    The 880s been my daily trainer since my first marathon 4 years ago. I prefer it because it doesn't change much every year so I can buy it easily online and/or in sale for the previous year. Its so simple and its perfect.

    I have seen this mistake repeated on many shoe reviews. When you alter your shoe size to accommodate a fit, you have to be VERY careful, because the shoe may not fit your foot accordingly. The lasts and subsequent foam that they use for any shoe, is specifically designed to fit for each shoe size. So, if the foam density varies - heal, midsole, toe-box - on some shoes, altering your shoe size to accommodate a larger shoe, still may not be appropriate. THE ONLY WAY TO KNOW FOR SURE, IS TO TRY ON THE SHOE. Unfortunately, trying to find a brick and mortar store that actually has these shoes in them... well, good luck with that! You end up playing this game of ordering sizes over the internet and you are not able to order the right size in a proactive manner. This is happening across the board with all shoe manufacturers, with the exception of some of the bigger names, like Nike, Adidas, etc. I just find this whole running shoe purchase to be extremely frustrating when I can't try the dam shoe on FIRST! Sorry, just airing out my frustration, but I wonder if others feel the same way.

    This shoe is excellent for heavier runners. I weight over 200 lbs & this gives me great support. Also u can get all the widths on several websites. I got it in wide. The Weight is pretty good for a daily trainer. Outsoul & support is durable.

    I commented last week but adding another note in case folks find it useful.
    I've got through 4 pairs of 1080v10s and absolutely loved them, wearing a UK size 10.5 Wide (2E). I decided to skip the V11s, but based off Ben's review (and a few other reviews) I ordered a pair of 1080v12 in half a size down (UK 10). I also decided to order in "standard width" this time because the guys at BelieveInTheRun mentioned the shoe fitted long AND wide...This was a mistake!
    The half size down is perfect on length, but a touch too narrow for my feet, and so I'm exchanging these for a UK10 Wide (2E).
    IMO if you have wide feet, go half a size down as Ben suggested, but stick with the wider fit.

    Nice one Ben - ran in my v10's this morning. It just goes to show how running shoe opinions are so subjective. The 100% exact reason I like them is the separate Ultraheel. Its the most secure and comfy lockdown I've had at the heel from any running shoe bar none. I realised this after the first 5 steps in the shoe. I would buy the V11 purely on the basis that its retained that heel, and I may possibly not get the V12 due to the lack of it. It suits me so much I often think why doesn't every manufacturer do this ? I know that's the polar opposite to many peoples opinions. :)

    Puma velocity nitro (only ran in the v1 but apparently the v2 is even better) by a country like. Less than £100, I’ve covered 600 miles in them with plenty left, and they’re both lightweight and comfortable. Although the Reebok floatride energy 2/3/4 is tasty as well…

    Got a pair of v11's last year - only time I noticed any real heel slip was after the plastic in the counter had snapped in half (feels good getting a refund at 400km) extra weight seems a downer, hopefully the new uppers not too warm - that's the one thing I like about the v11 say compared to the Nike Invincible is for that much foam the upper does not feel overly bulky

  • @BleakVision
    @BleakVision 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I was suckered into the Mushmeister V11 by all the positive reviews. It was the most mushy, unstable shoe I‘ve ever run in. The heel was a total catastrophy, sizing was off, my toes were getting numb. and my ankle was rolling inwards like crazy. Actually some random cyclist stopped his bike to tell me about how bad my form looks from the rear! That’s not something that happens every day, I can tell you that. That was the day I got rid off them.
    So good to see that the heel has improved, but the midsole seems to be the same…

      I share the same opinion I have this NB 1080 V12, Nike Infinity React 2, Nike ZoomX Invincible, and Adidas Ultraboost 22. The 1080 is probably my least favorite shoe for running. It's super comfortable yes, but it's really unstable. The Nike ZoomX is even more cushiony and plush than the 1080 in fact more than any shoe i've ever tried but it doesn't give me that feeling of instability, its my favorite running shoe right now followed by the Nike React 2. I just don't feel safe in the 1080 (ankle roll is coming), now as an all day shoe I actually don't mind it too much I think the NB 1080V12 and the Nike React are my favorite if I'm just out and about because it is comfortable, light, and very reactive. I just wouldn't recommend the New Balance especially if you have weak ankles.

