  • HI Guys. I was recently contacted by Phoibos Watch Company who had seen I have done a few watch reviews and asked if I would like to take a look at their new watch. When they sent me a photo of the Eagle Ray series I knew I would have to see this in person! Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

    Agree on the buckle decoration, was also thinking how cool it would look with the same caseback decoration but the octopus on a display plate glass etched maybe as an option or an extra so you have your daily wearer caseback all exhibition and when you want to go 200m diving... just put on the solid steel one.

    Nice to see you doing reviews. I'm another Phoibos phan (see what I did there), and this one is another hit for them I'd say. I'd really emphasis that these watches by Phoibos, the Wavemaster I have at least, wear superbly well even though they are rather large and not light weight. They do an exceptional job of balancing the watch so that over the course of a day as you wear it, you don't notice it. Just wears like a smaller watch. A lot of thought goes into these watches, for sure. Your criticism of the hands are spot on. But I have to hand it to them, the spot of red on the end of the second hand is brilliant on this watch. It's just the kind of detail that Phoibos excels at, and at a price point that puts them ahead of most others for value.

    • @MyRetroWatches
      @MyRetroWatches  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your comment, I’m glad my review seems well received as I did worry.
      This is a great watch and yes detail has been thought about whilst keeping production costs low.
      I will be swapping to some sword hands in a few days just to see how it changes it.
      I will post up on Instagram and maybe the community here.

    Great review. I think you picked the most stand-out and eye catching colour. I think it is a very good looking watch. Agree on the clasp, lose the name, which somehow looks naff, and stick a raised up octopus there. Might even get more people asking what it is rather than just the name. Case back is really attractive. This small company have done a superb job.

  • @AstonColey
    @AstonColey 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for the review Mike. I like the watch too and with the orange sun burst, unusual it is. Like you not keen on the hands length and syringe style, would look better with sword style hands. Please if Phoibos sees this review take Mike's advice and put the octopus on the clasp and remove the Phoibos lettering it definitely spoils the bracelet. Do I want one in my collection yes, it has quality for a under $400 watch and with the Seiko NH35 calibre accuracy makes it desirable against watches in a similar price band.

    i'd love to see more thinner watches with Miyota 9015. in terms of balance on the wrist it's a massive point for this movement. even with a light strap/bracelet it doesn't feel heavy headed.

    • @MyRetroWatches
      @MyRetroWatches  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I might bring another watch in for review. I’m not that taken with it but it does have the 9015 in it. My plan was to review the watch and then in a second video strip and service the movement just to have a closer look at a Miyota. Good idea? Still not sure to run with this idea or not.

    Am struggling with a 7009 at mo, the whole pawl lever thing is just worn out, the watch itself performs superbly but all the energy from the rotor craps out on the floppy driving wheel so the levers don't oscillate :( Got a beautiful gold Lucerne but the stem release stud won't release and the only thing wrong with it is the second hand impacts the minute hand so trying to find out why the stem release won't let go.

    • @MyRetroWatches

      18,000 is classic Seiko, durable and reliable but not that exciting. repair videos are my main focus don't worry. Just a few reviews here and there if I get offered stuff. What I want is some of the Chinese ETA clone movements where I can disassemble and we can all watch to see how well or not they are made. This is an idea I have so I would be interested to see if any of you are interested in seeing some content like this .

      I love my Seikos as it where I cut my teeth into this hobby. I have 100s of them but now also many other brands. Just look at my recent videos as you will see many Swiss vintage being done.
      I also have a big collection of digital. I kinda go through phases. I never used to like bezel watches and now I have quite a few.
      Problem with Seiko is now the ones I used to buy are x3 the price. Perhaps because I’ve driven the market up!😂
