I love Daphne du Maurier, too. I was so excited when I saw this video! My favorite novel is Rebecca, and my favorite short stories are "The Birds" and "Don't Look Now."

I've only ever read Rebecca, which I loved. Nice to have an author who can consistently pull you out of those slumps. I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks. Feeling slightly better already. If you ever get in a reading slump, I'd recommend her for you too.

March 28, 1963: The Birds. My mother and I saw that in the theatre and it was 9-10yrs later that a teacher in the 5th grade told us that Daphne du Maurier wrote the book.
    Feel better soon.

Thanks. A 5th grade teacher talking about Daphne du Maurier -- cool teacher!

I borrowed a copy of 'Rebecca', then procrastinated on starting it, and then overheard someone say, "oh, that's a rip-off of 'Jane Eyre'". I've never read 'Jane Eyre', so I borrowed a copy of that believing I should start with the source material. Now I'm in the middle of the procrastination stage before starting 'Jane Eyre' prior to someone inevitably pointing out that JE is, in fact, a "rip-off" of some ancient tome I'll be forced to download off Project Gutenberg or some such. This turned into a more rambly reply than originally intended. Must be the coffee. Anyway, great video. Cheers.

Michael I hope your health is on the upswing. Loved your De Maurier video. She is also one of my favorites and I plan on reading My Cousin Rachel next. I wish I could recommend a slump buster but have been a little slumpy myself. Hope Rachel picks me up!😊

Ive only read all her story collections and they are perfect. I will have to try your method since Im in a slump now. Everything I read is pedestrain at best! Some of her stories actually haunt me. Starting with the first story i read of hers as a kid in a independant collection titled, THe Others. I read ,The Blue Lenses, there. Some of her others I like are; The Chamois, The Limpet, Dont Look Now...I could go on.

I have! Im just starting another collection by one of my favorite cult horror authors: Terry Lamsley! His books need to be reprinted I had to follow this one on ebay for awhile bfore I took the plunge at around $100.(Im on a fixed budget) Its called Dark Matters that was released in a limited ed. His last collection was excellent: Conference With the Dead. His stuff is actually chilling for a modern writer with a limited release. I now must posses all his collections. I have one left to go! But its also a $$$ ltd ed.

Yeah, you're not in your sarcastic mood today, so hope you are doing ok. I've been under the weather a long time myself and it sucks so I feel you. Feel better soon. Have only read Rebecca by this author.❤

This probably won't help you out of your reading slump, and I kind of feel like a delinquent for even suggesting this, but here goes: How about some very, very easy to read, romantic crack fiction? I know, this would be a 180 for you reading wise (at least I think so), but, well, that's what I tend to read when I'm in a slump. My go-to would be some of Alessandra Hazard's books. Most of them are kind of filthy and insane, and won't win any awards for literary quality any day soon. I find them highly entertaining. And I'm a slow reader, but usually blast through her books in a few hours. Currently, my two favorite slump busters are 'Just a Bit Wrecked' and 'Just a Bit Heartless'. You might have to state that you had some kind of delirium if you ever were to read *and* review one of Hazard's books, but who knows, it may take you by surprise, and as a subscriber I would be delighted to hear what you think :D

Thanks for the recommendation! I hadn't heard of Alessandra Hazards. Just looked her up. Those books look like just the kind of thing I occassionaly get to ghostwrite (though it's been a while since I've gotten any work in that area). It's true they are fun! And, you're right, that would make for an interestinf review video.... I think for my next romance experience I'm going to try Gravity by Tal Bauer. My heart's made up, as it were. Maybe later in March, life depending...

I just readed " my cousin Rachel". It's just amazing... I want to read The house on the strand". Did someone read this one?

    • @Michael_Wertenberg

Hi Joan. I've read The House on the Strand. It's one of those books that i didn't exactly love while reading it, but I do look back on it fondly. It's time traveller expressing love for Cornwall, could also be considered an interesting take/metaphore on addiction.
