I'm in my 30's and I can give you an idea how it was like having no social media. Your world was your interests and everything felt wide open. Like looking forward to whatever was on tv at a certain time, looking foward to the books or games you have gotten without a care in the world, and exploring the abandoned parts in town on our bikes. There's no longer that strange weight you carry from being connected to the world and you start noticing your thoughts more. That surreal anxiety feels like actual poison and your dreams become clean. It's beyond weird. I think we have to remember that we are animals at the end of the day and things in general can and will have a bad effect on us. I can only imagine how it's like for the new generation that are born right off the bat into social media addiction. With me I have that memory of not having it and can use those memories to help me manage my internet usage. Like I know and feel it when I need to stop.
i am 16 and i haven't been using social media for 8 months. the world is not inside of the electronical devices and realizing that had matured me a LOT in 8 months, trust me it's a huge thing. not thinking but people, their things, consumerism, politics BUT myself, my productivity, developments and meanings. lately, i have dowloaded instagram again in order to follow up some social activity calendars around my city and i became an addict again just in this short term. i've been feeling sleepy, tired, sad and unproductive. i deleted my social medias except youtube (education:)) last night. taking a step is really important and i congratulate you that you actually did that in a world where teens, adults, even children can't live without it! so proud of us!!
Do you have any recommendations of things to do to fill up your time? I would delete social media, but I have nothing to do because my whole family is just on thoer phones all day.
The constant meaningless scrolling creates all the problems and the boredom on any platform. I feel meaningful searching for something would greatly reduce these issues of social media. Thanks for highlighting them.
I was 17 when I watched your 18th video, I'm turning 21 soon! I rarely use social media but for education and family purposes. I noticed how addicting it was, then I stopped.
Just turned 30 and I’ve been using social media since I was 17! I’ve been struggling for few years to quit social media. I’m joining your club and my goals is to quit for 2 months🙏🏻
I swore of social off around 2020; not that I was in it often. now I only go to twitter to see nsfw and specific artists and even then I don't have the energy to go to twitter, I use tumblr to see fandom stuff and I learned to stop toxically comparing myself to other artists and just enjoy the beautiful art in the world. tumblr's more community driven system also stops it from being as toxic as other social media, even if there's weird shit in there. I have discord that I use to talk to my friends and be in art discord communities, play dnd, and actually interacting with other artists when you see their amazing art is so much more fullfiling than just watching them on instagram. and of course youtube for learning stuff and background noise. cara and artstation for my portfolio. I still have struggles, building good habits in general is great. but not using social media has made me realise that a good chunk of my insecurities come from my emotionally abusive family. I do think youtube shorts is fucking with my sleep again tho, I should really stop using that and watch long form content before bed instead.
Yesterday, I privated my instagram and decided I'm going to take a long break. I think I definitely need to step away because it's taking time away from my needs and creative endeavors. I do have a good community of friends, that can only be interacted with online and I chat with them every morning, but I really want to keep doing that, for the social aspect, but also give myself the time to read more and write, draw, even animate more often. I love taking walks, especially to the park or library, and I want to do more of that, but with social media it takes a lot of my time which sometimes, the sky (especially in the winter) gets darker before I can. And, if I walk alone, which I normally do, I don't want to walk alone at night, so I want to try putting my phone down, unless I use it for music during walks, and go out and enjoy the nature around me. Not much nature in a city (though around me its more of a suburb/neighborhood) but the park and peoples front yards can be nice to look at and be around.
i am curious to know about your age. by the way wonderfull content you are proving and if u are around 20 22 then you are growing so good in your life for which i congratulate you. keep up the good work. good luckk
Oh I see. So TH-cam is NOT a social media. It's ok to post here and interact with others on this non-social media platform. Gimme a break you people who are "leaving social media". smh.
This isn't staying off social media. TH-cam IS social media as well. You said the entire year you'd be off. You posted a vid after that about your book and now this one. Be honest, you aren't off social media, you've just curtailed it.

You can post a video and NOT consuming social media at the same time. Use and consume is NOT the same, girl.
Did you even watch their last video??? 🙄🙄
I thought you were quitting social media? You're no better than other influencers out there though you pretend to be all "ooo social media's so bad"
Did you even watch their last video??? 🙄🙄
You fell off
