I love this song, it's the theme song to the movie CITY OF ANGELS with Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan, about an angel who falls in love with a human being. Angels are invisible to humans so she doesn't know that he exists so he gives up his immortality to become human. The story is beautiful and tragic, definitely worth a watch.

Also, they were suffering from writer's block trying to work on their new album. The opportunity to write a song for this movie sparked something when they read it and starting with this song they wrote the next album at that point.

I loved your reaction🥰! It seemed exactly what they were trying to relate. The Goo Goo Dolls are actually from Buffalo, New York close to where I live 😁! Thanks for your reaction! Stay well👍🏻👍🏻!

The Goo Goo Dolls are still creating new music and performing after 30 years. Go see them live if you can, or research more of their catalog. You will NOT be disappointed.

Such a popular sound in the 80s. Couldn't turn on the radio without hearing a band that sounded like this. A decade before this sound became popular there was a not so well known band called PSYCHEDELIC FURS who was making the music that ended up influencing bands like Goo Goo Dolls.

Of course, most of their more popular songs came out in the 80s, 'Pretty in pink' was (obviously) made for the movie Pretty in pink. 'Heartbreak Beat' is probably the song of theirs that I'd first recommend.

It's based off the movie City of Angels. Watch it and it will make more sense.

This song and Aerosmif "I dont wanna miss a thing" were originally written for Celine Dion. She didnt use them and Goo and 'Smif used em.
Became some I'd their most defining songs they've ever released!
Iris brought back Goo but their terrible contracts and things like that broke the band apart.
    So sad💔
You slave for YEARS out on that damn road! (Touring is HARD in you! I've been there) grinding away all this years just for a few pieces of paper that were drafted by someone looking to WIN before the game even started... to ruin all ur work.
You sign any contract or proposal that gets in front of you when it an indie band and want to make that jump to the big big circle!
    It's a promise!!
Like with most relationships... you find out all the promises were lies in the end.

This brings me back to 8th grade in 1998 when this came out and with my many girlfriends that year who all end breaking up with me and breaking my heart because they couldn’t understand and accept me because of my mental illness problems or the fact that I was bisexual and I was always open to who I was

Your comment made me curious about that version. He doesn't come close to John Rzenik at all. I have no idea why so many react to that cover.

I just checked out his cover. It was good. For me though, no one comes close to the original which is untouchable. Love John Rzeznik and the Goo Goo Dolls. John's voice is so deadly good.