  • @pbnotj1

    I have been running in these now for a few months ; upper improved I think from past models . It is a little warm if you live in very hot weather look elsewhere. I did have to size down 1/2 size which was not the case with prior model. The main gripe I have is that the midsole foam is pretty much a slightly rubberized Eva foam
    Which does die a bit premature. The shoe loses comfort faster than other models with more advanced foam. For the price I would suggest go elsewhere for better midsole technology. But if forgiving upper is the main goal for you this may be fine choice. For instance my wife has a bunion and loves this type of upper as it is stretching just enough and would rather replace a shoe a little more frequently for new midsole if it doesn’t cause toe foot irritation.

    Will try and pick these up! I loved the Hoka Clifton as a daily trainer but when running any longer than 4ish miles started to get blisters under the arches! So Im currently using the ASICS Glideride as a daily trainer but always conscious that it’s very stiff and think I should probably be doing my daily miles in something a bit more flexible!

    I love the 1080's! I think the v10 was the best but I do prefer the heel cup in the v11. I've got a boney lump on one heel which always wears through heel padding, but the v11 has stood up perfectly. May look to buy another pair or two of them if they're going cheaper.

    I think my best daily trainer is nike zoomfly 4, very nice foam agility. 1080v12 is more like ultraboost 22, more into walking in malls and office alike. And i mean its great in its own relax purposes. The extra weight makes leg swing not as swift and as far, but more enjoyable arguably.

    After wearing different versions of the 1080s over the years and being extremely satisfied over the comfort, I am just so bummed out that they changed the sizing.
    45 was a perfect fit for me on all the older versions and now they are too big. I had to go for 44.5 and they are just a tiny bit too small to give the same amazing comfort.

  • @NickSmith-qv9ep
    @NickSmith-qv9ep 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I agree with all you say Ben. I was surprised by how big they were in a 12 wide, but with a lot of NB shoes I have gone a half size up. I have a thumb length at the end, but the lockdown is great thanks to the redesigned heel and I have had zero lateral movement when cornering, so it is a non-issue. In fact, it may be one of the few shoes I have had that actually fits me properly! As for the weight-it is a training shoe, so who cares? It is in the same ballpark as the Pegasus 38 etc and is far more stable and forgiving on the legs.

    • @BenParkes

Decided that for the next daily I pick up I would try to find a more classic upper but with as similar a foam, was thinking of trying the 880s or going for a different brand. These are tempting but that jump in weight may be worth trying out first.

    Has anyone had issues w the ankle cutout hitting the ankle bone? I tried the 1080s & the 880 and both would dig in to the underside of my ankles w every step. The rest of the shoe fits perfectly. This is the 1st time I’ve ever had this issue w shoes.

      Yes. I just got a new pair from a NB store and yes it is bumping into bottom of my right ankle mostly. I had tried the SC Elite v3 a few months ago and they actually cut me under right ankle and was bleeding. Had a scab for weeks from that and had to return them right away. The 1080 has not cut me under the ankle, but annoyingly keep rubbing up under my ankle. The new 1080v12 also gave me a bad blister under 3rd metatarsal. So sore now to put weight on my left foot. This was after an 8 mile tryout. They seemed so comfortable in the store and if I did a short little 1 or 2 mile test.

    I have the v11, still go to the saucony triumph 19s, have had 3 pairs in same time as the v11s. Good shoe but lack of ankle lockdown and not enough foam forefoot area Vs the triumphs.

