My Bowie was the same way at the bottom and it was a pain in the ass but I ground the edge down and gained over an inch and a half of more edge by doing so but I did it by hand with the worksharp guided field sharpener.
Good evaluation Matt. I've never owned or used this bowie, but I've always wondered about it. I am surprised the sheath doesn't allow for a carry option besides the dangler.
Thanks Joshua! I can understand it from the traditional standpoint, CS wanting to keep it classic in style. But practically, it just dangles too low. Either way, I recommend the knife for sure!
Ah yes, the Cold Steel version of the Western W49 Bowie knife. Although, the Cold Steel Wild West Bowie, does have a bit of a longer blade. I've had mine since 1985. Its still a great knife.
Yes to kinda rough finish!!! Also got it to where it'll smooth shave at all points on the blade!!! I have hairy arms, but they are mostly bald at the moment!!!
Jim Bowie would have run the edge all the way. It's not sharpened, because the factory sharpener is being lazy!!! Think about it there is a sharpening choil, which means by design the edge should run all the way to it, also you're correct about India as the place of manufacturing
The gaurd is big that's why the bottom of the blade is dull.. I use mine as a chef knife quite often and I have to move my chair back so the gaurd doesn't hit the cutting board.
Gotta say it: “That’s not a knife. THIS is a knife.” Good review.
*knoife 😂
I've had one for a couple years it came with a perfect finish I cut my guard down didn't like the over sized guard on it
Thank you so much for this review, I just bought this same bowie knife and am very pleased with it as well.
First time I've seen a review by you. Well done.

Wrap it in a paper towel soaked in warm vinegar overnight and it won't be so shiny!
@@lelandsmith2320 you could just put mustard on the blade for an hour and it'll be nice
@@MattRoseKnives you could actually set this sheath up for crocodile Dundee style of carry easily if you can sew things Abit!!!
