Right now my favorite way of recording is with a shotgun mic that is connected to the Rode Wireless Go system. It gives the mic a "boom like" versatility and it sounds great!
I’ll be honest, the new apple devices have decent mics. Definitely not able to compare to professional microphones, but they do the job for new TH-camrs. LOVE your videos man keep it up
They have certainly come a long way! For my next video I will be diving into how to improve audio in post, and that's definitely something that can be applied to apple devices audio!
I do mostly people talking. For video, if using a lapel mic I use a Rode wireless go and the external mic port on a camera or just run the wire to the camera external port if close to the camera. When I don't want the mic in the frame I use a shotgun on a stand like a Senn 416 or Deity 3 pro and some sort of recorder. For pure voice-over, no video, we have a booth that has a Senn 416, pop filters, and a DBX 286 strip. But, after your section on the Tascam with the 2 audio level support, I may have to add one of those. People always speak so loud and blow out the levels! Thanks for showing this.

Great vid for someome who knows nothing! Im trying to improve my music video sound while doing covers and original songs. I have a shure mv51 but haven't hooked it up to my Sony ZV1F yet. So much to learn lol
Great concise advice man! I have Sony and Fuji and prefer Fuji for baked in audio as I can select "Line In" for the mic port which totally bypasses the mic preamp. I then use a nice condensor mic into an external sound source and then line out into the camera "Line in" microphone port. I do nothing in post and send the entire video to TH-cam for the least compressed file in the end. My sound sources currently are Tascam Mixcast 4, Tascam 70D and a Zoom H6 and all let you compress and treat the audio before it gets sent to the camera. Sony does not allow you to completely bypass the mic preamp so they're relegated to non studio work.
Small request can you make a video on how to post process an audio file? Reduce noise, amplify, compress... all those audacity settings... would fit the narrative of your channel as well.
Woahh.......I literally moved my mouse to click out of the video at 0:12 until I heard the sound quality change. Yes that's the exact sort of quality I'm looking for, phew.

I got brought a canon g7-x mark 2. Im totally beginner. Watching your videos are helpful and informative.. i want to do beauty recording what lighting and mic can you recommend ?
Here is a question I can't seem to find the answer to. How can I record the audio from my laptop with (an onto) my video camcorder? The scenario would be a podcast. Say the topic is music. The host starts to play cuts of songs on his/her laptop during the recording (not live) of a podcast. How can my camcorder pick up that audio of the songs being played (on the laptop) onto the camcorder? When I make the videos I use a camcorder with XLR mic jacks to mic the podcast host and guests. Therefore I record with a camcorder and SD card and not a computer interface.
Its great! Personally I dont love Wireless systems, I've had many issues with interference in the past but I know lost of people who use and love the RODE Go!
Thank you! Been looking for ways to upgrade my audio. I do a lot of teaching piano… talking and playing. Do you think a shotgun mic might work well to pick up my voice and piano both?
It could be a good option but shotguns tend to work best when they are close to the subject (like vlogging). You also need to be cautious of playing the piano too loud and it over powering your voice. I may recommend a lav mic on your shirt to get close to your voice
What camera can you recommend as well? Doesn’t have to be to fancy. Based off your video, the Wired Tascam DR10L would be my go-to. My purpose with the camera is to record construction stages of building. And I would like to speak in the video as well. Any recommendations?
If you’re trying to film vlog type videos while on the go I’d recommend a shotgun mic like the Diety Duo d4: amzn.to/3JvXaO8 I currently use this on my vlog style videos and it works great!

What camera can you recommend as well? Doesn’t have to be to fancy. Based off your video, the Wired Tascam DR10L would be my go-to. My purpose with the camera is to record construction stages of building. And I would like to speak in the video as well. Any recommendations?
Sony a6400 with a sigma 16 1.4 is a great combo
I really enjoyed this video. What would you recommend for "run & gun" style audio? Or do you have a video on that specifically?
If you’re trying to film vlog type videos while on the go I’d recommend a shotgun mic like the Diety Duo d4: amzn.to/3JvXaO8
I currently use this on my vlog style videos and it works great!
@@benjohnsoncreative Thanks Ben. I appreciate the reply and advice. Happy New Year

I am starting to create Masterclasses off Zoom, do you recommend the same microphones if you are recording off your computer and not a camera?
I’d recommend this one: th-cam.com/video/PU4fYgqaqlg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jw4k5gNQsM7PkklJ
