Blasphemous lore is based on the architecture, art, music and culture from Spain, Andalucía to be more specific. Spanish lenguage recommended. Amazing game
As an Andalusian myself, I played in English because I usually play games in English but I used the Spanish dub for more immersion, also, the voice actors actually talks like the old jargon of Andalusia!
The Penitent One’s headgear is NOT a reference to Pyramid Head. The Penitent One's design is based on the sambenito, the uniform used by some brotherhoods during Holy Week to display penance. His helmet also closely resembles a capirote, a long, pointed hat that originated from the flagellant brotherhoods of Spain.
Thank you. I hate when people assume game designs are just references to games. The game is literally named blasphemous, everything in it is bases off of religious imagery, namely from spanish history, if I'm not mistaken
I can vouch for Blasphemous, Remnant, and Death's Door. All absolutely incredible games. Love these indie highlights you do Jirard, keep up the good work. 👍
Man, your content is always a treat to see in my feed. Literally everything you produce on this channel is so fun to watch. I appreciate you and your team's hard work.
LOVED Death's Door! Played it again with just the umbrella as soon as I beat it. It was fun realizing I didn't have to beat the boss of an area to be able to go onto the next, so I went and got all the spells and upgrades before I even fought the Manor Witch on my second play through.
I completed Salt&Sanctuary, Death's Door, Blasphemous, and Remnant. All of them were memorable and fullfilling gaming experiences. Ender Lilies is a unique soulsborne metroidvania that turned out to be more than these titles and it really hasn't gotten the attention it deserves
Lies of P and Lords Of The Fallen (2023) are now my favorite Souls likes. Lies of P is q masterpiece and while LoTF has issues it really is an amazing game. For those of you that gave LoTF a second chance you know what I'm talking about.
You’re just absolutely my favorite TH-camr, the constant effort put in each and every time With an incredible team and run by one of the coolest people I’ve seen. Thank you for being a badass
Unworthy is such an under rated game IMHO. I think that it gets pushed aside due to the fact that the graphic style leaves much to be desired. That said, the world building, and souls-like, SotN-esque gameplay is pure and highly engaging. Glad to see this game get a bit of love.
Coincidentally, I just finished Remnant today. Very good game that punches above its weight for content, varied enemies, good lore. I definitely hope it gets a sequel. Getting the Iskal Queen and the Graveyard Elf to spawn in the same adventure run was fucking MADDENING though. Must have easily taken 60 attempts.
OMG YESSS Thanks for talking about this amazing Blasphemous!! This was a game on Kickstarter, i remember 4-5 years ago when it was announced, I was so excited to play it! It's amazing guys, a 2D pixelated MASTERPIECE! I highly recommend it, it's on every platform, and it had free updates and a sequel was just announced!
Blasphemous was such a fantastic game. I played through the whole game and 100% it. The world was so dark and ambient, the combat was clean and quick. Just a great experience all around!
Also Deaths Gambit! That game has a ton of fun and depth! Maybe once you've tried out the others on the list, I couldn't recommend Deaths Gambit enough
I didn't expect every contender to be on this list. But Ender Lillies: Quietus of the Knights was sorely missing. Best metroidvania of the last few years and very soulsborne in story and ambience. 10/10
This video made me go back and try blasphemous again, I'm glad I did I really enjoyed it and even ended up getting the platinum. Speaks to the quality of the video, thanks man 🤟
Great video as usual, Flawless J! Like many gamers I do indeed love Bloodborne and you've given me something new to look into. You may or may not ever see this, but if you happen to just know that even though it was G4 (so sorry about all that btw) that turned me onto following you regularly, I now look forward to your new uploads like a kid on Christmas Eve. I'm here to stay as a fan and a sub and I'm obviously not the only one so thank you and keep up the phenomenal work, brother. You're gonna be ok and we got your back. ✌️😁
Bloodborne has bounced back and forth as being my favorite game of all-time and I’ve replayed it almost yearly since release. That being said, I’d trade a whole Bloodborne extended universe of games for one 10/10 sequel to Sekiro.
Finally! Been asking you to cover Blasphemous for over a year now! And as much as I love that game, gotta say that anyone looking for another amazing Metroidvania that absolutely blew me away, and is really challenging, you have to check out Aeterna Noctis. That game should be getting so much more hype than it has, mainly because the game journalists who covered it couldn't get past the first stage since they are journalists first, and gamers second so they suck at games and therefore gave it a middling score. One of the best I've ever played to be honest so check it out if you are looking for a top flight and challenging game.
YES! Blasphemous is so awesome! It's dark, gory, and plays up the Christian and Spanish iconography. All the dialogue is super poetic and the story is so twisted and macabre. I had a great time playing it.
