    Omaha's terminal is nice and has a good cafe. But if you're ever able to tour primes terminal in Missouri do it. It is massive. The Lakeland terminal in Florida isn't anything brag about. It serves it's purpose but that's about it. The old terminal in Allentown Pa was hideous. Glad it's gone. Thanks for the memories.

      Didn't get to the cafe since it was the middle of the night. Kevin has been. We like the Werner Terminals. Good to hear Prime has a nice terminal in Missouri. We think it's interesting to see the different facilities. We did a tour of Swift Headquarters in Phoenix. That was pretty impressive too.

  • @hildegardsgoat6776
    @hildegardsgoat6776 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Yes. I agree about the pay, that it should be competitive. I conducted an experiment today. I called Werner to find what they would pay me with fifteen years of experience. .52 cpm is what he told me. Wow. I am making .65 cpm in my current job. An old co-worker of mine, over at Old Dominion--.78 cpm. Of course, that is hauling doubles. Really not a big deal. I used to do it. I have been offered several otr jobs at .71 cpm.--I am happy where I am though. The difference between .71 cpm and the rate, I believe you are at... .48 cpm? With a modest average of 2,500 miles weekly is between 25k and 30k more gross yearly, over what Werner is paying.
    This really concerns me. I have been studying this for many years. How is it okay that these goliath, starter companies, that are kind enough to take on students, cannot pay a reasonable rate? Between their low rate of pay and all the nonsense they engage in--their drivers are hovering around minimum wage and a little above, when hours worked are calculated into the equation. Our time has value. We all work so hard out here and our pay should be commensurate with our sacrifices and hard work.
    I had a similar experience with Conway--nice, flashy terminals with all the bells and whistles, terrible pay and terrible treatment of drivers when it came down to it. Something I have noticed with big companies like this that exploit fresh drivers is that they load up on "selling" the driver on the company from orientation forward. It is a type of indoctrination to try and garner the driver's sense of pride and loyalty towards the company--in order to try and hold onto the driver for as long as possible.
    Investment in a trucking terminal in this way looks really good on paper and looks good from appearnces; but really, how much use are the actual drivers getting out of these facilities? How often is any one driver able to use these amenities? Who has got the time? At the end of the year, what really matters is the quality of our lives on the road and how much money we earned for the time we spent working. Our time has value.
    The best companies out there don't operate like this. They don't advertise. They don't invest multi-millions in nice, shiney terminals. They just pay and treat their drivers well. Their reputations precede them by word of mouth from one driver to another.
    I am glad you are enjoying your time and I am glad your truck is doing well. Just some food for thought.
    All best.

      You sir are 100 percent correct. I started with this company after I retired from a career in Law Enforcement. I did orientation in Georgia and honestly was turned off on day one. The instructors were disinterested, cocky, and condescending. The facility was Ok, but this crap of putting strangers in a motel room for days. And because I was new to this life, I had no idea o would be sharing a room with an unknown person. (I ended up spending my own money to rent a room without a cohabitant)
      Then listening to the sales pitch about salaries and the truck leasing option (so you can be an O/O is a lie. By the time you factor in expenses, and time you are working and not being paid, you are basically making minimum wage.
      Now, I am not so much bashing this company, as a lot of the mega carriers are the same. I was more annoyed with the staff at the Georgia site and the dismissive way the dealt with the new people. If I was younger, or more forgiving in nature, I may have stuck it out. But the straw the broke the camel’s back for me was when I was picked up by my trainer and driven directly to another hotel in another state because he was taking a few days off. So here I was again stuck in a hotel, faced with sharing a room with a 19 yr old I did not know and who barely spoke English (his choice, not due to birth) so more money out of my pocket to have my own room for three days.
      After a conversation with my wife I decided to come home. I was dropped off at the airport and I flew home.
      I am glad K&T are enjoying their time with this company. I am sure there are good things about this company that I did not get to see. And the pay issue was not a factor for me, I get a decent retirement pension. I just could not get past the way the staff in Georgia treated us.

That's why EVERY person in a company matters. One bad recruiter, instructor, trainer, or fleet manager can sour the entire experience and cast a shadow over the whole company. And we had not heard of anyone having to share hotel rooms. We thought everyone got their own. Hopefully, you will find a better alternative that works out great for you!!!!!
