    I think it's the fact that people are interested in him for other reasons and not just because of the way he looks. The people who invest in their looks probably enjoy being "objectified" because that was their goal, to attract with their face or bodies and in that case objectification may not be considered a bad thing. The problem comes when someone is valued only for their appearance regardless of their talents and efforts.

  • @clrobertson13

    Everyone has their own feelings and perspectives about this. If you have no issue showing off your body, that is your choice. If you don't want to, that's up to you. If you don't want to see it, you also have a choice of not going to a concert, watching a movie, etc. BUT do not impose your own feelings and thoughts on others... unless what others are doing is pure hate, evil, racism, and bigotry... then judge, bash, etc. them all you want. Hate has no place on this planet.

      I mean, from the religious perspective, when we were close to God we were naked and proud. But when we separated from God we realized we were naked, and then we began to feel shame and covered ourselves with the skin of other animals.
      So, no…shame is a secular invention.

    While it’s reasonable that the pretty boy dancer doesn’t understand what it means to objectify someone, it’s fairly pathetic that the host, Zach, doesn’t understand the meaning of his own question. FYI - objectify: to degrade someone to the status of a mere object, to value someone only for your own personal gratification and then forgotten, abandoned, or discarded, rather than seeing them as a complex person with emotions, intelligence, family & friends, etc. who should be treated with respect and consideration.

    • @huzaifazahid6893
      @huzaifazahid6893 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So according to Ross's response, do you think Ross himself sees objectifying according to how you described it, which btw I think is true and well said, or it's more of a positive complimentary thing that "oh people like me shirtless, that's really cool, I'll give them more of this.

  • @danlaplante
    @danlaplante 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Ross is secure, being objectified doesn’t threaten his sense of self. And, he’s privileged. because he acquired fame before he became a sex symbol, his experiences haven’t been only those where his singular value is based on his looks.

    I started by looking at videos of Ross taking of his shirt. But he is a very talented singer. Its a good group whose lead singer usually winds up shirtless by the end of a concert. Win-Win.

  • @miguelcastelo4831
    @miguelcastelo4831 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    There is a fundamental diference refering to objectification that's not mentioned here. Celebrities, especially those who fit within the beauty standard, will always be objectified, men or women. That should be ok because most people won't know said people in a personal level at all, which ultemately will always lead to objectification. However, the difference is that women are typically objectified on a regular basis. It is the norm. Moreover, it is a fact that in the music induntry, sexualization of female celebrities is also a regular event, whereas, you see Ross stating that it was his own personal choice. In the end, it comes to the choice.

    • @Torstenn-b3x
      @Torstenn-b3x 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Good points. I think there's a also another fundamental difference between the way society views female and male celebrities. I think for a sexy shirtless guy, even when people are lusting after him, they don't think he's brainless or talentless. But you often hear for a similarly sexualised female celebrity doubts as to her level of talent - how talented is she _really_ or is it just the skin she's showing? I don't feel guys get that to the same extent.

    • @miguelcastelo4831
      @miguelcastelo4831 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Torstenn-b3x I totally agree with that. It's like men are seen through this inherent filter of capacity in societies eyes, whereas women are more prone to judgement and criticism.
