  • Between 2000 and 2002, Swedish Rallycross legend Per Eklund took the challenge of conquering Pikes Peak at the wheel of SAAB based machines.
    In 2002 he used the most extreme version ever built of the 9-3 model, with spaceframed chassis weighing only 950Kg and with the SAAB 2.0 Turbocharged engine producing almost 800Hp depending on boost levels.
    In the end, it won the Unlimited class with a 11:13.24 chrono marking an important step in the veteran´s career.

    Per set a record that would last for 12 years.
    No one could do better until they paved the roads.

    I seem this at Birmingham Autosport International show, in the Live Action Arena, years ago, it completely annihilated the Imprezzas and ALL the other cars featured in the show in a timed figure of eight circuit, over several laps, truly an awesome beast!! 😀

      Troll speed build the engine, Leif Ahl built the chassis and passed away 2 or 3 months after the victory. Actually the car is a silhouette that shares very few things with the original Viggen, maybe just the body outline.

    this thing has subarus awd and a saab b234r or it might be the 2 liter b204r. built by trollspeed. the normal viggen is only fwd if you didnt know.

      @johnstuckaiii 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tanyan rogue Thank you and I did realize that about the normal Viggen but forgot they used a Subaru 4wd system.
      Did they also use a Subaru tranny then as well?

    • @Thescarwing
      @Thescarwing 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      John Stucka III ye i think they did only thing that could hold the power ;).saabs gearboxes where never the strongest atleast in the older cars. the new gen 9-3 box are pretty good the one in the turbo x is super strong :). saab t5 series are really good engines its a shame the t7 has so many issues :(. a stock t5 b234r saab 9000 engine can make about 500 hp on stock internals with some stronger headstudds

      The ng9-3 from 07 is really nice the earlier ones have some electrical issues like the start key machanism glitch out or breaking the 2liter engine is capable off 300 stock if im not mistaken( with a bigger turbo). the twin turbo diesel is nice also, stay away from saabs 3 liter diesel that is a really bad engine. The 2.8 v6 in the ng9.3 is very fun and fast, some issues with those are ignition coils can break some times, they also arent very cheap to run its pretty thirsty engine.
      The 9-5 also the og 9-3 later models has a tendency to drink oil becouse it uses the T7 engine system where they put weaker piston rings in the engine makeing alot of blowby(also prone to pistons cracking if they arent mentained properly) they are nice if you can find a clean one the aeros are great fun and fast, There are some og9-3 with the T5 system the first years it was made before they changed. maintenace is important on them make sure the crankcase ventilation has been upgraded aswell.
      The 9000 has probebly the best engine of all the saabs but the gearboxes can be abit troublesome (works fine if you dont trash them) the 9000 has some rust problems tho like front fenders and in the rear. Most saab sadly has poor rust protection og9-5 and og9-3 rear fenders get eaten prety badly. ng 9-3 is abit better but can get pretty bad aswell.

      They should have just invested it in even better safety barriers but left it as a gravel road. It was a huge waste of money to resurface it into tarmac.
