NE OBLIVISCARIS - Painters of the Tempest BASS playthrough OFFICIAL

  • Cygnus here performing 'Painters of the Tempest PartII' in it's entirety from the 2014 album Citadel. I have had many requests to do a play through of this song. It's the most challenging song for me. Given it's length, dynamics and attention to detail.
    Recorded straight from AXE FX into protools 8. Sony HDR-CX130 camera linked up in Sony Vegas 11. So hard to line up perfectly. Sorry for the minuscule delay!

    We'll all miss you Cygnus. You were one of the defining features of NeO and I'm not sure how it will ever manage to be as good without you. Best of luck with all of your future endeavors. Infinite density is cool as hell, hopefully we get more from that project

      Yeah. Martino is phenomenal, but our man here is no less a virtuoso, and shaped so much of the band's hard elegant sound. Plus, NOW THE BALANCE OF LEFTIES IN THE BAND IS OFF! BOOH!

    I love this. I love the bass tone being more funky and jazzy in sound, similar to Martin Mendez' tones from Opeth tracks. I also love how a lot of it is very simple - but yet sounds absolutely kickass. One of the things that makes me consider a bassist to be fantastic.

  • @havokmusicinc
    @havokmusicinc 8 ปีที่แล้ว +72

    Marvelous. One of the biggest reasons I like NeO is the progressives without being selfindulgent, and the virtuosity without loss of soul. For the most part, I, as a hobbyist, could play this bass part - and I love that. There are enough Dream Theaters and Archspires and Dying Fetuses in the metal world already - so for something to be so good while being technically restrained is awesome. This is the kind of bass part people study to learn the intricacies of it all.

    • @icipher6730
      @icipher6730 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Please, don't group Archspire with something like Dying Fetus. They may sound like a boring shredfest akin to Brain Drill on the surface level, but they actually use ridiculous overt technicality and extreme speed to create a very eerie, erratic atmosphere (I call it "The Faceless on crack", lol) and some of the most fun and memorable melodies of all progressive death metal releases of the last decade.

    Before, when I used to watch your playthroughs, it brought me a lot of joy. Watching this now, I am in tears. My vision is not clear as I write this. The realisation that I will not be able to watch NeO live with you on stage ever in my life crushes me. You know, my feelings go in sync with this track, begins with numbness that kept the sadness in somnolence. As the track goes on, the feelings come out one after the other and at a certain point, I can't take it anymore.
    Brother, I may never have met you but you are one of the best people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. If it weren't for you, I may not have even been alive right now. Thank you for everything. May nature bless you.

    i liked more the bass on Portal Of I, because in this disc i feel like the bass was kinda wipped out in favor of everything else to be honest, the drum is louder so you had to pay attention to tell apart the bass from the snare, and the guitars owershadowed the bass, people said that the drum in this disc is "heavier", but in Portal Of I it was heavy too (Im not saying its not heavier because it is), only that the bass drum was sorta drawn back from the snare and you could tell the patterns perfectly, and the bass guitar was more natural or organic i guess, it was always there not on top of everything but in its place... this is the kind of band where there should be a really great master so we can hear that sweet bass on all it`s gloriousness...
    So guys please for your next masterpiece take advise from Horrendous and Opeth which lasts discs sounded amazing (master wise or wherever its called) and dont make it louder...i would give my ass away for a remaster of those two discs (mostly citadel).. rant aside, i still listen to this album more than anything else.
    sorry for the grammar

    Sucks you're not in the band anymore. I would have never developed my playing the way i did without listening to this album countless times.

    What kind of a bass is that? Saw you playing it at your Toronto show with Cradle and thought it sounded and looked amazing.

    can anyone explain me why there isn't the "thing that is supposed to be here" ( i'm french and don't the the english equivalent ) at the end of the neck?

      +Just 4 Run The tuning knobs are at the bottom end of the bass do it doesn't go out of tune. This type of bass also has a different sound and feel to it.

      +Just 4 Run What those guys said, but also it allows for much more comfortable playing as there is far less weight at the end of the guitar, therfore you dont need to waste fretting energy by holding the weight of the guitar up while youre playing

    I'm a bit out of the loop on why Cygnus left NeO. Was it because of personal/artistic differences, or what?

    • @rbnh9827
      @rbnh9827 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It was personal matter. A bit controversial too. But what he did in two albums was mindblowing and he will be remembered for that .
