Dhordo is a small Village/hamlet in Bhuj Taluka in Kutch District of Gujarat State, India. It falls under Gorewali Panchayath. It is located 1 KM towards North from District head quarters Bhuj. 356 KM from State capital Gandhinagar. Every year in the winter months, a Tent City is created near Dhordo village called Rann Utsav.There used to be a village called 'Dhordo' where local villagers were struggling to find enough work to sustain their lives and what can you expect in the area which is either drawn under water during monsoon and rest of the time its covered under white salt! No scope for any agriculture or animal husbandry, but the same eco-system not conducive for any other activity boosted tourism like anything.
Gujarat Tourism is one of the aggressive tourism promotion body, trying to promote inbound tourist flow to Gujarat, and thanks to then CM Sri. Narendra Modi's vision, once the most dull and deserted place called Dhordo White Rann has been transformed into one of the most happening tourist destination of Gujarat. Idea of having tourist in this part of world looks very ambitious and difficult to believer in the first place but we must appreciate the vision and execution of Gujarat Government to turn this around in truly global and vibrant fashion. This annual affair has become the main driver for tourism in Gujarat and proved to be a model for many more such events across Gujarat and other parts of India.
Kutch is cultural district of Gujarat which is famous for its Culture. The music which is influenced by Sufi & Folk songs, Instruments like- Bhorrindo, Manjira , Morchay, Jodia Pava & Rava. The language spoken in Kutch is Kutchi language. Various handicraft items – Garments Embroidery, Handwall painting, Jewellery items, Wood Carving, Wall Paintings, & many more . Kutch district is inhabited by various groups and communities. Many of these have reached this region after centuries of migration from neighbouring regions of Marwar(Western Rajasthan), Sindh, Afghanistan and further.
Food & Drink
The majority of the population is vegetarian. Jains, brahmins and some other caste practice strict vegetarianism. Jains also refrain from eating kandmool food grown below the ground such as potatoes, garlic, onion, and yam.
Tea
Tea is the most popular drink in this region and is enjoyed irrespective of sex, caste, religion or social status. Tea stalls where groups of people chat over tea are invariable sights of every village or town entrance from early morning to late evening.
Handicrafts
Kutch is the place which is famous for its various handicraft items – Garments Embroidery , Handwall painting , Jewellery items , Wood Carving , Wall Paintings & more views...

The Style
Currently, KALA RAKSHA works with six distinct Hand Embroidery style . the Sindh-Kutch regional styles of suf, khaarek, and paako, and the ethnic styles of Rabari, Garasia Jat, and Mutava.
Suf
Suf is a painstaking embroidery based on the triangle, called a "suf." Suf is counted on the warp and weft of the cloth in a surface satin stitch worked from the back.
Khaarek
Khaarek is a geometric style also counted and precise. In this style, the artisan works out the structure of geometric patterns with an outline of black squares, then fills in the spaces with bands of satin stitching that are worked along warp and weft from the front.
Paako
Paako literally solid, is a tight square chain and double buttonhole stitch embroidery, often with black slanted satin stitch outlining.
This is an excellent one. Special thanks for identifying the local Kutch singer and promoting him. Using his rendition as BGM is very creative and meaningful. I remember suggesting this in my comment for the last episode (about using live sounds and apt BGM) and I am glad that you seemed to have really considered it. Nice vlog, it was very educational. So warming to note that Modi ji, as CM of Gujarat, converted many places into tourism opportunities, that now generate revenue for the state. As the PM too his contribution is immense & it is superb to find such awesome highways connecting states have been constructed.
