One great plus of this engine is that it's somewhat cold, compared to Mercedes V8's. M276 is far less exposed to overheating or scratches in the cylinders (has nikasil plating), compared to M278 or M157 (4.7bt and 5.5bt). I had GLE400 with a tune up to 420hp. Engine was fine in any temperature outside (from -25c to +31c). And later I had GLE500 with m278, that got scratches in cylinders after 3 months.
it's nikasil plated? or coated? i'm not really up to date with modern euro engine design but most nikasil applications i've read about have been a coating, not a plating. genuine question sorry if it's a stupid one.

Honestly, an improvement. I have a bmw like this and I can check the oil any time I want to from inside the car, on the move. You honestly don't need a dipstick.
@@jw6188Until the sensors fail and you don’t know. Which ive had happen to me on my E60. For those of you interested the GLC43 has 4WD 4WS and if you open up the valves on the exhaust (a button on the centre console but not needed here as it iis in Sport+ which does that anyway) it makes an even more fantastic sound - it is both the best and worst car I've owned. The ride on British roads is terrible, the seats are not that comfortable for me in any position and I'm a relatively average 55 yr old. The tyres are huge wide run flats and in tight manoeuvres the front tyres hop or skip at full lock and you feel like they are coming off the rim. The stop/start function is hopelessly inconsistent, the car sometimes nudges forward when you don't want it to on restart. Turn it off before setting off. The brakes are incredible, the thirst is problematic 27.ish if you drive carefully - The A pillar is huge, You have four ways of accessing the tech - touch screen, mouse thingy, haptic on steering wheel and 'Hey Mercedes' which sort of works. Buuuut you buy it for the engine. And what an engine. Mine is blue with the carbon trim seen here which is a must, red stitching and red seats belts. I won't be keeping it but glad I had it for a while whilst managing so far to keep y licence.
I now have a very lazy GLS 400D - and it is even betterer as a car that can do everything - screens in the back and all that but I miss the exhaust note - if you have a GLC and you have not tried the manual shifty paddle thingy you are seriously missing out - holding the revs at a decent throttle in 3rd and 4th is a delight you won't forget in a hurry - its up there with the TVR Cerbera Speed six for sensation vs drama vs "Yes Officer, I do know why you stopped me, but you have to agree it did sound good didn't it?" which happened to me in the TVR and the reason I sold the GLC before it did so again.
The Chinese have an identical car, his air suspension at slow speed is not very comfortable, if the road is uneven and you feel his wheels are going to fall out, at high speed his hardness is not so hard, like an old man, it is not hard when it should be hard, it is not soft when it should be soft. In the SUV model, the power of its engine is indeed very excellent, but its nine-speed gearbox is really frustrated when it is slow or congested. The seat design can learn from the E-Class sedan. I am very glad that I can have a handsome car, and I may not choose GLC43 at the same price
@@zhf115 I agree about the gearbox - in traffic it can be jerky especially so when coming to a stop it changes into 1st just when you think it you have been smooth stopping - buuuut when you are going faster and use manual it is a different story becuase you can explore the entire rev range and that engine sings - - however by the time you reach third you will be over the speed limit!!!!
I'm positively surprised, I'd expect a 4-cylinder motor in an MB with '43' badge. (even though around 20 years ago it could have had an 8-cylinder engine under the bonnet, with that kind of badging)
no, thats not what the intention of the badging is. the intention is that this is the baseline AMG version of the GLC which is "43" the next model is more sporty so its called the "53" and the highest tier would have the number "63"
I actually almost went for one of those truth be told. It’s everything you can ask for. 330HP, twin turbo that you can modify, loaded with features, and you can drive it everyday no problem. The only thing that really stopped me, was the price. At the time I was shopping, they were still selling for mid $20,000 even touching $30,000 almost. The same price I was able to buy my E63. Granted, I have the money & capability to upkeep it. But if someone doesn’t want to do that, the C400 is an excellent car. Still plenty powerful from when I driven one.
I don't love the styling of the GLC. Or, the name. I wish it were still called the GLK. But, I love the performance of the 43 AMG. How much do you think it resembles a Macan in performance?
i like the name glc, bc it is a c-class in the GL lineup = GLC. So it makes sense. A Macan is obviously a better performer and it does look better in my opionion.
Does this car makes the noise all the time?? I wanted to buy but the noise it is really disturbing for me because I suffer from Migrane. Please someone let me know. Thanks
