- One thing that I was most excited about when getting a slab saw for lapidary was cutting open Lake Superior Agates! Ever since starting rockhounding I was interested in lapidary and this slab saw is my first tool where I FINALLY get to cut open some of the beautiful gems I've been waiting over two years to cut! I hope you enjoy this video as much as I did making it!

Thanks for watching! Make sure to subscribe! 🙌 Let me know if you’d be interested in an Etsy store where I sell these beauties! I want to share the wealth! 🥳
I would personally like to buy some big agates for tumbling. Shipping costs are so expensive to Australia though
Etsy store would be great!
I'm glad you got one in the end. Each cut built up the tension to the final reveal. Agaye eyes, with amethyst, so cool. If you think you cut them the wrong way, go back, turn them and see if the quarter rock is any better. Only one way to learn. Cut, cut, cut. Loved the show and you still have the best sound effects. Keep having fun and don't stop learning. See y'a next time. Lots of smiles heading your way.😊🤗😊😉😆😃😁😎😍🤩😜😛🤤🙃😺🙉👷♀️👸🙋♀️🙆♀️
Thank you so much! Yes just takes practice I suppose! Thanks for watching!
@@AgateAriel in case I didn't make it clear, you were super!
The range of emotions on the second agate! It was an emotional rollercoaster haha! I think it was still a fun reveal and just adds to fact that you never know what you'll get until you cut them!
Haha very true!
I recently bought over three pounds of Lake Superior agates and they are my favorites. I got so many beautiful ones, several with purple and even blue and green in them.
What!! I love that!!
I think they all looked beautiful, with each cut you unlock what has been hidden fr millions of years and each one is special. Excellent video.
10:17 The last agate looks almost EXACTLY like Nile Red's pfp (his pfp is a really cool chemical reaction)
That first one you cut is a fragmented membrane. The one with the green on the husk is chlorite, I believe. Which is more common on full nodules. The moss agate, if you polish it, the details will really pop, and I bet you will see some small amethyst pockets. From my experience, amethyst is more common in mossy agates.
Loved watching you cut these!
"Noduliest" 😂 You're brilliant Ariel 😘
For the smaller ones like this, you will get better cuts with the thin sintered blade, the red one that came with the saw. It might be a little slower but gives smoother cuts. That last one made the so-so ones worth it. I won't tell you that you cut the banded agate wrong, because you already know. That's how we learn.
Thank you so much for the advice! I will have to use the red one next time!
What a BLAST finally seeing the innards! Haha!! Good job!! CUT ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️
Thanks so much! It was a lot of fun!
That last one was super pretty! I love eye agates! They really are the best! So much prettier than the plain banded ones! I hope you get a chance to cut the rest without freezing to death! And wear a coat! You already have a cold! Ok om done playing mom! Lol!
Love your channel you are very natural and honest.
Thank you so much!
Your excitement is lovely to see and the last rock is beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you liked it! I think rocks are so cool! 😎
That last agate 😍
Right!! I was literally shaking with how amazing it was 😅
“Agate noduley “ lol that needs to be on merch
Just got a few tonight no out a pounds worth can't wait to see how they come out!🎉
The saw noise got me lol
😆😆
I think a lot of people don't believe me, or the Geologist that studies LSA's, but I read an article where he states that he believes that only about 40% of all LSA's are actually banded. By the time I read it, I believed it, because someone else and I cut open a lot of agates and only like 2 had any bands. People say over and over, ohh that seems like a pretty low number, but most videos like this just proves it to me every time. That being said, I love agates that don't have banding. They are actually more beautiful than a lot of others. Thank you. Good video.
It’s a hard thing to do you never know what way to cut them that first one I would have cut it the other way.😊
Good to c u ❤
Love your videos! I just started hounding 3mths ago and from day 1 was HOOKED! Your videos have taught me SO much Thank YOU!
