    Dead Cells is amazing. Something you didn't mention in the video, that I absolutely love, is the Spelunky influence. There are sometimes items hidden behind doors you have to spend gold on. But you don't really HAVE to spend gold on them - you can break the door down. You get the same curse as from cursed chests, though, so be careful.
    Oh, and don't break the door if it's got a heart behind it. Trust me on that one.

    • @Dxpress_
      @Dxpress_ 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The heart's not worth it anyway. I'd much rather prefer a 30% damage reduction amulet or something.

    • @Jurez1313
      @Jurez1313 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah true, I rarely ever get those. I found a "enemies that touch you freeze" and I think it's my favourite so far. That + shield = you take very little damage against multiple enemy setups

      NO NO NO FUCK OFF DO NOT COMPARE THIS SHALLOW HACK N SLASH DISGUISED AS A ROUGE LIKE TO THE FUCKING REVOLUTION OF A VIDEO GAME THAT SINGLE HANDEDLY MADE ROUGE LIKES MAINSTREAM SPELUNKY.
      GOD IM SO FUCKING TIRED OF EVERYONE CONSIDERING THIS GAME A MASTERPIECE BECAUSE IT HAS SOME NICE ART AND GAMEPLAY MASQUERADING AS AN IN DEPTH SOULSIAN LIKE GAME.

      This game is at least 5x better than Spelunky. I say that because I've put at least 5x as many hours in this game as I did Spelunky, mostly because Spelunky is a clunky piece of garbage with an uninspired art-style and a fully-random level design that fucks you over at every turn.

    No guys, seriously. You NEED to play Dead Cells! I have been playing this game a ton since it came out and I am in love! This is an early access game that feels more complete than most final release indie titles. At $15 this game is a STEAL! And I think it's on sale right now for the Steam Summer Sale too, so none of you have excuses!

    My favorite combo is Nutcracker + Fire Brand because it plays super safe. If you can just toss fire brands then you should just kill that way, otherwise Nutcracker stuns opponents with its first hit so even though it's slow you can still get its high damage 3-hit combo off before it wakes up. usually killing whatever you hit. It has a huge hitbox that doesn't stop for the first enemy like many other attacks, so it's good against crowds and fliers too.

    Fun fact: This game was originally a sequel(or maybe prequel) to a previous work by Motion Twin. That work being called Die2Nite, though it's called Hordes in France.
    It's a pretty intellectually focused, and unique game, a real pain to explain in text. Unfortunately it's not been updated, and some basic game maintenance has been neglected for a long while. The community isn't very strong anymore. Though you will mostly find fervent fans there at this time(and overly quiet people playing a social game, what's their deal?).
    I stopped playing because a griefer was town jumping for awhile, and another player was pestering me for advice, and help editing his fanfic, and then didn't go through with any of it. Also again, it's a social game; not worth playing if you don't get friends. I didn't exactly make any friends, and eventually I gave up waiting on anyone caring. But hey, you can always check the forums to get you and your friends organized if you want.
    In retrospect the griefer probably would have been stopped if someone bothered to contact the mods, but what matters is he sucked all the fun out.

    "Now of course Dead Cells has a lot of rogue-lite aspects, but not everything resets when you die. It has a little bit of Rogue Legacy influence.."

    Would Rogue Legacy be another example of a "Roguevania"? (Incidentally, RL is also strongly inspired by SotN)

    • @OmarM626
      @OmarM626 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rogue Legacy was likely one of the inspirations of Dead Cells. But Rogue Legacy doesn't necessarily have permanent upgrades such as runes, you can upgrade your equipment after each run but there's nothing stopping you from reaching an area due to lack of an upgrade, everything is already open and there's very little backtracking which metroidvanias are known for.

      Salt and Sanctuary is amazing too! It's a child of Dark Souls and Castlevania. Go with a great sword wielding warrior to start with, you can get one fairly early on and it's a beast early game but eventually you can transmute any great sword into the Jaws of Death with one of the bosses item drops it is fucking awesome, it's a giant pair of double edged scissors!

