Me and a friend had a spooky experience one late night in the Royal Hotel Norton Doncaster, we were sat at the bar talking about different experiences we had, my friend doubted that there were such things when a compass flew off the back shelf behind the bar and landed right in front of us both, needless to say my friend and myself including the manager at the time were shocked to put it mildly.😅

“And it’s not just the living that choose to hang around in Doncaster…..” The humour in that comment is not lost on Donny’s residents.

Just out of curiosity, why Epworth, as its in Lincolnshire although across the Trent?
You should go to Gainsborough next time.

Hiya, thanks for watching 😊 Epworth is a funny one isn't it, comes under Doncaster in its address and yet sits on the border of Lincolnshire and Yorkshire...I'd heard about the ghosts there and know people who have had first hand experiences at the Red Lion so felt it was a good one to include. Thanks for your feedback, I'll look at what I might be able to film in Gainsborough if I go that way on sometime

As someone firmly rooted in science I do find it hard to buy into the idea of ghosts and other paranormal anomalies. Still, I remain open minded and what we call ghosts may be a real thing but something else entirely. Anyway I was travelling through England a few months back and stopped at Owston Hall for the night. The hotel was nice and I cant fault the staff. However my night there was certainly odd and I wouldn't have though twice about it if my wife had not mentioned her experience the next day in the car. My wife was sleeping with my son in one of the doubles and myself on the other. As we initially went to bed I could feel a sort of unease and like there was a small presence at the bottom of my bed. Tired I shrugged and went to sleep. A few hours later in the middle of the night I awoke to sense an unnerving feeling of a great evil presence hovering above the area roughly where the other bed was (this is not something I experience anywhere else), I could almost make out the shape of something but it was huge and towering above the room. I went back to sleep assuming my imagination was just running wild and I tried to ignore the scary feeling. The next day my wife tells me in the car that she had an awful sleep and that it felt like something was pressing down on her in the middle of the night. She awoke to find the covers at the bottom of the bed and when she tried to pull them back up she felt a lot of resistance despite previously pulling them out from under the mattress. When I told her my experience we both felt this was more than just a coincidence and had a look online for any details of the hotel being haunted. There isnt much but trip advisor does have a review from a few months earlier of a man claiming to have met a man on multiple occasions who was probably not real.

Gosh that's quite a creepy story - thanks for sharing. I personally haven't heard about hauntings at Owston Hall, but it sounds like something quite dark is happening there...would be interesting to hear if any other guests have had a similar experience (other than the Tripadvisor reviewer)!

I have relations in Sunny Donny. Not been for a long time, 50 years? We are a military and Mining family so have links to coal mining areas of Scotland, Kernow/Cornwall and Northern England and Scottish and English barracks. It's said one of my ancient ancestors was seen to play his pipes on the battlements of St. George's Fort - once home of the Black Watch for whom many of the family have served, it has been our tradition since the forming of the 51st Highland Division and the Black Watch in 1725. but the clan are from the Outer Hebrides - you could say 'there can be only one'.

I've lived in Doncaster for over 40 years. It's now a City. The centre used to be full of brand name shops and had a vibrant market. Now it's just full of foreign scammers, pickpockets and spice heads monged out on the market area. I don't go in unless I have to because it's not the place it once was.

It's a shame and I agree with you, I've lived and worked in Doncaster - it does not feel as safe as it used to be, I think this is why people aren't venturing out so much into town. Shame because there are some really good people in Donny too

Hiya, thanks for watching 😊 that's really cool that you got to stay there and freaky that they did have to stop letting it out 😱 Dick Turpin seems to get everywhere doesn't he 😆 I feel 80% of pubs in Yorkshire have a story that the highwayman once stopped there.....he must have got about a bit 😆

Black Bess wasnt the horse belonging to Dick Turpin...its common knowledge that its a misconception. So i doubt its ghost haunts the place.

    • @TheWanderlustWayisback

Yes, good point! -There are so many legends surrounding Turpin and I think the Black Bess one people remember the most! I made another video on Turpin and it was fascintating to pick between the facts and myths. Thanks so much for watching and giving your feedback 😀
