      @@christopherkidwell9817let’s remove some of your fingers then. Ignorance leading to cruelty is horrifying. They literally remove the cat’s thumb, and it’s very stressful for them to totally lose their claws. A ton of places are starting to outlaw it as animal cruelty because they take off the knuckles as the claws are fused to it on top of amputating the thumb entirely. It has a huge host of physical complications. This isn’t a “oh it’s just an opinion” situation.

    She gets up on the bathroom counter and raises hell until you come tend to her. Girl does not like cleaning clingers off herself and she has learned that being shaved means no poo butt, so she makes sure you know when she's not happy about the state of her rear end.

      I've only had 2 declawed cats... one was a stray... and the other was from a friend. I'm not sure how my friend's cat became decalwed.
      The first cat, Shadow... was a nice loving, affectionate cat that was extremely domineering, pissed on the floor when he was pissed, and had an eating disorder which caused him to vomit up his food quite frequently. I think it was the combination of the pissing and the vomiting which caused his "owners" to abandon him in the country side. Oh! And a part of his domineering side also involved dropping breakable things (glass, porcelain etc.) on our heads when we decided to sleep in past his "wake up" time.
      My friend's cat on the other hand... she's such a laid back cat. She sleeps all day so she has the energy to sleep all night. Unfortunately, she has started to rapidly lose weight and the cause is so far unknown.. it might be she's just not eating enough though.

    This has nothing to do with this video, but I just wanted to thank you for all the little tidbits of information you teach us about cats and dogs in your videos. I learned from one of your videos that panting for cats can be really dangerous and was able to recognize that as an emergency when my cat started panting and rushed him to the vet last Thursday. Unfortunately, he didn’t make it. He had an autoimmune disease/cancer (we never got the chance to confirm either) and he had been deteriorating for several days. But by recognizing the panting as a bad sign, I was able to get him to the vet and euthanize him, rather than him dying of suffocation in the middle of the night. I was able to end his pain and he knew nothing but love in the end. I was able to be by his side as he passed and I will forever be grateful to you for the valuable information you provide, otherwise that might not have been the case. Thank you so much for all you do. ❤💜

    I rescued and re-homed over 20 cats (and over 80 dogs); I discovered that every single one of them could learn tricks. I experimented with my own 6 cats--yep, they all learned tricks just as easily as dogs did. I experimented with many of my partner-in-crime's cats and fosters, who ran the cat side of the rescue program and the same thing: they all learned tricks easily. I don't think I ever met a Turkish Van. Most of the cats I've dealt with were domestic shorthairs of unknown breeding. I have no idea why people think cats can't learn because they're just as easy to teach as dogs albeit a little different to teach.

      I taught our cat Oliver to sit and wait for the food to be put in his bowl (definitely a trick, because as soon as he saw the food bag come out he'd stick his head in his dish). I also taught him to high five, to jump on my shoulder (his favourite riding place), and to wind in and out of my legs as I walked. He already came when he was called.

      @@parkerbrown-nesbit1747 Oliver sounds cute as a button! I started teaching the foster cats tricks because there's nothing like a cat that knows a few tricks to really stand out in ads (this started before the internet became a common thing). People just couldn't resist calling to ask about a cat that could retrieve or play soccer or salute the queen or what have you. I also taught them behaviours that made them easier to groom and made common veterinary treatment easier, in order to make the cat's life easier.

    Shame on the vet who declawed Enzo!! I remember 40 years ago a vet would do a declaw but I thought most vets stopped doing it? My first cat I had declawed because I was young (20 y.o.) and STUPID!! Never had it done again with any other cats I owned. Plus the vets I dealt with years later would not do it!! They said it was cruel!