    Loved the game, introduced it to my brother, he's been practically playing it every chance he gets on the computer and won't stop talking about it.
    My brother is probably the most fond of zombie shooters (like Killing Floor and Dead space), so I'm happy he took a loving to a game more about strategy and reflex and equipment management rather than passing it off as something he didn't wanna play because it lacked enough gore C: hehe

    OO
    Motion Twin still exists?? I mean, I haven't heard much about them for quite some time.
    for those who don't know, Motion Twin is a french game company that had quite their successes doing internet-based games. As far as I can tell the company mostly had recognition from inside the french market, so hearing an american citing their name is just short of dream-like.
    for the curious, I suggest Hammerfest, a game where you play a bomb-throwing snowman. ;-)

      lhj321 while I understand your hesitation for early access games, this game put most if not all of my worries to rest. If you are into Metroidvania games and/or Souls-like games then I still recommend picking it up. This game has more polish than most final releases. At $15-17 bucks (depending on Steam sale) it is more than worth it, especially considering that the developers have mentioned that they are considering raising the price upon final release. I don't want to make you feel pushed to make a purchase you don't want, but I have over 10 hours into this game and I haven't seen a dull moment yet, and I know that there is still so much in store (I haven't even unlocked the coffin teleport yet).

    • @Sting_ray
      @Sting_ray 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fartsparkle yes, but chaotic in a good way (in my opinion). It's fast paced and Souls-like, leaning in the direction of a 2D Bloodborne.

    • @Sting_ray
      @Sting_ray 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fartsparkle think nothing of it. I also want to add that in the video, he is showing off a lot of intense things that include lots of enemies and items with lots of shiny FX. While stuff like this definitely happens, for the most part you are hacking and slashing and roll-dodging your way through enemies. As you progress further through the game, more items become available to you as to harder enemies, so fights like he shows become more and more frequent. But as fas as I have gotten, they haven't necessarily become common.

    I didn't even know you could get hp back after getting hit; Bloodborne isn't on PC and Dead Cells (a PC-only game) does not communicate this at all..

  • @afriendofafriend5766

    You don't need to play Dead Cells... yet, wait for its final release.

    • @luc8492
      @luc8492 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no you should definitely play it. It is so good that it doesn't even feel like early access. It only costs 17 dollars now so I bet when it finally releases the cost will go up to 40 or 60 dollars.

    • @bl0ndi550
      @bl0ndi550 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No dead cells is terrible right now, no combat depth just spam attack and abilities, the fact that you can see a little thing above their head before they attack just makes it even easier,
      And know it won't ever cost 60 dollars, it's an indie rouge like, a forgettable on at that.

    I'm not a fan of 2D games I love open world AAA games with good graphics and love the dark souls franchise. I was just wondering would I enjoy this game just because I like dark souls? Just curious to here someone else's thoughts.

    • @Paledraggon
      @Paledraggon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well it is dark souls only in the sense that it doesn't hold your hand and will stomp you unapologetically, and when it does you will have you only yourself to blame. It depends what is important to you as a gamer. If you like a challenge and good core gameplay, then yes. If you like randomly generated metroidvania style maps and trying different tactics with the different items you are able to find, then yes. If you are more graphically-minded it might not be your thing. It focuses more on conveying information with its graphics. Also some are not into the "one run" mechanic of roguelites such as this, since you lose all progress upon death (except any unlucks you get from Cells turned in).
      Personally I'd recommend this to any one, since I think good gameplay should be priority. However, this doesn't have the three things you say you like (AAA game, good graphics, open world) and is the one thing you mention you dislike (2D). I like dark souls games and dead cells for similar reasons, but that doesn't mean that you will. Consider what things you truly put the most value in when it comes to games.

    I know this sounds elitist but I beat the game on my third run with my first two dying to cursed chests. I thought that was it until I realized that I wasn't close! Once you beat the game you get a boss cell, this gives more available blue prints, some new enemies, more cells, and of course higher difficulties. But the thing is there isn't just one of these, there are 5. I'm still on my fourth one after hundreds of runs and I think its amazing. Although this made me assume that zero cell mode was more like a tutorial in disguise despite everyone else spending ages on it.

      Just because the developers don't feel that they're done with it and have decided to keep it in the Early Access category means nothing. If the game were to release in it's current form, you'd easily manage 40+ hours of content playing it. I've gotten over 100, personally.

    • @OldyAlbert
      @OldyAlbert 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would, and then never play it again. I play games once, so i wait while they at it's best form. And dev say it's currently not - then it's not
