I'm new to vinyl so I have a question. If I'm not using smart vinyl then I need to use iron on for cutting boards or the coasters? Could you use permanent vinyl instead? Thank you so much!!!

I have done this several times with wood and have had zero issues. If you really want to make sure they are on forever, I would do epoxy on top. That is what I plan to do with the ones I am gifting. Mainly because I don’t know how rough they will be on them and I want them to last.
It is such a fun machine, but I get it. It is important to take care of other things first. If anyone is looking at getting you a gift or gift card… The Explore 2 is on sale until the run out of inventory. If not…Don’t sweat it. I always try to think of alternatives when possible. No one should feel pressured to purchase a Cricut.

Did you put something on the vinyl after applying to cutting board so you can wash it?