I remember the first time I played bloodborn. I had never touched the Souls game in my life, and I remember hearing about bloodborn when it first came out but didn't have the time. eventually, I picked it up from the store and gave it a shot. I remember thoroughly getting thrashed for the first few hours but then learning and improving and becoming something stronger; I remember having so much fun with the PVP and absolutely becoming a monster at parrying players. I remember the unique bosses I had come across, the amazing music, the wonderful and horrifying world that was crafted, the Eldritch insanity that had befallen upon me. It was an enjoyable experience, absolutely thrilling, and that is why it had become my favorite game of all time. It is my absolute number one, and I make it a tradition to recomplete it every year in October. Bloodborne wasn't just a game that I picked up and enjoyed. It was an experience. It was something that actually changed me as a person and made me appreciate and love the soul series and Elden ring, and I will never forget it
Blasphemous is awesome. I love everything about it, the art, the weird story, the gameplay (I'm a big castlevania fan.), and everything else about it. It's such an awesome world. Although it is much harder than games like Castlevania or Bloodstained: ROTN it's still fairly accessible once you get the controls and timing down as long as you don't mind trying again and again on certain bosses and areas. Thanks my man, good stuff!-SLD
@@gerardotejada2531 lol Ah yes your absolutely right they are rough, I have actually tried a all of the older ones with emulators but I'll admit never beat em. I'm 32 so I'm no spring chicken, id like to go back and give em an honest run.
As a native spanish speaker I highly recommend playing blasphemous in Spanish even if it is not your mother tounge the spanish voices are incredible. Try it you will learn some of the language and everything sounds more natural than in English.
I doubt that people that speak English will think things "sound more natural" than in a language they can understand. Might be worth a shot on a second playthrough when you already understand what is being said and the context.
super glad to see Unworthy on the list, that game was criminally overlooked at launch, but seems to have gathered a bit of a following by now - rightfully so, the game is brilliant, both in terms of gameplay and atmosphere. Fair warning, though, Unworthy is fucking HARD, soulslike metroidvanias are my favourite genre and I've played a lot of them, but this game just kept kicking my ass.
Somewhere out there in the Multiverse there is a clean shaven Jirard who is a speedrunner, with his very successful show about skippi g as much as possible in his favorite games. Oh the horror
Man, I was so excited when I saw Unworthy as the last game mentioned. Really enjoyed it. By the way, I hope you're taking the death of G4 ok. If not, we're here for you.
Late to the party but I’d like to strongly suggest including Hyper Light Drifter in this list. Duel-wielding sword and shotgun was a pure fun, just like in Bloodborne.
Those of you interested in Remnant: From the Ashes should check it Chronos: Before the Ashes, originally it was VR exclusive but does take place before Remnant and now can be played without VR as a normal soulslike experience
Probably the best thing about Bloodborne is that it was made as a sort of testing grounds for what FromSoftware wanted to do with Dark Souls 3, and when DS3 came out people were like "...weee....like the other one better." It's admittedly astonishing that it's one of the most beloved games of all time and yet Sony, for whatever reason, refuses to get anyone to port it to PC.
Another good indie game that leans hard into the kind of world Bloodborne inhabited os Vigil: The Longest Night! You play a huntress who is tasked with purifying the land of nightmares and investigating a terrible plague. The game has a bevy of tough bosses. Weird, horrifying foes and monsters, the world obfuscates its truths. Plenty of rpg mechanics, powers, abilities, and lots of map exploration!
Death's Door was great. Would definitely recommend people give it a go. I really liked the weapon variety and boss designs. Looking forward to giving Blasphemous a try. Looks like it is on PS Plus.
Remnants lore is deeper then it appears at first. Its a multiverse with a pretty deep backstory. Loved that game… beat it and killed many of the side bosses to play with some of the cool weapons and grab more lore.
My problem with Bloodborne (and the Souls subgenre as a whole) isn't the gameplay loops - I actually really like the idea of it. I just don't have the time anymore to dedicate to games that basically require me to treat them as a second job to get good enough at them. I'd like a game that had similar mechanics but dialled the difficulty back a tad, or gave me options to tweak it. It's where Fallen Order got things right IMO.
Lmao, *Like a second job* , bloodborne as bad as it is, is actually a really short game. If it really takes you that much effort to clear a pretty small game like that than you shouldnt game at all really
Even though I like DS1, DS2, and Bloodborne, DS3 and Elden Ring always felt like they tried to be both a Souls game and like Bloodborne and not feeling like either, so I'm really glad Blasphemous exists. It somehow feels more like Bloodborne and Dark Souls to me than the recent FromSoft games.
This one isn't out yet, but there's a promising looking indie game in development by the name of "Crowsworn", which cites Bloodborne, Hollow Knight, and Devil May Cry as it's primary inspirations. If you take one look at the game, all of these are immediately apparent. Check it out if you haven't already!
I can definitely recommend Remnant with a pal. Great game that absolutely needs to be played with a friend! Plus, Yuri Lowenthal is a voice actor in it! (Marvel's Spider-Man and many other great voices)
Heck yeah, so glad the first video with this format did well enough for you to do a second! Really enjoying these recommendations and how you pinpoint exactly which itch left by a game these other games might scratch c:

Blasphemous is my number one game of all time. I was completely blown away by the story, The Art, the level design, the music. the game is amazing.

Oh Death’s Door ❤ It has quickly become one of my all time favorite games, don’t miss this one!
