I consider him a prominent 21st century composer, no matter the style of music he plays it's beyond genre. So glad he went away from Emperor. We got some killer albums out of that that will forever be cherished, but his later works inspire me well beyond what he did there.

Saying that about Ihsahn is the same that saying that Metallica didn't "sold out" to get MORE MONEY by playing "Nothing else mathers", "Sad but true" and "The unforgiven".
      AHAHAH !
Did you know that Abbath has a Motorhead cover band called "Bombers" ?
Did you know that some norwegian Black Metal bands musicians are joining together to form Tradition Heavy Metal bands or even Hard-Rock/Rock'n'Roll bands, as an example, CHROME DIVISION, but without leaving their original bands ?
If i had a BLACK METAL (or THRASH) band and if i wanted to play POP MUSIC for chicks just to get MORE MONEY i woud had a SIDE-BAND, so, there's a difference between BEING ASSHOLE (playing different songs to get more money) and TO BE SMART (side-band) !

how easy, quiet and matured looks his face now, i saw his face and i look a man who i love and admire as my favorite musician with a historic background back in the early 90's, those days about the inner circle, the black metal been condemned, euronymous assassination, varg in jail, other black metal scene stars killing homosexual man, the obscure satanic era in the black metal scene back in the day when we were just kids, i just can say hail Ihsahn thanks for the best years back in the 90's and what you're still doing, Hail Ihsahn!

But back in the 90s all Norwegian Black Metal bands musicians were just doing like the Catholic Church in Middle Age when it practiced the Dictatorship of the Holy Inquisition, and what i mean is KILL ALL PAGANS, so, if the World want to judge World Wide Black Metal they have to judge in 1st place the Catholic Church for Paedophilia.

Fenriz, Varg, a lot of blackers love electronic music and/or hip hop. Monika Kruse is a huge influence for example. She has a dark atmosphere, really unique. Adore Ihsahn, he never stops exploring and experimenting, successfully might I add and that's why I hold him in such a high regard. And he is chill and down to earth, unlike some of his peers who are still edgelords. Lovely interview!

I had just written something similar a few minutes ago about Voivod being a surprise influence on Ihsahn - once I heard it, I couldn't unhear it! The influences of bands like Venom, Bathory, Celtic Frost, and Hellhammer on Emperor were a little more obvious and hard to miss, but it's kind of a treat to suddenly hear something a little subtler in Ihsahn's work, like hints of King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, or Voivod that you've never noticed before, and then see his music in a completely different light. Part of what makes Ihsahn's work so interesting, timeless, and rewarding to me is not so much what he hits us over the head with (he does work in some genres where excess is a central part of everything he does), but in what is understated or just barely audible in the spaces between the feedback, blastbeats, and screams.

It's recommended for musicians to listen to as many other forms of audio that they can for inspiration. Because, all things considered, music from any genre- is simply math. So it's possible for a black metal musician to listen to a pop-country track and be inspired by how a breakdown is introduced, or a harmony from an R&B song or Motown hit, and emulate it in their own style. The listener perhaps never realizing what the inspiration was. It opens up the artist's mind and allows them to experiment. The alternative may be to do the same thing over and over again, until you get so bored of it, you just can't do it anymore.

Ok, I got to say, if you're going to argue semantics, you might want to word your argument better. Irregardless is in fact a word & has been for at least a century. Is it defined as standard English?, no, in fact it's an nonstandard form of English, more like a shoot off or a dialect of sorts with nonwords and broken grammar. Will it ever become apart of standard English?, probably not, many words have become apart of standard English since irregardless got coined, but not irregardless. You might want to instead say, irregardless is not proper English.

it is a word as long as people have it in their vocabulary and are using it. but it certainly doesn't exist in the english lexicon. and the whole reason it exists and is in use is because of ignorance. that is why i felt it needed to be pointed out. i have no problem with bastardized words being used colloquially, but this one is cringingly redundant since the meaning ur trying to make using this word, can already be made without blemishing the word (irregardless = regardless)
