can't wait for my wife and I to see them at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco on Wednesday, May 18th. While these smaller venues don't have the pyro and bling of the larger venues, you have to love the intimacy and closeness with the band. Have fun.

I would make sure that Mrs. Heretic knows that the smaller venues can't support the level of production that the festival venues use. In other words; the show you are going to see will most likely have considerably less flash. That being said, I AM SO FREAKING JEALOUS.

Been watching you for a long time (Nightwish only I admit and i don't comment much) and while I haven't seen this video yet...how could I its only a minute or two old, I know I'm going to love it. Looking forward to how Mrs. Heretic reacts to this amazing show opener. Have the watch the rest of the videos tomorrow though but that's alright. Gives me something to look forward to after work.

If I remember it right, you David did see two of their openers (Shudder before the beautiful as the other one) but you didn't watch how they close a show: "Last Ride of the day" either from Wacken or from "Masters of Rock". Incredibly insane like their show openers.

Dark Chest of Wonders. My favorite Nightwish song when it was released, and is still today. Perfect mix of heavy and operatic :)

I really do hope you guys enjoy the show! As you've been able to tell from all of their live videos you both have seen, they are amazing live. I sadly missed them when they came near me a couple days ago due to my having a compromised immune system and not being ready to be in the middle of a couple thousand people for several hours. Hopefully next time they come, I'll be seeing them in person!
I went to the show on May 13th. It was awesome. I have never heard Floor going as hard as she is on this tour. GLS may have been better than Wacken 2013. No worries on the last rating. Every song can't be a 10? This song is in the set list for the 20th! Unfortunately, they can't use pyro in the smaller venues. They don't need it. I miss Marko, but Troy did an amazing job covering Marko's backup vocals. you don't want the opener to be a long one. You want to hit them hard for a couple songs before you get into the deep end. Sure a kick ass opener, i mean how often do you see the crowd, with hands in the air, and headbanging, 10 secs after the show take off, and going hey,hey,hey, in middle of first song, NW pump in the energy, from the very start..just amazing!!
When you go see NW is not gonna open, its gonna be in middle of setlist somwhere, Noise will be your first song, i hope you enjoy the show, well im pretty sure you will..lol

Our neighbors have actually said they're not sure if we're home sometimes, because we're so quiet. But we are a lot of fun, especially when we host a dinner party.

As good as this is .... live is going to blow your minds. The show this tour is great. I won't spoil the set list beyond telling you it's a nice mix older and newer. Will comment on Mrs. Heretic's reaction but I'm confident she is going to love it all.

If they allow filming inside The Troubadour I will definitely do my best. Different venues have different filming protocols, especially here in LA. For example, The El Rey Theater doesn't allow ANY filming of any kind unless you get a permit to film from them, and that's a $10,000 expense. If you get caught filming, your camera/filming device is confiscated and you are kicked out of the theater....and they do have people roaming the crowd looking for people filming. So I'm not sure what the filming rules are, if they do allow it I'll do my best.
@@THEDavidHeretic Looks like you may be able to film with your phone, just not with any detachable lenses. Here's a couple of entries from the Wiltern's Restricted Items list:
"No personal video cameras, Go-Pros, selfie sticks, drones, masks or laser pointers.
No professional audio, video, or audio recording equipment - (including detachable lenses, tripods, zooms or commercial use rigs)"

This is my favorite Nightwish song, but the one from the "End of an Era" performance 2006. This one is good but that one hits hard way better IMO.

Floor is an excellent singer, but I prefer Dany's voice in The Warning, both great bands, but prefer the songs by The Warning.
Hope you guys are excited for your show, Saw them in Montreal & Toronto 2 weeks ago and they dont disappoint live and I love the intimate concerts in North America they are stripped naked of the pyros and screens but man do they give it all. make her watch the setlist.fm lineup before going to the concert its the same setlist for all N.A. shows.