    This afternoon, just before your video, I ordered the Hoka Clifton 8's...
    But it's clearly the 1080 v12 I really want !
    The v11 had a really bad heel-hold, so thats why I went for the Hoka's.
    I find comfort in the fact, that I do not like heel-drops higher than 6mm.

  • @JS-xn3dq

    I tried this for a couple of runs and don’t think it is for me. First, I don’t think the upper is great for me, a little loose and not a great lockdown. Second, it feels a little clunky on foot. Third, it’s great for durability to have so much outsole but there is such a thing as over doing it. I think they could afford to remove some of the outsole. I just tried the ASICS Cumulus 24 and think that is a superior daily trainer in comparison. I might try the Puma Velocity nitro 2.

    Hi Ben, thanks for the review, I was so excited for this! V10 is my fave shoe ever, to me the v11 fits the same lengthwise as v10. Did you get the narrow version of v12 half a size down from your v11 or the same size? Didn’t quite grasp what you said about that. Do you recommend going either 1) with narrow or 2) half size down, or both? 😄 trying my best to avoid having to return a future order. I have narrow feet so definitely going to try the narrow one, will be the first time for me too!

    • @BenParkes
      @BenParkes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I got my usual size, in narrow. But for most people, they'll buy on other websites, where they'll only offer regular width. So suggested going half down, or maybe even a full size down (although only said 1/2 in the video) So you might be ok with the regular size and narrow.. they were a fraction too long for me, but think they were ok.

    the v10s got a good workout for me, and they were...alright? They created hotspots and while underfoot feel was pretty great for a while, it died faster than expected. Shoes do look amazing though. I've found that the novablast 2 is actually an excellent daily trainer, and then the endorphin speed for anything else, so will probably continue to stick to that!

    My daily is a rotation between the NB Arishi and the Saucony ride. I love my NB just a little bit more, so I'm considering going to the 1080V11. Any advice out there? I've been running a long time, BUT my left leg is reconstructed (femur, hip, and knee), so running is a little bit tougher. I'm currently training for my first marathon next January. Any advice?

    Hi Ben another very well researched and presented video thanks however the weight and price of this one is off putting especially as I picked up the puma velocity nitro 2 last week for under £100 and they are fantastic please review them ?? Ran many miles in the version 1 last year but Puma have really properly upgraded the version 2 and won’t be surprised if it’s near the top of best daily trainers of 2022. Thanks Ben for all your work on our behalf. Ian

    Waiting for this review and great to see it out. Thanks for doing it so quickly. Is it worth £50 compared to v11? Doesn’t sound like it. I’ve multiple pairs of v10/v11 and thinking of getting another pair of v11 or go for v12. No issues with stones either here. I find the v11 standard fits be perfectly so if I do get a pair I might go to shop and try it out.

    Hi Ben, nice video. I'm trainning for a marathon, willing to go something around 3:15:00 to 3:20:00 (actually I'm using your Level 3 program). So, my big problem is what shoe I will use on race day, cause a carbon plate shoe like de Vaporfly seems to be huge for my pace. Do you think this v12 will work?

      I ran a 3:28 marathon on the nike vaporfly next 2% and loved it. Even at my ‘slower’ pace still a lot of benefit, legs less tired. Plus the shoes make running so fun. I only use them for races.

      First, great Marathon at 3:28, congrats!
      But when I say " huge for my pace" I'm also talking about the price of the shoes (also here in Argentina are really hard to find). Anyways, I will take count your expereience, maybe get a pair of Vapors only for races is not a bad option

    Hi Ben great review on shoes, but what about those people who only use one brand and the same shoe over and over again. I have been using the Nike vomero for many years and just love this shoe I have 3 pair at the moment and rotate daily.It has changed over the years but I have never had blisters or lost a toe nail. Also I run marathons and ultra marathons as well, I am training for Two Oceans in Cape Town and comrades in August. I am so scared of buying a different brand in case I don’t like them and then have wasted money.
