Good progress on Gowerton, your layout has come far since its beginnings, that hillside fits really well 👌🏻 lovely shrubbery work 👍🏻. Please don't change it too much! It's great to see a layout with realistic scenery and a decent roster of sensibly-weathered locos and liveries from one era, as opposed to the sort where every loco that's ever been appears, shiny and new, in the same square metre and at the same time.
You say you're a relative newcomer to the hobby. If that's the case, you're a quick learner. A very impressive layout. I particularly like the sweeping curves in the main line rather than them being straight.
Enjoyed that Marcus! The new hillside and all that greenery is looking spot on. Love it! Keep them coming and I might even see if I can get down to the show. Tim.
Hi Marcus. The best way to deal with the diagonal truss braces is to do a shut and cut. By that I mean fix a similar section piece above (or below) the section you want to remove. The wood should be screwed not nailed, and overlap at least three trusses. Once fixed you can then cut out the part that goes through your back scene area. If in doubt ask a chippy or builder who works on new builds.
I am liking the development on the layout Marc. That Virgin HST looks great and adds uniqueness to the model railway in my opinion :). All the best Ash.
Transport & Simulation Hub Thanks Ash , it was something I was keen to have a go at . The acquisition of the spare power car allowed me to have a crack without worrying too much if it went wrong !
Marcus, I like the 58's. Some good ideas there. I bit of filler will hide the carpenter and would be much more pleasing to your eye. An idea only not, criticism as I have not done any woodwork since I left school, 50 years ago. You are doing great.
Hi Marcus, loving the new loco holding area. It will look great with the usual clutter bits and a small building. You’re cutting looks spot on in my opinion. Looks very realistic and natural. Brilliant update and lovely running session Marcus, HST’s look great, I’m a big fan of dvt’s in various guises and my favourite I’ve got is a virgin cross country version , keep up the good work mate and look forward to seeing more in the future, cheers Dazza

Wow your video just popped up on my recommendation list. Glad it did love your layout. I know you want to change it but i personally like your retaining wall. Maybe a flat surface and then a mini seen going on. Just an idea
Great update, just a thought a piece of hardboard 12 inches pined on top of the rafters and painted the same as the side back scene would hide hide rafters. cheers John.
John Carvil Hi John , interestingly , I did try that , but it completely closed up the feel of the layout , it had a really strange effect and made it feel small . I don’t really know why though !

Nice update mate ! Keep it up and I never thought you would get blue backscenes. Thought you like proper ones, from when you saw Guernsey beach . Well I think it looks great !
The problem with photographic back scenes in the loft is working around those rafters , it’s almost impossible to mount a back scene , so the plain blue works . It gives me a nice bit of height that I couldn’t previously achieve .
Big job but it may be worth you painting the entire ceiling! That's what I intend to do in my loft as I do find the plain sky blue backscenes add so much more to a layout than the photo-realistic ones. They're great for photography but (imo) for just sitting back and watching the trains go by you just can't beat the plain blue as it makes the layout itself 'pop.' I find the photo scenes distract from the layout and you just don't get the depth or illusion of distance from them. Plain sky blue with a few clouds sponged on to the higher bits and just a few trees lower down is the way to go for me! Layout is looking great and that embankment (looking at the one outside my window) is spot on! Mike.
Definitely won’t be painting all the roof . It would all need boarding up , and itd be pretty tricky and time consuming to do now . I agree with you though . The blue has worked well to provide a nice clean background.

Thanks David - I don’t experience any issues in playback. Have asked a few others and they haven’t had problems. It’s all been edited and published correctly. Might be worth checking your internet connection.
Hey there great update its coming on great now can I come to yours and play trains all day lol I wish mine was like this as for the hot wire am getting mine tomorrow when its pay day lol can you not make your own scenery like I've done bought a blender and made my own stuff cost at first but I make my own can i ask you you to take a pic of a loco next to the fence i want to see how high it looks?? Looks great, especially the new cutting which is excellent scenically. Great period to model ! I’d also like a 37055, but like you dont think it’s worth £170
I don’t think any Bachmann 37 is worth that kind of money . It’s worth remembering that the tooling for that model is now ageing . You can get freshly tooled models for much less now.
Found the video interesting as I am about to remove a bus station and re build it in to a TMD. I have all the bits just havnt had time to start yet. Ive posted a couple of videos, not good quality, of my layout in a 20 foot shipping container but no one viewed them probably because they couldnt find them. If your interested to have a look search Bridgwater sidings. Theres no e in bridgwater.

Great layout mate , great video too. I must say though i personally think the HST in the virgin livery is probably the worse livery it has been in lol EWS maroon with creme is very close behind that too . It is weird how liveries can cause such a debate but always good to have :-)
Haha , interesting you should say that . I love both of those liveries . If you want the worst livery a HST has been in , for me it’d be a Cotswold Rail one !

Your grass looks real. It's never just one uniform 'idealised' shade of green, but dynamic, in this case, like it hasn't rained for a while.

It’s a mixture of brands - WWS , Green Scenes , and Woodland Scenics. These have been done with a peco applicator .

Gowerton Parkway , well it looks great I’m a fan of blue back scenes as you know from Steve’s ! 😂

Great video and love the layout but may I ask how do you for the wire couplings on to the locos like on the mainline 37
It’s literally a piece of 0.7mm wire bent to shape , placed into holes drilled into the bufferbeam

Dcc upgrade is easy . Any 8 pin chip will work fine with these .
