I must admit, I like unagi onigiri best.. But ebikko mayo is good, too. The local Aeon has a good choice, but I wish they'd sell natto onigiri... By the way, what is the difference between onigiri and musubi? Maybe musubi is home-made?
What i miss when i go back to Malaysia is, the convenience store and the vending machines.. We spent a lot of money when enter the store and always stop at vending machines to buy something (drinks and toys for my daughter).. Much money spent by us, but that's what we miss about Osaka and Japan

I tried natto for the first time when I was in Japan, if you can get pass the sliminess of it, it's not that bad. The smell is not that bad also... I've tried strong smelling cheese before, compare to that natto is actually considered quite mild.
LOL🤣, I guess I need to try the smelling cheese then😁haha Natto smells not that bad when it is rally fresh from the container, but if you leave it there for a while, you can have surprise😅 I always wash the container right after I eat Natto..🤣

About 3-4 years ago some onigiri restaurants opened here (in Kuala Lumpur). There were two near where I lived. They would make the onigiri fresh, and had unusual stuff like natto. They only lasted a few months to a year, though. This was before Family Mart started opening shops. Before that (a LONG time before that) you could get onigiri from the food court at the local Jusco store but it was basic stuff like ebikko mayo and salted salmon. These days all the convenience store chains (7-11, MyNews, Family Mart) all sell onigiri, and so does Aeon (used to be Jusco).
We have shops that sell onigiri here but in Hawaii we usually call it musubi! But there is a shop from Japan called "Ookini Onigiri" here!Hope you are ok after the typhoon!

Hi rion! I've bought onigiri before when i visited Japan. I think my favourite had meat in it, there was 唐揚げ inside if I remember correctly lol. But it was always cold and i always microwave my onigiri at the hostel before eating it. Butttt I've realised no one actually do that? I'm Chinese and we like our rice hot! I was so shocked when I bought a bento in the shinkansen and it was totally cold. I guess that's a cultural difference. :D

Maybe if you pick 唐揚げ(Karaage), it's better too microwave it, but if you pick Tuan mayonnaise, Shrimp Mayonnaise, or something with mayonnaise, it's better with cold one😉 (just like Sushi!) Yes, Shinkansen Bento,,,😂 It's cold, to be honest, I like the hot Bento better, but many Japanese people say the cold one is good too😁 Anyway, next just try to pick something with mayo, and try it without microwaving you will love that😁😁!

I like natto, but kimchi not so much. The Family Mart here (in Malaysia) has localized onigiri, for instance "hot anchovy sambal" onigiri. I suppose it's a good thing they haven't thought of making durian onigiri yet. What is rayu? Not garlic?
