While my daughter napped I made these mittens. I tweeked the pattern so they look more like cupcakes. When the hubby came home he said "Oh look at those! You figured out how to do thumbs now." I smiled and he said "Let me guess, your Australian Angel showed you how to do it." Hahahaha! Yup! Your videos have helped me out so many times. I really appreciate it. Looking forward to learning more.
I know this video is several years old but I have just come across to and it is one of the better tutorials on making mittens for small children. This is easy to follow and I really enjoyed listening to you as you were going through the tutorial at a pace that we could follow. Thank you for putting this together and the size guide as well.😃👍
Thank you for the wonderful tutorial. You are an inspiration and your way of teaching is perfect. I have 9 grandbabies that I'm making these mittens for and thanks to you I will have them done in a jiffy.
I made a pair for my 3 year old she loooooooves them she squealed when I showed them to her she loves the cold weather and the snow she is excited she will get to wear them if it does snow this year😍
Thank you for making this tutorial. I was just saying how my son needs some mittens. Came across this tutorial. I absolutely love how you explain. It was so easy to follow along. I made 3 pairs of mittens. It was so easy to adjust a custom size for my sons hand. Thank you for this video.
I used this pattern to make a pair for my 5YO boy. I added extra rows in the fingers and extra rows of ribbing. Note: Instead of adding elastic, I used a hook one size smaller for the ribbing and it worked beautifully! Still stretches enough to get his hand in, but right enough to stay on!
Love the mitts and especially in all sizes....that is wonderful! Thank you so much for these tutorials they are much appreciated. I have these mitts on top of my to do list.
Thanks so much, I love the pattern. This was my first time doing mittens, and I love them. My daughter is 16 months, and small for her age. So, I used a 5mm hook and made a wrist tie. Works great!
I like making mittens using these directions that start from the top of the mitten because it looks very neat. When I crochet the 6 rows after making the thumb opening, I decrease once on each side of the second row making 2 decreases on this second row.. I work the third row with no decrease. On the forth row, I decrease twice (one decrease on each side below thumb). I decrease a total of 4 stitches in all and this tapers the mitten without needing to add elastic making the mittens neater looking.. After the sixth row, I start the ribbing for below the wrist.
Another happy subscriber....love the mits....I used a 5mm hook with super saver and 4.5 for the ribbing. I also decreased 2 stitches for wrist.. The wrist band I chained 10 and bpsc similar to a head band. Found it fit snugger. Love your tutorials.
Thank you for this great tutorial! This is my first crochet project, so I'm a complete beginner. Just finishing a pair for my little boy. Took me no time to complete! :)
Thank you so much...I did it, however it's large for a 1 year young. Should I follow same instructions and use a smaller hook size to obtain her hand size.? I look forward to you answer.
Tried a pattern from a book, but this seems to make a bit more sense and to be a bit easier and faster. The other pattern uses sc stitches the whole time. I'll have to try yours now.
Hi Twin Mum, this pattern was written with several sizes so the stitches will be different on each one. The written pattern has all the sizes. www.bobwilson123.org/mittens-newborn-to-xl-adult-crochet-pattern.html
so( round1) magic circle 9 hd crochet (round2) 2 in each st leaving you with 18 stitches (round3) 2 single hd crochet then 2 in 1 stitch then 2 single stitch (repeat) ending with 38 stitches?🤔 then 5 rows of half double crochet then finger hole lol then 5 more rows of hd crochet ECT .... the cuff part with ribbing am I on track lol ?
Question: do you have to do a slip stitch each round on the ribbing? You showed it a few round then said just to keep going until you like how long it is. I have never done ribbing so I didn't know if it needed a slip stitch every time you go around. Thanks, good video.

I love your work I love to make gloves but I never did it before but ill gona trie
Nice, but the wrist part, I would decrease and increase a lil at the end because it looks really loose.
the wrist is fitted due to using a rib. you can also do your cuff in a smaller hook if needed
Tried a pattern from a book, but this seems to make a bit more sense and to be a bit easier and faster. The other pattern uses sc stitches the whole time. I'll have to try yours now.
Thank you, I would say the sc stitches would make this a very warm project :)
I love your work
Hi Melissa, thank you so much for your wonderful comment, happy crochet
I was wondering why you don't say how many stitches are supposed to be in each round as you go? It would help immensely

Hello, the slip stitch would only be worked when you have finished making the ribbing
Thank you for watching
It'd be helpful if you'd tell us how many students we should have at the end of each row.

To get the same size as you have in your video, I'm gonna have to drop down to a 4.5mm hook, Is there something I'm doing wrong? O.o
No your not doing anything wrong at all. Everyone has a different tension and will use a different hook size.
