I would've just secreted the STC somewhere secret and far, so maybe we DON'T destroy our bodies and those of all future generations in the process, lol.
@GrimDarkNarrator doesn't work logistically & exposes the secret to everyone... that's why the STC was relocated from Junker Town to Hive Primus as Van Saar was elevated into a Clan House allied directly to the Imperial Governor. The STC has to be at the center of their power base since that's where those who know about & can operate it are... they need access to it & moving it somewhere else means that they would need to go there to access it which would leave them to having their movement tracked. Also if only some of them got the cancer instead of all of them then that would create a noticeable delineation point from which the location could be deduced. The secret already occasionally gets out from third & fourth order information... moving the STC away would expose first & second order information which means it would quickly become common knowledge to everyone (the Imperial House wouldn't be able to help hide the secret anymore cause that information would get off planet at that point & bring the Imperium in.)
As for what I like and don't like about them: I don't like the gang's reliance on technology, mainly because it kinda pulls a David vs Goliath situation on the game table (I tend to play cultists or Cawdor). I do like that the lore actually gives them drawbacks for that reliance though.

In the source book I see them referred to as clan houses.