What a beauty that last one 😊👍
Agreed! I was so surprised how amazing it was inside!
good job ariel great finds 🤍
Thank you!
I'm so excited and happy for you!!!
Thank you!! It was so fun to see what was inside after all that time!
Hi Ariel, awesome content, cool lookin' rocks for sure! Quick question, why did you go with a slab saw versus a wet tile saw? Also, what is the biggest rock you can cut on it or put another way, what is the widest slab you can make?
I think you deserve a "She Shed" for your channel! Seamwork founder documented her adventures creating hers for her sewing studio. Just just post a one year update video.
I got into MN. Last weekend, but I just left FL. Today 😎
Oh exciting! What were you here for?
@@AgateAriel I delivered a load in Iowa at the border and then crossed over to get my trailer washed out and to try to get a tag light 🙂
The last one was a beauty
Right!?
I WANT ONE SO BAD
Great Vid!
Cutting agates is like going on a blind date! Lol
Lol this was a fun one
I used to cut pavers for a landscape crew in nj
I've hand polished and burnished. Never tried that. I now own a few more items (kingsley north, lortone slab machine, trim saw and my 2 barrel rotary tumbler. This year I got a sonic cleaner. I wanted a vibratory tumbler...sorry to say sold out.😢
Don’t feel bad. I have miss cut a few agates when I got my slab saw. In my excitement I just slapped them in the saw and started cutting.
Haha right I think I was overthinking 😅
Wow girl what kind of slicer do you have the last one my god pretty😱
Cutting open finds is always exciting .. do you slab any of them an make pendants or jewelry ?
The last agate honestly looked plain (at least to my untrained eyes. :p) compared to the others until it was opened up. So pretty!! ❤
I had a feeling about it and I’m glad I was right! But agreed! It was very unassuming!
You did well. It is hard to know exactly where to cut .
I think you're awesome! I love rocks. I'm 62 and happily married and I love your explanations of your rocks. I also have a lot of rocks. I would love to show them to you to see what you think. I built a house in selah Washington and when I dug it out for my basement I found a pallets full of rocks, geodes, jasper's carnelians, and other rocks. I don't know what to do with them. Let me know please
Saved the best for last
Cool rocks! I like that last one. :o)
Right?! That one was so amazing!!
Hardness of the rock
Probly better the way you did it length wise creates better panor amic setting
Wife and i get ours at cape may NJ NJ beach and fort indiantown Gap pa she loves rocks one time we bought jome a car full bottomed out a few times even tied our jimmy to yank large ones out of the river lol
ELLO GOVANAW!
Ok I have a question where would I buy a crap ton of grit for cheap because i am a novice rock hounder and tumbler so I don’t exactly know to much about where to buy it so could you help me please
Rule of thumb, never cut into a window
Your doing good just depends on the hardness and speed of the blade
Temp maybe issue for softer rocks warm them up first
?- I'm looking to get a good wet tile saw for Christmas. I wanted to know what brand / type you think I should get based on your trial and errors. If you have any advice on other parts like blades, etc please let me know* Thank you😊
Amazing video
most of them were duds imo but 10:35 is definitely a keeper. thumbs up 👍
Yes I’m glad for the last one for sure! Definitely the best of all of them!
Anyone note the frost on her fingers from the spray!!!?
I would have cut that one the other direction, to crosscut the bands, still pretty though
I know I’m so bummed!
@@AgateAriel see if you can cut the halves in half?
If you feel like you mis-cut it, couldn't you just cut it the other way too and get 4 smaller pieces? Or would they be too small?
Maybe gentle force to the blade let the blade do the work dont force just feel it out
I'm from Pakistan and I have same stone how I can send you pictures
Lord jesus help him as you have heald me and my famley manny times.❤
You cut the second & third ones the wrong way :( you are going with the direction of bands and you should be cutting more across them.
Bout a lbs worth lol
annoying for sure
Wow girl what kind of slicer do you have the last one my god pretty😱