    • @ntate123
      @ntate123 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +10

      Declawing isn't as evil as people say. Cats claws exist in order to engage in offensive and defensive behaviors, which to be completely honest isn't required in a domestic household. The removal of their foremost knuckle similarly does not equate to our hands, as cats don't GRAB AND HOLD THINGS OR USE THEIR INDIVIDUAL TOES FOR COMPLEX TASK. They run, jump, and stretch just the same without them. Also, declawed cats will still rub their nubs against scratching posts and other things for the same biological habits they would have before the declawing. Many studies have been performed on the behavior of cats before and after declawing and there is no evidence that personality change is likely to result from it.
      In all honestly, outlawing declawing would be detrimental as there may be behavioral conditions with aggressive cats where declawing is the last preventative measure to euthanasia, and making it illegal would sentence many rescues to death if their people skills don't develop quickly enough. The fact is, the biggest risks and complication to declawing is the surgery itself, as anesthesia has it's risks for any living being and cats are very much sore and in pain after the procedure.
      I'm no saying that declawing should be a standard option for any cat owner, since lets be real there are many proven contingencies to cats tearing up furniture, but if it does occur it is not cruelty as the quality of the cat's life, its behavioral and stress relieving habits, it's health, and personality are not affected in any provable way. The main exception to this would be cats that are working cats like barn cats or cats that have free outdoor time, as the ability to defend themselves would be vital.
      Now excuse me as I prepare for the blowback to this comment.

    • @BlueSkyBirdies
      @BlueSkyBirdies 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +20

      @ntate123 I've heard it causes pain in the toes while walking for the rest of their life. Can you please confirm if any of the research you mentioned addresses this?

    • @ntate123
      @ntate123 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

      @@BlueSkyBirdies I'll answer to the best of my abilities. If declawing is done late in a cat's life, they are more likely to have issues with their gait and stride, as well as general movement as you have affected their paws long after they've adjusted to the way they expect their body to move. As a preventative measure, if you know you're going to do it do it to cats at their minimum age for it if you got a kitten (again there are other options, I'm just stating the facts).
      In regards to pain, it's very difficult to measure. Cats are extremely private creatures, and are especially so when in distress. Humans when losing a limb commonly experience Phantom Pain Syndrome, where the brain expects the missing body part to be there, and can feel sensation and even chronic pain in a limb that no longer exists. A good vet performing the procedure would do as little damage to the nerves as possible, if any, allowing a cat to heal in its best condition and minimize any long-term complications. As I said in my first post, the most controversial part of declawing in terms of risk is not the result, but the process. The surgery is and will always be the deciding factor on whether it turns out well.
      Studies have been done in regards to see if cats feel pain even though there is no injury after declawing, and there is evidence to suggest that some do in fact have soreness. It's really difficult to say in a concrete manner because they simply lack the ability to communicate what we want to know in this case. The older a cat is, I would say the less declawing should be considered. Animals adapt to far more harrowing injuries, we've all seen limbless animals and other such disabilities, but if you can minimize the side-effects with proper decision making we should.
      I hope this helped. I'm not advocating for the procedure as a "correct" option for any cat owner, just trying to fight the stigma of cruelty.

    • @fleurtherabbit
      @fleurtherabbit 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +36

      @@ntate123 It's not about holding stuff, removing claws changes the way a cat's feet meet the ground and the way his whole body moves. This is a statement from an veterinarian: The physical effect of declawing is gradual weakening of the muscles of the legs, shoulders, and back. - He cannot walk normally but must forever after move with his weight back on the rear of his pads.'' They also won’t be able to just run or jump like you said, because not only do its muscles work different now, it also lost part of its grip. And of course emotionally, it very much affects the cat. Don’t you think the animal is aware it has lost part of its defence mechanism? It has been proven that many of those cats become tense and nervous.

    I know most kitties just refuse to eat treats when stressed. But this might help those that hesitate about the tube itself.

      They're common in environments with distinct selection pressures on domesticated animals, but no selective breeding by the humans. Islanders didn't breed for seaweed-eating sheep, but the trait helped the sheep survive on the tiny, rocky islands where humans had brought them. I've heard them called a landrace (although that might be just a sheep thing, I was learning to spin at the time.)
