DAMN. is much more in line to Kendrick by trying to send his message over mainstream and digestible music for audiences but MM&BS went too hard on the message and cut a lot of the digestibility hence its got no replay value and not a lot of the album has stuck around. Retroactively I think the album shouldn't be an 8. Kendrick had gone from being like Common and Talib to now being like Immortal Technique. He's lost his mainstream power and traded it for being experimental and focusing on the message more which doesn't work for what he's established. Damn is the opposite to all of that.
