I'm one of those weird gamers that only heard of Blood rage for the first time, once Avalon the Riven Veil Kickstarter began and people kept comparing it to Blood rage lol.

I mean like i said i understand the comparison but it was as apt as i felt but thats just cause my mind is weird and different too
If it would have a solo mode (or co-op), it would be an instant all-in. Without, it just won't get played as much as I'd like / want and need for a proper justification.
Exact same boat. I want to play this really bad but I have nobody to play it with. Very reluctantly canceled my pledge as it would simply never get played.
I also wanted to see this, but when I looked closer at the game design I realized that it lends itself pretty easily to 2v2 (assuming the final is like the prototype)

That makes sense for sure. dont buy it if it doesnt fit well
I saw an interview from another content creator with the game designer where he said they have plans for a solo and co-op mode. It was mentioned pretty quickly so I'm not sure if their plans are to include it with this Kickstarter or for after
I'm glad there is a review for it, because I know I wouldn't like it (I like the theme, just not area control / competitive).I bought Oathsworn (while haven't play it, but reading the tutorials and diverse characters , along with a storyline), I know I will enjoy it. I hope Shadowborne games will have this theme but with co-op / story (i.e. PVE), I don't believe there is mythical theme for Ex-Calibur in board games.
Kinda funny to hear "marvel champions-esque how many card to pay for it" rather than referencing Race for the Galaxy/San Juan. But I get that the hobby moves so quickly that Champions is the right reference.

thats fair, to my defense, i never really played RftG or San Juan, so it was actually really one of if not my first reference of this type of mechanic too!
No game has yet even come close to matching the perfection of faction decks that Conquest of Nerath achieved almost a decade and a half ago. With such a great well to draw from that is the Arthurian Legends, I was hopeful for this one - Arthur vs Mordred, Christian Camelot vs the Pagan Druids and Priestesses of Avalon. This just sounds painful. Oh well, back to Nerath. (Mordred was the good guy - come at me)
The random drawing of cards is a deal breaker for me. Without some kind of market or drafting in a card based area control game its just to random and unpredictable for my liking
I believe that people were spoiled rotten with Lang’s trilogy and how streamlined they all were using miniatures on a map. So many of these games are compared to Blood Rage, especially, and reviews seem to skew in the direction of wanting simplicity. Asymmetry, but also few icons and text.
I’m not sure, man. I think I’ll pass on it. I backed Wroth this year because I thought it was easy, simple, and could be played in about an hour. Games like Root and some others require a group that always plays together, and this one seems even more complicated.

Surprisingly not as complex and smoother than i was worried about. but the under an hour thing is for sure not gonna be the case, mayyyyybe in a 2 round everyone knows what theyre doing style but not in anything 3 round
Most area control games lack coop because it is somewhat against the main principle. You are supposed to dominate others as much as you can. Vast majority of decent AC board games I can recall are very antagonistic and any alliance is non-binding "opportunity". From the top ones, I think only Root had something we can call "coop" - Vagabond could force themselves like a parasite into an alliance with the weakest player, making it into a fully supportive game by the Vagabond in exchange for a "joint-win" if the allied player won (Vagabond could no longer win alone). As for Solo, well, hard to automate asymetric factions without making it into an expansion of its own.
@@DrAhzekThere are plenty asymmetrical AC games with solid automatas / solo modes. SBG hasn't entirely rules out something for the future, so there is hope.
Mezo plays similar to this game (as far as simultaneous card choice, units leaving map, asymmetric leaders, fighting for control of areas and points over a series of ages with only buildings staying on map...)and had a solo mode as part of the Kickstarter.
I found they handled the crowdfunding very poorly this time. I get that prototypes needed to be sent out and the combat was pretty heavily reworked after that, but they only had one major play through video via The Dice Tower who did a very poor job and only played the symmetric side, which is honestly pretty boring compared to the asymmetric side. It would have made a lot more sense for a TTS mod to be made publicly available, or for more play through videos to be made available, or for play testers to chime in to give input, etc. It seems a lot of the conversations were just "this is balanced and fun, trust us" and while I trust them as a developer, I can see how that would turn off a lot of people (and based on the Kickstarter comments and BGG threads, it did)
ohh. cool to see you post a review in time! cheers
:)
YOU'VE BEEN MORE JOLY THAN USUAL... NOT COMPLAINING... I'M REALLY ENJOYING IT AND HAPPY FOR YOU. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I'm trying! though there will be an unpopular opinions video coming soon to give some more...emotion to the channel

My issue also. I need a solo mode for the vast majority of board games I own.

Doh, wish more of this video was in focus.
yeah sorry about those card shots!
Really want this, but just can’t see it replacing blood rage for me,
Completely fair!

Gotta work on near focus.
yeah i know. i dont know why the camera has trouble with that sometimes. Sorry!
Honestly .. just looks so busy
It is and isnt for sure
pitty indeed... no solo/coop...

Coreect. And really good ones :) Rurik or lords of Ragnarok for ex.

I was going to take it all in but because of the contest, I got disgusted with this game and gave up. Dont want to see this game ever in my life ;D
The contest?
What contest ?
The art one
