  • Squeezed and isolated today to meet the demands of rapid urbanisation, Chandaka was once part of the vast Eastern Ghat forests and the Central Indian Elephant Range. Known for its sizeable population of elephants, this forest is barely 20 kms away from the city limits of Bhubaneswar. Covering an area of 193.39 sq km, this sanctuary is spread out on either side of the Old Grand Trunk Road built during the reign of Sher Shah Suri in the 16th century. Chandaka has trees and plants of a numerous species. The plentiful availability of Kumbhi, Bara, Osta, Bamboo, Lajakuli here is a major attraction for elephants for whom the sanctuary provides a safe and secure habitat. Apart from elphants, Chandaka Wildlife Sanctuary is home to many other creatures too.

Administration can introduce Bullock Cart ride or horse ride with trained staff instead of electrical vehicle which will give different experience, as I have experience of how tourism in Africa and Kerala am giving this suggestion

Elephant reserves in India are various protected areas, which conserve elephants and their natural habitats in the country. Along with elephants, several other species of wildlife are protected in these areas. These areas help in checking the depletion of elephants by means of illegal hunting and poaching. These areas have been established under Project Elephant, which was launched by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India in the year 1992. Thirty two elephant reserves exist in India, as of 2010. These reserves occupy a total area of about 69,583 square kilometers. Given below are elephant reserves in different parts of India.
