  • Here's a video of this newly restored KW W900 on the Dyno. It has a Detroit Series 60 12.7 engine with 300,000 miles. We were able to take it to 655 HP on a modest tune.

Yes and yes. I still remember bringing home my first anteater IHC hood
In 97 it was a 94 with the 11.1 s60 in it. Mom asked me what the motor was. I said its a new Detroit.
I She said, how dare you bring a detroit into this family again. It had been 14 yrs since dad had a new worthless POS 8v92 Silver in a truck. S60 turned out to be a most excellent motor.

@@jerrykinnin7941 Detroit Series 60 was developed by an EX CAT Engineer to be better then the older CATS. It was a superior engine that needed less Liters to produce more Horsepower. 12.7 Liter Engine that produces more hp then an older 15 Liter Cat..... Just great engines. Not comparing to the 3406E or the C15 CAT by the way. Comparing to older Cats and Cummins. The 11.1 Detroit was a damn good engine. Slightly smaller Cylinder Bore and Stroke then a 12.7. The one question I've asked a few times that I've never got an answer on is "what is the difference between the DDEC4 6067MK60 and the 6067BK60"? Bought my '03 IH-9400i in 2010 (9 years ago) with a DDEC4 12.7L 6067MK60 with 665,600 miles. In March 2016 with 1,012,600 miles it needed in-framed when piston rings failed in two kits. When I got it in '10 it was only 370/435HP, and after rebuild I had Clarke Diesel make it a straight 470HP, said they couldn't give me anymore. I don't understand as my 1999 Volvo with 12.7L 6067BK60 put out 500HP/1650lb-ft from the factory. I have no bottom-end power and don't understand difference between MK60 and BK60 if they are identically the same engine. I haul a lot of loads grossed at 85k-90k pounds and it feels very weak for being 470HP. I love my Detroit motor but I'm begging for more power. This summer I'm planning on replacing 10-sp direct trans and 2.64 geared rearends for a 13-sp O.D. trans and possibly 3.58 to 3.91 ratio rearends. Not sure what ratio at this point with LP22.5 wheels. It's embarrassing going down highway at 95k-lbs at 15'ft wide with front/rear escorts and I can't climb hills (falling to 30-mph uphill) such as those on I-64 between Louisville and Evansville.

@@kevinkelley3657 What im thinking is can a High RPM engine like Detroit run at such Low RPM like a Cat ?
Same with them Paccarengines vs (sorry to say it) Volvo engines... The Paccar is slow between the 1200-1500rpm and starts getting (some sort of) power at 1500-1900 rpm... Which hasnt changed since the older DAF/Paccar engines... Where as the Volvo engines... they work (Like a Cat) best at 900-1400rpm from 1400 - 1700rpm the turbo really starts working and you'll get the HP required on a hillclimb (if you need it at all)
So can a Detroit run at LOW Rpm ? Without lugging to shutdown ? A Cat sure can it's built to work at low RPM and able to lug it's way up the hill.

these guys ass kissing Cats must have padded wallets. I've had all three and I wouldn't buy another Cat anything. for starters, it's an extinct engine, secondly it's too expensive. a platinum rebuild kit is over $30,000 .it takes half of that to build a Detroit. if you get an Accert, get ready to spend more money. actuators failing, oil cooler problems, turbos cracking, and liners in the blocks failing.they can become a nightmare and a money pit. the Detroit and Cummins are a better way to go and the Detroit is actually cheaper of the two.
