Playing this game without upgrading your Mea Culpa and bead abilities is kinda like playing Doom all the way through with the pistol, no wonder combat was repetitive and boring Not to mention a lot of the enjoyment of a metroidvania comes from the very act of uncovering every sectet, dicovering every nook and cranny on the map If a game is not your jam, that's fine, different strokes for different folks, but I think this review is a bit unfair nothing against you personally
Well I managed to get all except 2 Mea upgrades by the time i completed the game, but having all of them located more towards the end of the game rather than evenly spaced throughout is definitely a bit silly, I obviously understand why the knots are hidden but the upgrade npc should have been unmissable due to its obvious importance, these combined with the many other silly facts I mention all add up to give the score of what I did I admit it is a shame that I do want to like it and simple retouches, minor changes and improvements would probably push this game into Reccomend for me but I'm not here to rate potential, I'm here to answer a simple, ultimate question 😂
Completely disagree with the soundtrack. It's really really good imo. Very fitting, sinister and the theme is so unique. Just like the visuals. I usually don't play 2D games so I wasn't really interested UNTIL I heard the soundtrack. I'm a big music person and music alone has got me to try out games (Final Fantasy, Shadow of the Colossus, Nier, etc) so it definitely got me to put it on my wishlist to play sometime. A friend of mine recently recommended the game to me cause he knows I love both hard and dark games, which coincided with a 50% discount on steam so I just got it. I'll try to remember to edit this comment with my thoughts on the actual game when I beat it though but so far it sounds and looks great. I'll see if it plays well.
Different strokes for different folks I guess haha, I have also purchased many games purely based on the quality of the soundtracks but definitely didn't purchase this game for that reason xD True they fit the ambience well but I can't deny the reasons mentioned in the video, but again, whatever floats your boat :P
This game is definitely worth your time. Unless you have 0 patience and an inability to git gud. I got 100% of the achievements for this game in just over 30 hours, with 3 playthroughs. Pretty sure I could almost speed run it if I had carried on. I agree it has no replayability if you dont achievement hunt, but this game is damn fun, pretty tough, beautiful, and DEFINITELY worth the time. If you have any interest whatsoever in Metroidvanias, then this game is great. You are right that you need a guide to perfect this game though. My first blind playthrough netter an 82% save.
Your correct, I don't really have patience for the majority of encounters being repetitive, boring, mandatory mob grinds back to where I was, I much prefer challenging, varied attacks and higher skill threshold combat personally, attack-attack-guard is pretty much this games combat in a nutshell, bosses fair enough are awesome and are an actual immersive challenge, git gud? More like git bad 😂
@@ZealwoodGaming Fair enough. I just don't think it's AS BAD as you make it out to be. You should definitely give Hollow Knight a try. Would love to see your take on that one.
Aesthetically, it is a work of art, but the channel is definitely focused to those who have little time available to spend on gaming, as a result I like to really push both flaws and assets as best I can when helping you guys make decisions based on my reviews, if my goal was a bit more laid back I would ofcourse reshape my opinion accordingly, it's all about saving my viewers time and money you see Now your talking my language haha, as soon as I get my own house ill be making a review of Hollow Knight don't you worry 👌
Thank you so much for helping me decide to save my money. I’m currently enjoying Slain and my experience has been much different than most reviews. It looks very similar to this except deaths are much more forgiving and platforming is so much better. Pretty challenging though.
No, this game is actually worth it's price and more, do as I did, buy it on discount!! totally worth it, this review was kind of crapping on the game without really understanding it on the first run, and admitting that exploration was missed... You have to read a bunch of the lore to understand it, it's cryptic as fuck but it's nice!
This is a very solid review video. Simple, yet right to the point and provides information that the audience is looking for. I enjoy your minimalistic style, no dumb intro songs, transitions, or anything like that. The game is on sale on Xbox live right now for $20 and I'm really debating whether I should pick it up. It's only $5 off its regular sticker price, but I've been waiting for a big price drop for several months now, and I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon. I think because it's an indie game, they are more comfortable ( and the developers probably need to) sell the game for a certain amount. I probably will end up picking it up this weekend.
Thanks! Some great feedback provided there, I hope to maintain the style you mentioned as I also don't like intros or beating around the bush and much prefer being as straight to the point as possible, if after the points I mentioned you still have a nice amount of interest, I'd say go for it, who better to cast an opinion on a games quality than yourself after all ;)
Why would they need to notify you of shrine placements? yes the game has some cheapish and dickish difficulty at points but I think that also helps it connect with nostalgic gamers... rage quits are not healthy but they were very real back in the day all modern games feel like a walk in the park, this one is true penance!
Pretty sure I already answered that question in the actual video lol, if it wasn't for the repetitive, same-attack monsters this game would have been considerably better
@@ZealwoodGaming yup, hmmm my point is the devs, i feel, are being dickish on purpose to make you rage quit just as in some old nintendo 8bit era games, I loved the game mostly for the art and lore aspect, yes it could be designed better and/or be a bit less cheap (i also spent couple of hours to reach the convent of molten face nun). I hope it does well for a sequel to address these very same things.
Very likely haha, I agree, everything from the sprites to the lore is more than acceptable, it's just a shame the final product could have been A LOT better than it was, gutting really
The lore explained is everything before the game actually starts, not during or after, but you got me there, I do indeed speak 7 words which I shouldn't have xD my bad! I've luckily not done anything like that on any other videos especially my most recent, I'll add some sort of warning, thanks for the feedback
@@ZealwoodGaming nah you're good mate, I realised after I watched the first cutscene. I just hadn't played the game yet. I'm glad I started though it kicks ass. The only issue I have is that the voice actors all kinda sound like TH-camrs that do Dark Souls lore.
The creators of Blasphemous should partner up with Midway Games to remake Mortal Kombat Mythologies with an extended story line.. this is the perfect time to start bringing back the 2D/3D scrolling games.. This 2 companies together can make an awesome MK Mythologies game.. They can take my $$money$$
@@ZealwoodGaming I try to find their info, but i dont understand much about game requests.. but if someone can tweet it and a revisiting video of MK mythologies and the potential it could have in today's time, we might have something in our hands... just spread the word..
Now don't get me wrong here I did and have enjoyed the game until I stopped playing for a few days, Now I cannot bring myself back to finish and the main reason for this is backtracking, it has felt like a grind to backtrack all of the time and I just simply think to myself I cannot be bothered with all the backtracking when I consider getting back into it which is a shame, especially when there are other games to play like outer worlds.
I completely agree, obviously metroidvania games are supposed to be backtrack heavy, but when a game feels like a chore to do so it's never a good thing, as you said, plenty of other games out there that execute this much better then Blasphemous
If your not familiar with these kinds of games, Blasphemous would be a good start, if you fancy a harder, more fun challenge, Hollow Knight would be a better choice I'd say 👌
*SPOILER* warning // 5:08 - 5:10 or 5:02 - 5:39 if you would prefer to not hear any kind of lore description whatsoever
i'm here to figure out if it worth my time to play. now i don't need any time to play it cuz you spoil everything. thank you for saving my time.
