It is very rare that anyone can make the lower notes of a piano easily fit into their song, because either they themselves muddy it up by pushing too many note in the lower register, or they use bass notes that don’t fit the melody
That is a popular technique in Southern Gospel music the last 20 years or so. It is a very nice effect, but you are exactly right- if you haven't truly mastered that technique. it sounds horrible! All the low notes clash and sound like mud until a pianist can get this technique down. Roger Bennett with the Cathedrals and Legacy Five was a great practitioner of the lower register playing.
Though I never personally knew this precious lady, I have always been a great fan of hers. One of my cherished possessions is a hand written letter from her -- after I had sent her personal note on losing her daughter. My wife is an awesome pianist as well -- though she did not purposely learn to play in Eva Mae's style, she plays a lot like Eva Mae. Eva Mae has joined so many other wonderful musicians now --playing for Heavenly Choir!

The quartet I was with in 2004 had a regular booking at Hoofer's Gospel Barn in Georgia. The last time we sang there before I left the group, Eva Mae was one of the scheduled guests. We were told at the last minute she wouldn't be there that night because she had become very sick. It wasn't long before she had passed into Glory. I sure regretted getting to know her. We did frequently work with another music legend- Big Jim Hammil, who was one of the sweetest old men I've ever met. I miss him to this day...
Now having passed my 80th birthday, 70 years in church music, I listen to the CD I recorded at my 50th year and hear done difference. Yet, I praise God for HYMNS WITH Ebony Flare as I play more than 300 hymns and traditional - recorded on 12 CDs. I was so blessed as I listen to this "seasoned" rendition!
Mrs. Eva Mae sure played that piano so well. She's an inspiration me. She seems like a true woman of God Thank you Jesus for sending Godly women my way to help me. I love you Jesus and I miss Eva Mae. Gwen

Mrs. LeFevre was such an inspiration to me and she sure could play that piano. I would like to think that I was of such humble spirit that God would annoint my hands and my soul. I know Jesus saved me and I love him so. I know Eva Mae, that you are in Heaven with your husband and a son. I'm looking. for to meeting you in Heaven. Gwen

This was completely her own arrangement. She could play by ear, so she never needed to memorize written music. She could read music, but the only times that pro Gospel musicians do that is when they are called on to play something they've never heard before, and they have been using number charts for that for decades now.
I think she plays far better than Swaggart! He sounds as if he's had no training at all. Eva always sounded very polished and trained. She could play rings around Swaggart!
My grandfather said Eva Mae was the prettiest woman he had ever seen. We saw her and her family perform at gospel music concerts in FL during the 1950's & '60's. Of course that was a long time ago when she was young, but I thought she was still a very nice looking lady right up to the last. Grandpa passed on to Heaven in 1960, the same year I was married, and I'll be seeing him, Eva Mae, and many other people who I love pretty soon myself. Isn't God good??

She may have played by ear, but it is also possible she had a very good memory from having played the sheet music. Either way, she was a good one.

I'm 70 and learning piano, this beautiful lady and her testimony has given me hope!
My mom was 78 when she taught herself "Cold cold heart." We'd sing along.

It's great that we as Christians have everything to look forward to, but it's so painful for family members and friends when we have to leave them.
