It’s Sunday night. It’s winter. You’ve got school tomorrow and you don’t wanna go so you pretend to be ill on the sofa. This advert comes on. Nostalgia…
HOLY SHIT THE NOSTALGIA I WAS SO LITTLE WHEN THIS GOT RELEASED My family were broke as And I watched these ads and they made me happy Thank you Lloyd’s tsb
My dog used to 'sing along' to the music when this advert came on. We had to say goodbye to him yesterday, so I decided to look it up. Happier memories.
aww, that’s terribly sad. it’s so cool that you remembered that your dog did that though! and they only just passed away this past year or so, meaning they lived a long life
13 years later I’d just like to say thank you, might sound sad and ridiculous but this takes me way back to a time when things were simpler, before hashtags and COVID and bills etc. Thank you, the music alone gives me goosebumps
I cry every time when I hear or think about this advert because it used to air so frequently when I was a kid that it was engrained into my mind, just the simple, almost angelic singing.. it takes me right back to being a kid again, much simpler times...
This advert combined with the nostalgic Channel 4 lineup paints such a vivid picture of mid-2000s. That era of television, with its predictable scheduling and iconic ads, feels uniquely tied to childhood memories. For me this Lloyds TSB advert was particularly memorable because of its surreal, dream-like animation and hauntingly atmospheric music (It really unsettles me). The combination of the seemingly outdated visuals and eerie yet soothing soundtrack gives me that strange feeling of being in a liminal space-like revisiting a fragment of time that feels both familiar and distant. I remember always watching Channel 4, watching Come Dine with Me, the iconic Simpsons intro with Homer electrocuted, and the transition to the the show at 6pm followed by Hollyoaks perfectly encapsulates that cozy yet oddly surreal and scary feeling of family evenings in front of the TV. I must’ve been about 4-6 watching Channel 4 particularly during dinner where my family would sit on the sofa which just amplifies the nostalgia-it’s such a common, yet comforting experience as it was during a period where many of us didn’t really have any responsibilities yet making sure we finished the food given to us by our parents. It’s fascinating how these little routines, combined with the media of the time, can leave such a deep emotional imprint.
Absolutely! Such care free times. The era of television when ad's had actual effort put into them and weren't homogenous like now. The characters and visuals in general in this ad I have never forgotten to this day! I remember seeing the old 2007 banking leaflets with the Lloyds TSB characters on the front in a history museum and I was instantly drawn to it, remembering those days of old, such a great leaflet that stood out too, man....those animated characters, they are designed well and not forgotten easily. The soundtrack, by The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra 'Wild Swans' is haunting and has a sort of melancholy to the vocals. It can make you teary eyed for sure and for me, reminds me of a better time period and era in general compared to the depressing times of today.
This tune brings me back to a more simple time. Im from Singapore and i vaguely remember the ad i saw back on TV in a hotel room in the UK. I do not remember the exact ad i saw but this tune reminds me of those fond memories. Thank you Lloyds and thank you TH-cam.
I’ve always been a person so fond about nostalgic childhood memories. Especially the little things such as adverts like this one. Top tier advert just like the lynx 2012 final edition which has been discontinued unfortunately, the memories will fade but never burn.
huge respect for uploading this. nostalgia hit the roof. seems like i am not the only one in this comment section to appreciate how beautiful this song is. wow
This brought a tear to my eye I remember watching this back in 2008 with my mum, dad and sister. My dads just passed away suddenly 2 months ago he was 45 and me and my sister don't see much of each other much with us growing up living our own life's and my mums turned to drink so This made me smile but also cry at the same time because now I'm sat here watching it on the sofa but this time by my self. Wish I could go back in time when everything was okay its weird the little things that bring back memory's I miss you Dad xxxx
+Daniel Hornett I have been quite impressed with many advertisements for both TSB and Lloyds actually. I do quite like the TSB drawings with the whistling music. The current Lloyds adverts are slightly more 'global' and show the Black Horse heritage, but the initial 'Moments that Matter' adverts weren't brilliant IMO... What about you?
And this is why I signed up to Lloyds Bank when I was old enough for a bank account.. because of this masterpiece of an advent! (Even tho they were partnered with TSB at the time)
Man, how fast life goes by. I remember seeing this back in the day every now and then, loving it of course and now? well, I'm thinking to myself, "Where did that time go?" life moves fast and if you don't take five minutes once in a while, you'll miss out on so much. What I wouldn't give to go back to those times of 2007. I was younger, my whole life was ahead of me and ads on TV were still top tier. Fast forward to now, everything is so homogenous, streamlined and there's no expression or flair in most things anymore, ad's especially. Lloyds really should of made this their default theme for all of their ads going forward. Looking back at this time period from... damn! seventeen years ago? fills me with bittersweet memories and pessimism. Yes, the crash of 07 was around the corner etc but I would still give anything to go back to these times, everything felt different and ad's still had real effort put in by ad agency's, not like now where everything is market data driven and all about trends that will go out of style within five minutes. How can you not shed tears watching this? Such a masterclass in ad making, from the visuals to the music and the narration. Everything comes together perfectly and I still find it difficult to come back to this ad but I do it since it's painful and reminds me of a better time period, for me and many others out there. No decade is perfect but every decade, (excluding nowadays) had something different, everything has come to a stand still now it seems and I'm depressed thinking of the current time period and the longing to go back to this decade, even if the end of the early 2000's wasn't far off. Man, what a decade... R.I.P
I love this advert so much, it actually made me switch my cuurent account from HSBC to Lloyds!! (Now that's marketing for you... I am a bit of an advertiser's dream, though!!0
